Chapter 14

My bestfriend

The tomorrow morning, Changmin's older sister was holding a family gathering with some close friends and her in-law before the wedding this Saturday.

Everyone flew to Seoul to come.

Changmin naturally asked Victoria to accompany him to which she accepted.

Victoria was told it wasn't supposed to be formal but that word had another meaning when it came from some very rich persons. She had always known the Shim and their tendency to overdo all kind of event, from marriage to death. Fancy.

It was only 9AM but she was already wide awake, Changmin warned her he'd come take her at 10:30AM exactly.
She was so anxious, she couldn't sleep last night. All of her outfits were lying on the bed, she tried everything but nothing was right.

She wasn't worried about the Shim family reaction, but the guests. She will always remember that one time she went to Changmin's 17th anniversary in a jean and white tee after he told her she should come in a casual outfit, it wouldn’t have been a problem. She was so embarrassed by the things some of his fellow rich friends said upon seeing her that she left in cry.

Somewhere in her heart, she hated the idea of being with rich people. They were all literally born with a golden spoon in the mouth, their future were assured being the heir of some famous company and they will get married between them. Even sometimes, she wondered how she managed to get close with Changmin, to be his girlfriend having the approval of his parents and her sister. It happened before that Changmin told her some stories which happened to his friends, like their parents menaced them to kick them off the house without a penny if they don’t marry the one they’ve chosen for them.

Brushing the though aside, she sighed and called in emergency Julien. They became good friends after their first meeting and they regularly kept in touch.

"Hi Victoria" He greeted her.
"Julien, please, I need your help!" she pleaded through the phone.

When she explained the situation he decided right away to come to her rescue leaving the shop to Marie. He chose a few dresses here and there which he thought would fit her perfectly and fifteen minutes later he was knocking on her door.

Victoria's mom went to open the door, as she did she literally jumped a few steps back surprised to see a man of his kind standing there. She quickly gathered all of her knowledge in English and told him.

"Mister.. hmmm... Are you.... hmmm.... searching for... something?" She struggled to end her sentence which learned a laugh from Julien who tried to hide it.

"Good morning, Mrs. I came to see Victoria." he casually said in Korean as he bowed to her. was wide open, clearly taken aback he spoke Korean so well.

She let him in, ready to ask him all kind of questions when they heard Victoria running down the stairs. She hurriedly went down and greeted him.

"Hi Julien" She waved at him taking him by his arm. He waved back.

"Mom, this is Julien. Julien, this is my mom." She introduced them and dragged him upstairs before her mom could say anything.

When they entered her room, Julien gasped seeing the mess.

"What have you been doing? A war?" he asked discovering the field of war.

"I know, I know but..." She sighed and sat down on her bed.

"I have nothing to wear. You are my only rescue Julien." she continued defeated. As much as she wanted to be pretty, she would never be able to do it on her own. How could cheap clothes compete with some expensive brand clothes?

"Do not worry, I have everything you need." He cheered her up pointing at the clothes and suitcase he was holding. She glanced at the suitcase and waited for him to show her what he got.

“First, before I show anything, we need to clean your bedroom. I hate working in messy place.” He said as he was gathering all the clothes on the bed and started hanging them in the wardrobe. She laughed awkwardly and immediately got up determined as ever. In a few minutes, the room was clean. Julien laid the suitcase on the floor and the few dresses.

“So, since I don’t yet clearly know your taste, I’ve chosen quite a few dresses. I’ll let you chose the one you want, then I’ll do your hair and makeup. Marie will drop by later to bring shoes.” He explained as he showed her the dresses. She felt like she was in a briefing and she was so thankful. She got up faking teary eyes and hugged him.

“Oh Julien, from now on you are my hero.” She said, he laughed at her reaction and patted her back then took a step back.

“Am I Superman then?” He joked and she nodded like a child.

After some minutes debating with Julien about the dress she finally chose a light pink one. Julien then did her hair and makeup, and just in time Marie dropped by bringing the shoes.

Julien didn’t wanted Victoria to see herself in the mirror, he allowed her only when he finished. When she saw her reflect, she was quite taken aback.

“I look like a rich spoiled girl.” She laughed turning to Julien who shook his head.

“You are beautiful.” He said as he took her by the shoulders.

“The dress or makeup don’t make you beautiful, it just help you look a bit better.” He told her smiling; she didn’t knew what to think but still accepted his compliment and thanked him unsure.

“I have to leave. Marie is waiting for me, and Changmin won’t take long. I’ll meet you later at the party.” He waved her goodbye and left.

