DO was coming out of the practice room when he heard faint crying. He followed the sound of the crying till he reached the stairwell. He opened the door to find Aileen’s face drenched in tears. He instantly ran to her and wrapped his arms around her.

DO noticed this wasn’t normal crying. This kind of crying was gut wrenching and heartbreaking. He couldn’t put his finger on what was wrong but he knew it was serious. Aileen couldn’t control herself. When she thought she fine she would start crying all over again. Did you lose her internship? If she did she wouldn’t be crying like this? Did someone say something racist to her? No it couldn’t be that because Aileen is a strong individual and she knows there is racism everywhere. Was it family related? He knew she was really close with her family.

“What’s wrong?” she was trying to control her crying but she couldn’t. She looked at DO’s caring and worried face and started crying harder, “Shh it’s ok, tell me,”

“It’s not ok. Something terrible happened,” as she was about to tell him she started thinking about it which started the tears again

DO’s heart dropped as he held her again. He cared but at the moment he just wanted to take the pain away from her. They had become close friends. They did a lot of things together and he was very protective of her. Her pain was his pain. Her joy was his joy for he loved her laugh and smile.

“Tell me when you’re ready,”

“It’s not real. This can’t be happening. I got a phone call from my Dad this morning. My Nana died. She was my Mom’s grandma and I know she was 97 but when you’re a kid you don’t think of your Nana dying. You think they will live forever. She was sleeping when she died but I didn’t chance to say goodbye,”

DO started to cry with her. He knew what it was like to lose a family member. It hurts you to your core and it seems like nothing will ever get better. He just held her.

They must have been in that stairwell for more than an hour because Suho and Kai came looking for them. Aileen was inconsolable at that point. The boys were distraught that their Noona and friend was hurting and they couldn’t do anything about it. Sora decided to drive her to the dorm so she could rest.

When DO was done with his schedule he went to her apartment to fix her dinner, which she didn’t eat and just to be there for her. He booked her plane ticket home and the next day he sent her home. That was all he could do for her.

The funeral was two days later and Aileen felt worst. But she was grateful to know her Nana had a lot of people that loved and adored her because the funeral was packed with family and old friends who told stories and to bid their farewells. Before she was placed in the ground the minister asked if there was anyone who had any more words to say.

“I do,” Aileen recognized that voice anywhere but couldn’t believe her ears

DO had come to the funeral. Aileen wasn’t even aware that they knew each other.

“Hi my name is DO and I had the honor to meet this wonderful lady,”

“You did?” Aileen mouthed to herself

“I was setting up Aileen’s Skype so she could talk to her Dad and her Nana was at the house. It was funny because it took her awhile to figure what was going on. She called me the little man in the box,” people laughed, “But I had the privileged to talk to this amazing woman as she told me how she raised Aileen and made her the young lady she is today. She thanked me for taking care of her angel while she was so far from home,” DO looked at Aileen, “She made me promise her to take care of her when she went to heaven and I made a promise to do just that. Rest in peace Mrs. Smith, you will be truly missed,” he kissed the casket as he stood next to Aileen and held her hand as new fresh tears spilled from Aileen’s face

The repast was at Nana’s house and many family members and friends gathering together to talk of the good old days. Aileen was on the porch with DO as it began to rain.

“It’s raining,” he walked behind her and gave her a back hug, “She loved the rain,” she was still crying, “Gosh I don’t think I’ll ever stop crying,” she turned to face him as he wiped her tears

“It’s ok to cry,” he hugged her

“I didn’t know you knew my Nana,”

“She told me not to tell,”

“She was so secretive sometimes. I miss her,”

“Me too but I’m going to keep my promise. I’m going to take care of you,”

“How did you get here? Don’t you have schedule? Aren’t you going to get into trouble?” she was worried

“I came right after I sent you off. I have a week off as well and no I won’t get into trouble. I don’t know when you’ll be back but when you came back, I’ll be waiting for you,” she smiled at him as he kissed her on the forehead and enveloped her in a hug

“Thanks for taking care of me Oppa,”
