Chap. 4~
Still With You~On the fields~
“Ok, first things first.” Nichkhun handed Chansung a hat, a pair of gloves, a pair of hedge clippers and a sheathed sickle. “These are yours to keep, ok? Now let’s go!” Nichkhun lead the way to the grassy meadow that had other residents working in small sections.
“This meadow doesn’t really belong to anyone, so the residents of the village take care of it. And instead of taking turns to cut the whole field, it was divided so each resident has an equal amount to tend to.”
Chansung just nodded his head as Nichkhun continued. “When you cut a decent amount of grass, just bundle it up and carry it to that storage unit. The stored grass pretty much just ends up as food for the residents that own farms and ranches. There’s no set time for lunch breaks and don’t fall asleep on the job! Questions?”
“Nope, I think I pretty much got it.”
“Alright let’s get to work.”
~In the City~
Junsu stepped off of the bus and started running towards the exit. “, I’m going to be late again, they’re going to fire me for sure.” He told himself as he pushed pass the people on the streets.
In a matter of minutes Junsu made it to the small convenient store. “I’m so sorry I’m late!” he called out as he passed the front counter, the young lady barely paying attention.
Junsu threw his things into his locker and slipped on his apron before returning to the front. “Sorry Yenny, the bus came late and then…” the young lady stood up and tapped his nose to shush Junsu. “Just move so I can go. I don’t need to know your reasons for being late again.” She teased with a friendly annoyed tone.
Junsu chuckled softly as he passed her taking her position behind the counter. “You’re lucky that the boss is off today, otherwise you’d be fired in a split of a second.” The young lady named Yenny informed him.
“Not to mention, I did you a favor and clocked you in before you actually got here. So you owe me one big time Junsu!” she smiled a sweet smile at him. Junsu returned the smile after releasing a heavy sigh of relief. “I don’t know how to thank you enough Yenny. I’ll take you out to lunch one of these days.”
“Nah, that’s a bit much.” She winked at him. “Just bring Junho and the kids in and we’ll call it even. I miss the little buggers. Anyways, I’ll see you later!” she smiled and pushed herself off the counter making her way to the employee room.
Minutes felt like hours to Junsu, he helped whom ever came in, restocked shelves, swept the floor, he did everything he could possibly think of, and it’s only been 2 hours. He let out a frustrated grunt as he watched people pass by outside.
Junsu placed his chin on the table and just stared off into space. “Booorrriiinnnggg…” he said in a sing song like voice. Another 15 minutes and he was up trying to find something to organize, or clean, anything.
Just then the bells in front rang and Junsu nearly skipped to the front, “Welcome! ~” he greeted with a smile, but once he saw who it was his smile faded and let out and annoyed sigh.
“What’s the matter? You don’t look to happy to see me.” The man at the front questioned the other. Junsu just walked pass the other and took his place behind the counter. “If you’re not going to buy anything then leave.”
The man just rested his arms on the counter and smirked at the frowning Junsu. “Have you considered my offer?” The man asked leaning forward nearly inches away from Junsu’s face.
Annoyed, Junsu abruptly stood up. “How many times do I have to tell you? Go away and leave me alone!” he shouted as he pushed the other away, and was pretty lucky that the place was empty otherwise he’d probably get fired. “Why can’t you take a hint? If I didn’t want your help last time, what makes you think I want it now?!”
“Heh, no matter how many summers I come up here, you still stay as feisty as ever.” The man smirked again.
That smirked pissed Junsu off that he grunted with disgust at the comment as he turned away but the man grabbed his wrist quickly turned and pulled him slightly over the counter, leaning over he whispered in his ear. “Reconsider my offer, I promise I'll make all your stress go away.”
Junsu pulled his arm away and slapped the other across the face. “You're part of my stress, so why don't you go away?!” he yelled. This time the man just smirked and walked out.
~On the grass fields~
Chansung and Nichkhun’s work were nearly finished when someone called out to all the workers on the fields. “Hey everyone let’s all take a break!”
Chansung tied off his latest bundle of grass and dragged it over to where Nichkhun was sitting.
“This is hard work.” Chansung let out a heavy sigh after he chugged down the bottle of water Nichkhun handed him. "You do this for a living?” he asked.
“For a living? No, just volunteer work.” Nichkhun pointed over his shoulder to the group of elders. “As you can see, there are a lot of elderly people in this village. Hardly any of them have any relatives that live in the country side, so I do what I can to help relieve the work stress from them.”
“That’s nice of you Nichkhun; you must be well liked by the elderly.” Chansung praised the other making him blush in embarrassment. “Ah shucks, Chansung. You’re making me blush!” he playfully punched his arm.
“Can I ask you something?” Nichkhun asked Chansung who was now lying on his bundle of grass. “Sure… go ahe
