Chapter 17

Cappuccinos & Crushes

“Yuju-unnie is doing what?” SinB asked incredulously as she and Yerin followed Sowon back to the main floor of the gala.

“Yuju-yah is flirting with some guy,” Sowon repeated, eyes scanning for her other friends. “She went to grab some of those appetizers, but when she didn’t come back, we found her with this guy.”

“Where’s Umji-yah?” Yerin asked immediately. “Is she okay?”

Sowon grimaced. “She’s been better.”

“Yuju-unnie is an idiot,” SinB growled. “Maybe even something even worse.”

Yerin put her arm around her girlfriend’s waist, trying to calm her down. “Yuju-yah isn’t being intentional in hurting Umji-yah. We’ve talked about this… She’s very oblivious.”

“Oblivious and weird,” SinB scoffed, “Umji-yah sure knows how to pick them.”

Sowon glanced over her shoulder and said, “Stop being petty, SinB-ah. If you really didn’t like Yuju-yah, you wouldn’t have encouraged them in the first place.”

Caught out on her anger-driven insults, SinB merely sulked. After circling the floor a few times, they managed to find Eunha and Umji tucked away in a corner. Eunha appeared to be comforting Umji, an arm around the younger girl’s shoulder. Yerin frowned and looked around for Yuju. Ah, there she was with some guy on the dance floor. At least he was handsome, Yerin thought. Though, that didn’t really help the situation much.

As soon as they reached the Eunha and Umji, SinB immediately left Yerin for the latter. It was an unfamiliar sight for Yerin, since she never saw how they interacted outside of their group hang outs. It was easy to forget that they spent all day at school together and even some time outside of it. There was no mistaking their closeness though as SinB took Umji into her arms and started whispering what were no doubt exaggerated threats toward Yuju, making Umji give a watery laugh.

“So, what’s the plan?” Eunha asked.

“We get Yuju-unnie to realize what amazingness she’s missing out on!” SinB exclaimed, placing her hands on Umji’s shoulders to emphasize that she meant Umji. Her words were a little ridiculous but they brought a shy smile and blush to Umji’s cheeks, so Yerin figured SinB knew what she was doing.

“Okay, smarty-pants, but how do we do that?” Sowon asked. She frowned, and Yerin followed her gaze to where Yuju was dancing much closer to the guy than she had before. “You know what, we don’t have time to plan for this. We’re winging it.”

“Sowon-unnie winging something?” Eunha couldn’t help but tease while SinB was ecstatic at seeing the straight-laced eldest let loose a little.

“I’ve got this!” SinB nodded enthusiastically, earning twin looks of worry from Sowon and Yerin. SinB ignored them though and started heading toward the dance floor.

“Yerin-ah, follow your girlfriend and make sure she doesn’t ruin Umji-yah’s chances with Yuju-yah,” Sowon requested with an exasperated yet fond smile.

Yerin saluted her and quickly found SinB, grabbing her wrist so she wouldn’t lose her again. SinB just grinned at her, and while this so wasn’t the time, Yerin felt herself fall just a bit more for her. “Follow my lead,” SinB whispered. Before Yerin could protest, she led them over to Yuju. “Yuju-unnie!” SinB called, using so much aegyo that even Yerin cringed. SinB wasn’t finished though. She pouted and punched Yuju’s shoulder lightly. “Unnie is supposed to be here supporting TinB.”

Somehow Yuju, bless her heart, found nothing particularly strange with SinB’s sudden aegyo overload. “Ah, I’m sorry, SinB-ssi!” Yuju cried. She pulled SinB into a hug that the younger girl reluctantly accepted. Yuju then turned to the guy she’d been dancing with and said, “I have to go, sorry.” The guy looked pretty confused about what was happening, but Yerin didn’t let him say anything, already dragging SinB and in turn Yuju back to their friends.

As they walked, SinB nudged Yerin and whispered, “Pretty good, right?”

“Never use that much aegyo ever again,” Yerin playfully scolded.

“Yennie loves TinB’s aegyo!” SinB cheered with enough aegyo to give someone a toothache, but Yerin couldn’t help but hide her delight and smile. “See, you love it!”

“Love what?” Yuju asked, half-listening to the conversation.

“My aegyo,” SinB replied.

“Ah, it’s not as good as Umji-yah’s though,” Yuju said.

Yerin and SinB glanced at each other, silently communicating. “Umji-yah is pretty cute,” Yerin nodded slowly. “It’s no wonder so many people have asked her to dance.”

There was a pause before Yuju asked, a slight hitch to her voice, “People asked her to dance?”

SinB, catching onto what Yerin was playing at, quickly agreed, saying, “A lot of people. It’s gotten to the point where Sowon-unnie and Eunha-unnie have to scare them off.” She gestured to the couple standing next to Umji, easily making the lie believable.

“Then maybe I should dance with her, so she doesn’t have to keep saying no,” Yuju said thoughtfully.

Trying to hide their smiles, Yerin and SinB said in unison, “Sure.”

That’s how, approximately twenty minutes later, Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, and SinB found themselves still huddled in their corner, watching Yuju convince Umji into doing dance after dance with her. Eventually, Umji pulled Yuju close and whispered something, and judging by her red face, she was confessing. As an answer, Yuju just kissed Umji, making everyone simultaneously freeze. Umji seemed to question it, but Yuju just said something back with a smile before continuing to dance.

A slightly confused but glad atmosphere overtook the girls, until Eunha broke the silence.

“Yuju-yah has always liked Umji-yah,” Eunha spoke up. Her words made all of the other girls turn to her in shock. “Don’t look at me like that. She asked me not to tell anyone. Anyways, she said she never pursued her because she didn’t want Umji-yah to feel pressured to say yes since she’s older…”

“Guess once she knew Umji-yah was interested,” Sowon said, “and she knew other people were interested in Umji-yah…”

“Then there was no more reason for hesitation,” Yerin finished the thought.

“Jealousy works wonders,” SinB muttered under her breath, eyes tracking the couple’s movement on the dance floor. “Yerin-ah, Sowon-unnie…”

“Don’t even act like you’ve never been jealous,” Yerin smirked.

“Whatever,” SinB retorted. “Now, come dance with me, loser.”

“Who are you calling loser?” Yerin gasped but laughed as SinB tugged her to the dance floor, Sowon and Eunha following after.

Yerin couldn’t stop smiling, hands on SinB’s waist, as they danced with their friends all around them. Who knew her life would change so much because of a girl who went to her family’s cafe.

A/N: Okay this is technically the last official chapter. What comes next is a bonus of sorts and an epilogue. Sorry to everyone disappointed that the story is finishing so soon, but having all the couples get together was the main plot of this story and now that's done. I hope you enjoyed this chapter and please look forward to the next update!
