You Make it More Beautiful
The Howling - Part IV: Inevitable
There was no hiding the smiles on either of their faces, but Joonmyun couldn't help but giggle at Jongin's attempt. Before sitting down, the elder paused and placed two fingers under the boy's chin, lifting his head so he could see him properly, so that he could see that beautiful smile. That was what he wanted; that was the exact smile he'd asked for, one that was true and genuine and so far from forced that it could only be real.
"I didn't do this on my own," Joonmyun admitted as he finally pulled away and took a seat in the chair that had been pulled out for him; he glanced up at Jongin and gave him a sheepish grin. "We're probably going to owe a lot to Sunny and the boys for a while." Though, he doubted it, because no one had asked for anything in return, and they'd gone out of their way to give him something extravagant when he'd only asked for something simple. Joonmyun might not have owed them anything, but he was grateful to them nonetheless.
While waiting for Jongin to take his seat, Joonmyun's curiosity took over and he couldn't help but wonder what Sunny had made them. The moment he lifted the lid off his plate, the overwhelming aroma of garlic and chicken filled his nose and made his mouth water. He knew what it was before he even saw: garlic chicken alfredo, with extra chicken.
"She never fails to impress," he chuckled, setting the lid off to the side before moving to pour out glasses of what looked like another batch of lemonade iced tea for both him and Jongin. Just moments after he settled back in his chair, the faint sound of a piano faded its way into the background. Joonmyun sat there for a long moment, confused, before a smile and a soft blush broke out on his face; he wasn't sure, though, wether to be annoyed, amused, or grateful towards the antics of the ones who had set this up, but for now he'd just be happy to have the evening for himself and Jongin.
For just a moment Jongin was overwhelmed, not just by how much effort everyone had gone to for them, but by Joonmyun's attempts at something so sweet and romantic. His smile grew, and as the elder sat down he took a moment to walk the circumference of the clearing, fingers brushing over the little lights twinkling amidst the flowers and hedges, before he lifted his head up to gaze at the almost full moon. On any other given day, he'd be curled up in bed preparing for three days of hell, but now, he didn't even care.
At the delicious scent of garlic and chicken Jongin's stomach growled and he turned back to the table before lowerin himself into the chair opposite Joonmyun's. "Oh my god; that smells amazing..." his voice was a lot more akin to a husky moan as he reached for the lid coverng his own plate, letting it sit beside the plate on the table as he breathed in deep before he grinned. "Oh, i think we're going to owe them for a long time; which means I won't be able to complain whenever she throws a spatula at me..."
He shifted a little in his chair, leaning forward as Joonmyun filled his glass with iced tea before he took the boy's hand and pressed a soft, affectionate kiss to his knuckles.
"Thank you, Joonmyun. For... for coming into my life when you did..."
When his hand was seized, Joonmyun stilled, watching Jongin with somewhat wide eyes as the boy kissed his knuckles. A very slight but oh-so fond smile graced his lips and he gave the other's hand a soft squeeze. "I'd like to think that we'd have found each other somehow," he replied in a quiet tone; somewhere inside him, something was constantly tugging at his chest, telling him that he and Jongin were meant to be together. "The universe just has a funny and sometimes cruel way of showing us things."
It was obvious that the universe had wanted to test their limits before they even knew that they'd end up together, pushing them closer and closer to that breaking point. They never broke though, only bended, and just when they thought they'd snap....
Things always have odd ways of working out, but Joonmyun wouldn't trade it -- this, Jongin, being with him -- for anything else in the world. For the first time in a long time they were happy, they had things they wanted, they had peace. No, that wasn't something to be traded away.
After a while, Joonmyun slid his hand from Jongin's grip and moved to pick up his fork so that he could take a bite of their dinner before it got cold. "You should eat," he told Jongin as he twirled noodles onto his fork. "You'll need what you can get..."
Jongin squeezed the fingers in return, brushing his thumb across Joonmyun's knuckles once more before he pulled back and straightened, feeling utterly embarrassed at his new found affectionate personality. The elder's words were a comfort that he clung to, letting them fill them until he was comfortable and warm and quite content where he as.
His eyes directed to his food as Joonmyun reminded him of it. Truthfully, he'd forgotten everything but Joonmyun's presence, and he flushed with embarrassment before reaching for his fork. He nodded slowly, spearing a piece of chicken and bringing it to his lips.
For just a moment afterwards, he was lost, drowning in the taste of the garlic and the creaminess of the sauce that coated both the chicken and the noodles. A soft sound left him, and soon enough he was eating happily, smile perking his lips and eyes brightening. After a few mouthfuls, he placed his fork down so he could reach for a glass and take a sip of the cool liquid.
As he drank, he lifted his gaze to watch Joonmyun, eyes dark with thought as he took in the way he smiled gently, the way his bangs fell just right across his forehead. Joonmyun was beautiful and all his.
Even with as good as the Italian based dish was -- andgoddammititwasamazing -- Joonmyun still couldn't take his mind off Jongin. In between bites, he found himself staring, admiring the boy seated across from him, enjoying the closeness and the ever-so slight intimacy that this date offered.
Joonmyun took large but measured bites, trying to sate his stomachs pleads for more food; his body was still trying to play catch-up after being deprived for so long. He still had a rather generous amount of food on his plate when he decided to be finished, deciding that he /really/ needed to talk to Sunny about his portions because he didn't have the stomach to be able to eat for three.
After placing his fork down and pushing his plate back from the edge, Joonmyun took his glass and sat back in his chair, continuing to admire Jongin as he sipped his tea. He wasn't sure how to continue from here, how to move on to what he wanted to ask without ruining anything. It bothered him now that he hadn't planned this part earlier, but there wasn't much he could do save for try to come up with something before Jongin finished.
Jongin returned to his pasta when he realized Joonmyun was looking at him, his cheeks staining pink as he tried to busy himself with the act of eating. He pursed his lips as he finished, his lips as a satisfied grin crossed his features. "Oh gosh, that was amazing..."
He sat back in his chair, sipping at his iced tea to wash down the garlic and creamy sauce, before he looked up at Joonmyun and pushed himself out of his chair. After pushing ti back into place, he shifted and dropped down onto the grass, stretching out on his back as he stared up at the almost full moon and the stars that stained the sky with flickering color.
"It's a beautiful night... cool enough for you, and cool enough that I don't feel warm..." he murmured, hands linked behind his head as his eyes fell on Joonmyun's upside down form. "And you make it even more beautiful."
