After we finished our games we decided to go out and get some ice cream.

“This was fun,” I commented to Baekhyun as we ate out ice cream. He nodded as we all sat in a comfortable silence eating.

The store had a huge store window in which people could see people pass by. I stared out at a family walking by hand in hand. I smiled at the sight.

The little girl was walking between her mother and father. A giant smile was plastered on her face as a toy monkey clung to her neck. A family, a happy, functional family was such a beautiful sight to me.

I desired to have something like that one day. Nothing more, nothing less.

“Yah, Jaeri are you listening?” Baekhyun questioned me. I shook my head.

“Aniya, what were you saying?” I questioned. All the guys merely shook their heads.

“We were talking about who you wanted to walk you home.” He repeated. I shrugged and looked out of the window again.

“I can go alone. I really don’t mind.” I assured them. Luhan shook his head.

“What kind of friends would we be if we let you go home by yourself?” He questioned. I shrugged.

“Well whatever floats your boats.” I commented. He smiled at me and I took a look at the guys.

“I’ll take her.” Chanyeol spoke out. I couldn’t help but feel shocked at what he said.

Chanyeol taking me home? Why?

“Seriously?” Baekhyun questioned for me. He nodded.

“I mean it’s the least I could do. She did spend the day teaching me how to bowl.” He insisted. It made logical sense, but I didn’t feel like it made emotional sense.

“Well, I was going to offer, but since Chanyeol beat me to it maybe next time?” Luhan suggested. I nodded rapidly after he suggested it.

“Ookay…. Well I guess we should get going. Try not to kill each other.” Baekhyun suggested jokingly. Chanyeol and I nodded obediently. I hugged both Baekhyun and Luhan tightly before heading off with Chanyeol.

My affection with Baekhyun was normal, but I felt odd hugging Luhan. Maybe it was because I didn’t know him as well as the other two, or maybe it was something else?

We walked silently, barely even looking in each other’s direction.

“Thanks… “ Chanyeol muttered suddenly. I looked at him questionably.

“For what?” I wondered. He shrugged.

“You didn’t make fun of me today.” He answered. I smiled lightly at him.

“I know you bully me, but I don’t mind being the bigger person every now and then.” I replied. He laughed lightly. I couldn’t help but take note of his laughter. The gentle smile that was plastered on his face was lovely. I don’t know why I decided to take note of it now.

I mean I’ve seen Chanyeol smile plenty of times, but for some reason I found it much more endearing today.

“I don’t think you’re ever the bigger person, shorty.” He added, patting the top of my head. I glared up at him and moved his hand from the top of my head.

“Way to destroy a friendly moment.” I added. He merely smiled and shrugged.

“I’m sorry it was just too easy.” He pointed out. He was right, I did walk myself in to that one.

“So... how do you know Luhan?” I wondered, trying to bring up an interesting conversation. He put a finger up to his lips thoughtfully.

“Well, I met him in elementary school. He was one of my only friends through middle school. We were really close. Then, he had to go back to China. His parents got transferred back and well… the rest is history.” He explained.

Somehow I wasn’t satisfied with his story. It was simple and to the point, but it was obvious that their friendship was more than that.

“Chanyeol…” I spoke carefully. He glanced over at me curiously.

“Hmm?” he answered.

“Why… why did you change? I mean like I remember you used to be quiet and nerdy, no offence.” I told him. He shrugged and smiled at me thinly.

“I changed because it was time for change.” He answered simply. I glared at him.

“You’re a horrible conversationalist.” I scolded. Once again that earned a laugh from him.

“Sorry… I changed because I wanted to. I mean just like Baekhyun, I wanted to try something out just for the heck of it. Honestly, I’m not that different from the nerdy kid in middle school. I just look different.” He told me. I nodded. Soon we approached my house again. I noticed Chanyeol eyeing my house.

“Is no one home yet?” He questioned. I nodded nervously.

“Yeah… they work late and leave early.” I lied. He nodded understandingly.

“Seems lonely.” He commented.

You don’t know the half of it…. I thought.

“I guess.” I murmured heading towards the gate. “Thanks for walking me home and for being nice today. It was nice.” I told him. He shook his head understandingly.

“Don’t get used to it.” He teased. I rolled my eyes and opened the gate. “Yah shorty!” He yelled before I could actually walk towards my house.

“Hm?” I wondered. He spread his arms out.

“Since I was good today can I get a hug?” He questioned. I was shocked at his request.

“A hug?” I questioned. He nodded assuring me that is what he wanted. I hesitantly walked over in his direction and hugged him.

I expected a light hug. You know one of those hugs where your hands are hovering over each other and you barely make contact.

This was not that. He pulled me in tight, surprising me.

“Just so you know tomorrow we’ll go back to normal.” He informed me. I laughed and released his grip.

“I knew you’re kindness was too much to be true.” I told him. He put his hands out jokingly.

“What can I say? I don’t want to make change yet.” He told me, referring back to his previous conversation. I rolled my eyes and waved.

“Bye!” I yelled going towards the direction of my house.

“Bye!” He responded leaving.

Once again I don’t know why, but Chanyeol had succeeded in making me happy today.

It’s just temporary. I told myself. It’s just temporary.
