12th Quiz - I'm Sorry?

Yanghee and Haneul walked beside each other along the corridors lifelessly. The two could not believe what just happened earlier.

It was preposterous!

Totally unacceptable!

Yanghee stopped walking. Noticing this, the younger copied her movement. She raise up her guards once more when the older turned around to face her, squinting her eyes in the process.

"Have you eaten?" She asked. Haneul just glared at her. She looked in front again, walking again. "Follow me." She started. "I don't think we both want to face Hakyeon after what happened."

Haneul found herself following the foot steps of the older girl before her.

--

Yong Haneul and Jo Yanghee found their selves scavenging for food along the stalls of the convenience store nearby in hunger. As quick as 123, Haneul had picked what to eat whereas the older was having difficulty in choosing, checking each and every nutrition facts on the back.

"What are you doing?" Haneul frowned. "Don't mind me. Middle schoolers wouldn't understand." She kept on rummaging on each product, when a grumbling sound when her pause. She sighed deeply.

She must have been very hungry. Yong Haneul didn't know what cane into her, but she ended up kneeling beside Yanghee, scavenging for different products as well.

"Do you have preferences?" She asked without sparing a glance at the girl on her right. Yanghee shook her head. "Just give me anything with no lactose content, and I'm good." She said.

--

After failing to find a nutritious yet lactose free food from the convenience store, Yanghee decided to bring the younger to a fancy restaurant instead, serving proper meal.

Haneul leaned back on her chair, having herself stuffed. But of. Course she didn't let it show. She was too prideful to do that.

"Do you like him?" The former looked at the older, who was busy looking outside, her eyes cloudy.

When she did not answer, Yanghee turned to her, "Hakyeon... Do you like him?" She repeated.

Haneul turned serious this time. "I do." She admitted, her voice faltering. The college freshman smiled a little before reaching for her glass of water.

"That's too bad, though." She lowered her glass on the table before regarding Haneul a fiery gaze. "I refuse to back down from this challenge. I'm quite competitive, girl." She announced.

"This may not look like it, but we're actually supposed to marry each other in the future." She smiled sweetly. "I'm sorry, but I guess your fantasy will remain just as that."

Yanghee decided to take her leave when she finally told the kid what she wanted.

You're an idiot if you believed me. She slipped her tongue out as she walked away from the resto.

--

Haneul was kept awake until early in the morning. The words of the stranger rang in her head.

This may not look like it, but we're actually supposed to marry each other in the future.

She her left to force sleep to take over.

--

Several days later, Haneul woke up earlier than usual, and went to school earlier than how she does. She chose to originally wait for him outside the gates but when a black sedan car appeared before her, the girl remembered what the eonnie from before told her,

This may not look like it, but we're actually supposed to marry each other in the future.

Her eyes widening, Yong Haneul run inside the Campus only one destination in her mind: The faculty room.

Upon reaching the door of the faculty room, the girl knocked continuously but no one dared answer her.

It was, after all an hour before the class starts.

Her shoulders slumping, Haneul decided to wait at the roof top instead. Staying above the ground will be of her advantage. She would be able to see if he arrived already.

Yep, that's the best solution.

--

Soon, Haneul found that familiar mushroom hair that stood out from the crowd. Immediately witnessing him going in his way, which she was sure was towards the faculty room, she reached for the door knob, climbing downstairs.

--

Running for her dear life, Yong Haneul panted upon reaching the faculty room. They would probably answer the door now, right?

Yong Haneul knew she was supposed to knock and wait for someone to open up the door for her so she couldn't get why she slid the door open forcefully, humiliating herself as the whole faculty room stilled their movements inside.

--

Marry?

Hakyeon looked at the girl, incredulous. How could she speak that so easily?

Marriage is one thing shared by two people who love each other, so how...

In contrast to how she acted earlier, embarrassment seemed to have gotten into her finally, as her face started heating up. Noticing this, and the judgemental stares from the faculty members thrown at the girl, Cha Hakyeon stood from his seat, pulling the girl out of the room to who-knows-where.

--

Hakyeon brought Haneul behind the building that houses the school  library. He quickly removed his hand from her wrist, panting in annoyance. Haneul on the other hand just looked at his back figure, embarrassed.

"What's this?" He started, looking up. He turned around to face her this time, obviously irritated. "Is this another show to get attention?"

He doesn't know, but when he saw his coworkers ridiculing this student, anger started rising in his system, and he unintentionally discharged this towards the girl.

Yong Haneul looked down on the ground. If earlier, she was embarrassed, this time she was ashamed of herself. His reaction showed that he didn't like what she did one bit.

"Go back in class." He dismissed before turning to leave but her voice calling him stopped him in his tracks.

