Feelings

If Fate Allows It

Every day I spend with Taeyeon, the more her charms reveal themselves. Her quirks and dorky personality all seem more than lovable to me now. I can’t help but smile when I’m around her. Like a big fool, I smile this giant, dumb smile that somehow is always plastered to my face in her presence. I always find myself laughing and smiling carelessly in her presence. Just as my feelings for Yuri gradually faded, my new found feelings for Taeyeon came gradually and unbeknown to me.

Maybe it was just a simple attraction. A crush on a best friend, one without all the unnecessary complexity. Every once in a while, she would make my heart flutter with her adorkable tendencies. Scratch that… it was quite often to be completely honest.

But then again...it could, no had to be more than that. I've never bonded with a woman on such an intimate level on so many different things of life. She knew me inside and out. My heart, the broken me, everything. To top it all, we write and compose music on occasion. She has experienced my raw emotions that only a select few have encountered briefly.

It scared me. Sometimes she just knew me way better than I knew myself. Oddly enough, it was a bit comforting but slightly stirring at the same time that she would know me that well. I don't think I've ever had anyone know me like that. Not even Narsha noona or ... Nichkhun hyung..

Little by little, Kim Taeyeon effortlessly hijacked my heart, gently piecing it back together slowly in the process. With my newfound anchor, I had a completely new perspective of the world. The way Taeyeon captured my heart was like the hook of an irresistibly catchy hit song. Without her, life as I know it would be like a song without a melody. Life would be plain and bleak like lyrics sang flatly without any emotion whatsoever.

Kim Taeyeon is the harmony of this song I call life in every aspect.

"Taeyeon-ah, let's take a break. We can finish this piece when we get back, arachi," I called to her from the soundboard. She was recording her angelic voice for the demo of another one of my amateur songs. Truth be told, it was a song I intended to gift to SNSD, depending on Taeyeon’s reaction to it. She nodded at me, giving me a weak smile as she slipped the headphones off her head. I got up and opened the door before she even reached for it. I found myself smiling unconsciously at her. Her hair was a little ruffled. I smooth her hair gently, my hands running to her silky locks of brown graciousness. I brushed a stray hair out of her face and gingerly tucked it behind her ear. I smiled shyly at her, turning my face away to hide the rosy hue accumulating on my cheeks.

"Oppa, what do you feel like eating?" she asked me ever so cutely. Her big brown puppy eyes were looking up at me hopefully. Gosh, I couldn't resist pinching her cheeks.

"Whatever Taeyeonieee wants to eat, oppa wants to eat," I said with an aegyo filled voice. Omo, what is this woman...no angel doing to me? Aegyo?! Dear God...

"Hmm, how about we go to samgyupsal~" She suggested cutely as she looked up at me eagerly. I nodded my head, smiling brightly and patting her head gently. I could see her eyes get brighter with excitement as we started to head out. Silly girl. I didn't know her eyes could get any brighter, especially when she already has sparkles in them. I offered my arm to her like it was second nature. She happily took my arm, linking hers with mine. She hugged my arm a bit and my heart raced a little. I stuffed my hands in my pockets, jingling my keys around to calm my nerves.

I opened the car door for her, like a gentleman. The car ride was filled with laughter and us trying to sing along to the pop songs playing on the radio. Tae tried to sing in an ahjumma voice, I couldn't contain myself. I pinched her cheek gently and playfully ruffled her hair.

"Yahhhh! Haraboji, keep your hands on the wheel!!" She yelled, almost in terror. I couldn't help but remember the first day we met. That day some years ago that I had some super natural confidence to offer her a ride. On my motorcycle. Hehe. Looking back, I wouldn't be able to predict my life turn out like this. If you asked my younger self, I'd probably envision Yuri and I possibly engaged or going public with our relationship. Oh the woes of life, how they pull us here and there, but somehow we end up right where we should be.

"AISHHH~ This ahjumma," I said jokingly. She have me a cold glare, it's a good thing I'm used to the ice princess' stares. "Nice try Tae, but you're not the ice princess. You're my adorable and squishable Taetae~"

Did that really slip my tongue. Oh geez. Wait, is that blush on her cheeks? Hold up... What? Wow, Kim _________ stop imagining things. Crazy.

We ate at a usual place, so the servers weren’t the least bit surprised at our arrival. We sat in the corner just like we always do. We ate our meal happily and to our stomach’s content. For a little while, we forgot about our diets and strict dietary regimes we were on.

“Yah, chingu-ya, do you want to go get some ice cream to finish this meal?” I asked Taeyeon. She smiled radiantly at the mention of ice cream, her second favorite food behind gummy jellies. She nodded her head like an excited school child. Gosh, can this angel stop unintentionally charming her way into my heart?

“Omo! It's cold,” Taeyeon exclaimed in her ahjumma voice as soon as we were out the door. This girl, always forgetful when it comes to her own health. Aigoo. I slipped off my coat and placed it on her little shoulders. Her body was literally swimming in my jacket, but it was adorable. It almost made me feel like we were dating and I loved it. You know, how the girlfriend wears the boyfriend’s jacket? Man, am I a hopeless romantic or what. “Gomawo, oppa!”

Sadly, it was actually cold, so me trying to tough it out with the elements didn’t really work. I was just wearing a polo, a short sleeve polo to be exact. I tried to keep myself warm by basically hugging myself… but it didn’t do much good in retaining body heat. I guess Tae noticed because she hugged my arm.

“Ey, Ahjumma. It's okay, I'll be okay,” I said, holding up the ok sign with my fingers. I gave her a weak smile as I slouched over a little to keep the heat in my body in a somewhat central location… yeah it didn’t really work out…

“Pshh, don't make me laugh,” she said sarcastically, giving me a light push before she continued to hug my arm tighter. I couldn’t help but blush. I felt my temperature rising with my heart rate.

“Aigoo...Gomawo TaeTae,” I said quietly.

-Little bit later-

“Hey, Taeng…I think if we’re going to do this, we gotta do it right…” I said timidly… She gave me a look of confusion.

“What do you mean?” She asked ever so innocently.

“This couple thing…or else the people are really going to notice… come here,” I said, I was more than a little embarrassed. I gave her a shy smile. I scratched the back of my neck nervously. I hope she doesn’t misunderstand me.. I mean, if we do it “right”, we’ll just keep warm better. Unfortunately she didn’t catch my drift, judging by her muddled expression.  I took matters into my own hands and I draped my arm over Taeyeon’s shoulders, pulling her closer to my body.   “Aish, you silly ahjumma! Okay, just act natural.”

“Aigoo,” was all she said. I felt her arms snake around my waist. She hugged me tightly. I was scared she could hear my heart beat.

“There, it’s multipurpose. Disguise is complete and we can retain more heat,” I stated matter of factly and with newfound confidence.

“You seem to be enjoying this…” Taeyeon said quietly. Oh crap, she  probably thinks I’m a ert… oh .

“HUH!? Tae, don’t get the wrong idea! I mean…argh...” I was at complete loss of words… oh mannn how do I explain this to her?

“Calm down oppa, I’m just playing with you~” She said with a giggle. At the sound of her laughter, I was gone. It was enough to make all of my anxiety subside. We got our ice cream from a local vendor and we started to walk around aimlessly.

After our mindless wandering, we stopped by the Han River. I don’t know what came over me… but I had a sudden surge of confidence to tell Taeyeon my feelings. I was going to take the risk and just let life take its reigns on the situation. I pulled her to the edge of the sidewalk. Even with the brisk wind coming off the water and the night sky covering her, I could still see her undeniable beauty in the dim light. I looked confidently into her eyes, taking her hands in mine before I started my impulsive confession to my best friend, girl that I fallen so deep into love with.

"Taeyeon-ah, you've done so much for me these past few years. Now it's time for me to do something for you..." I said sternly, looking straight into her eyes. My hands were now on her shoulders, holding her steady so she couldn't break away. "If you give me the chance to, I'll make everyday worthwhile. I promise you'll always know you're beautiful and most importantly that you are loved. Taeyeon-ah, saranghae!"