"I'm sorry. It's just that, I want you to know how I feel..." She squeaked. He looked behind to find the supposed to be arrogant girl looking vulnerable and scared.

"T-then, there was this girl who was constantly clinging to you. And I thought, well..."

Haneul heard the guy sighing, she looked up at him. "I'm sorry, but what I said earlier, it's true. I really like you." She squeaked.

"I'm sorry. I can't reciprocate your feelings," Hakyeon said before resuming his walk, leaving the girl all alone.

He didn't notice it when drops of her tears raced down her face one by one because of what he said.

--

Haneul decided to just skip class that day. She went straight home after the encounter with the teacher because she was afraid to meet him everywhere else, since he was always popping out of nowhere just like some kind of ghost.

A cute ghost at that.

Haneul covered her face with a pillow when the ridiculous thought of fan girling over her teacher (who downright rejected her) came to her mind. She kicked her legs frustratingly, glaring at the ceiling.

The crying has long stopped and she was left sniffing with a red nose. She heaved a deep sigh before standing up. Eyeing the book he bought her before. She scoffed, what do I care if he get together with the bling bling girl?

Few moments passed and she broke down again, gripping the sheets tightly as she cried, tears leaking out of her shut eyes.

Outside her bedroom door. Mr. Yong lowered her meal as he sat down in front of it, caressing the wooden door, pretending that it was his daughter's back, hoping that he could rub her back instead and show her his support.

--

That night, Haneul's voice rang inside his head, even when he was looking at his ceiling, ready to fall asleep.

I'm sorry, but what I said earlier, it's true. I really like you.

The young teacher placed his hand on top of his heart. Does he like her?

Unfortunately, no.

What he felt for her, is what he feels when he was with Yanghee. Nothing more, nothing less.

He doesn't love Yanghee romantically so he knows that he doesn't love the girl.

So why was he feeling guilty all of a sudden?

Maybe it was the first ever confession he received.

And he rejected it.

--

The next day, Cha Hakyeon heaved a sigh of relief when no traces of Jo Yanghee can be seen in the school vicinity. She must have been very tired convincing him already.

Well, he's not the same Cha Hakyeon anymore. Nobody could dictate him of what he wants to do anymore. He smiled proudly at this thought.

He almost jump off the windows when he came face to face with the unwanted presence when he turned to the corner going to the faculty ulty room.

"Let's go out. I'm not taking 'no' for an answer." Jo Yanghee, crossed her arms on top of her chest.

Hakyeon sighed. This would a long day for sure.

--

Hakyeon sat down, finally giving up his quest of asking Yanghee to sit down and calm herself. She look at him cheerfully, shaking his shoulders to get his attention.

"What?" He asked exasperatedly, looking to where she pointed. He smiled a little when he saw a mother and a young child smiling for a camera held by what he guessed was the father.

She sat beside him this time. "Should we ride the carousel again?" She laughed when the guy shook his head furiously.

"Are we done now? I still have classes to teach." He announced standing up. She stopped him by pulling his hand, "Hakyeonie." She whined yet again. "Can't we stay a linger longer?" She batted her lashes at him.

Hakyeon grimaced before sitting down again. "Where should we go next, then?" He asked her. She shook her head, smiling at him.

"I missed you." She said all of a sudden. He scoffed, "yeah right. As if you're telling the truth."

"Its true," She argued, looking at him intently. He look at her then. She leaned towards him and then hug him tightly. Hakyeon hugged her back.

"Too bad, I'm joining the contest all by myself." She said. She sighed before standing. She walked a few steps ahead of him, looking behind her to spare him a glance.

"I'll tell your mother you enjoy it here." She smiled at him. At this, the male smiled brightly at his old friend.

Yes, it's alright now. I've told him what I wanted to already.

--

"Yong Haneul?"

"She's absent, seonsaeng-nim."

Hakyeon looked at his attendance sheet before sighing when he placed another 'x' mark beside her name again.

After her confession that day, he never once saw the girl in his classes. He thought that she was only absent during Chemistry but it turned out that she has been missing all her classes ever since that day.

--

"Cha seonsaeng-nim?" Han Sunhee called him right before he could get out of the faculty room to get his lunch.

"Yes?" He asked her politely before going back inside the room.

"How was the relationship with your girlfriend going?" Mr. Yook jested, catching both the female and his attention. "Sorry?"

"Class B Yong Haneul confessed, right? Aren't you a couple now?" He laughed, but immediately stopped when he saw the female teacher giving him a reprimanding look.

"I'm sorry." He bowed. "I'll be on my way."

"Don't mind him, he's crazy." Han Seonsaeng-nim said when Hakyeon looked down. He answered with a nod towards her and a small 'its alright.'

"I want to talk with you about Haneul actually."

"I'm sorry?"