After Julien left, she anxiously walked in round biting her lips. She felt quite dense and knowing Changmin would come any minute made her more nervous. She went down and went to the lounge, when her mother saw she right away got up.

“Oh my, Qian you are so beautiful.” Her mother took Victoria’s hand and swirled her around.

“Thank you, mom.” She hugged her mom and sat down next to her.

“Can I know who was that man?” She curiously asked.

“Oh, Julien? He’s just a friend.” She answered as she took a glance at the clock hanging on the wall. It was 10:27AM, Changmin wouldn’t take long anymore, he should be on the road by now. Her mother nodded.

“Wait a minute.” She went to her room and came back with a box. When she opened there were earrings and a necklace. It was beautiful, Victoria never saw it before.

“A woman always need to wear jewelry.” She said as she handed the earrings to her daughter. Victoria gasped and shook her head.

“No, mom.” Her mother cut her and insisted.

“Don’t argue with me.” She hesitated for a seconds before taking it. Her mother took the necklace and turned Victoria’s back.

She brushed her hair to the side and she put the necklace falling perfectly on her neck.

“It fit you better than me anyway.” Her mother added as she took a look at her daughter.

When the ring bell, her mother went to open the door. As expected Changmin came, he greeted her mother who made him enter.

“Good morning, Mrs. Song. It’s been a while how are you doing?” He said as he got in, she nodded delighted to see him.

“Oh, Changmin, I am being old, I am not as strong as I used to be. How are your parents doing?” She replied as she leaded him to the lounge.

“They are fine. Oh and they expect you and Mr. Song to come at Boa’s wedding.” He warned her as his parents asked him to do so. She laughed at it.

“Of course, Boa is like our own daughter. How could we not.” She replied recalling the young Boa playing around with Victoria and Changmin when they were young.

When Changmin entered the lounge he gasped upon seeing Victoria. She kept her down shyly playing with her fingers. His mouth was wide open, her mother gently slapped him on his arm. He shook his head and gulped.

“Wow, Victoria you are…” He was at loss of words. He didn’t knew which word to use to define her glowing beauty.

“Wow” He took her hand taking a proper look at her.

“Hi Changmin” She waved her hand at him, he nodded sparkle in his eyes.

Victoria’s mother couldn’t help but felt touched seeing them, she knew they were holding back because she was there so she grabbed them both and leaded them outside.

“You better leave, my drama will start in a few minutes and I don’t want to be bothered.”

They were reluctant to leave but they just chose to follow her order.

“Have a nice day.” She said and closed the door when they were outside.

They both laughed turning back at the door, Changmin tried to open the door again but as expected it was locked so they had no choice but to leave.

Taking a glance at Victoria, he grabbed her hand. It was warm. She held it tightly.

“You are beautiful, Victoria.” He complimented her having the feeling of seeing a fairy in front of him. He had always thought that Victoria was a very beautiful and pretty woman, and today was no exception. She was just, as impossible as he believed, more beautiful than at her usual.

“Shall we go?” He asked, she nodded as they were leading to his car.

“It felt like you’ve spent some time preparing.” He asked as he opened the door for her, she glanced at him and nodded smirking.

“Well, I got some help.” She admitted as he entered the car.

“Julien?”

“How did you-” She asked before realizing it.

“Julien is just a chatterbox.” He told her as he thought of the talk he had before coming.  She shrugged and admitted her defeat.

As they were going the party’s place, Changmin couldn’t help take a look at her every once in a while.

Victoria noticed it and felt even more shy.

“Yah, stop looking at me like that.” She folded her arms together. Changmin’s made big eyes raising his eyebrows.

“It’s not my fault if my eyes only want to see you.” He admitted holding his arms in the air. She furrowed her eyebrows and slightly hit his arm.

“Don’t joke around.”

“I am not.” He refuted shrugging.

“And to be honest, I feel insecure right now.”

“Insecure? Why so?” She asked paying her full attention to him.

“There will be many men there, I don’t want any of them to come near you. I know what all of them are able to do.” He explained as he thought of how many of them will be present. Being one of the heiress of the huge Shim corporation, Boa had many male friends she was close to.

She looked sweetly at him, how cute was he. She took his hand and assured him.

“No matter how many of them are present, I’ll stay by your side.”

When they arrived, there was a crowd gathering around Boa and her soon to be husband. They were such a cute couple, Victoria then wondered if she looked as cute with Changmin and blushed at the thought stealing a glance at Changmin. He looked down at her raising eyebrow, she got on her tiptoe and kissed him on the cheek, holding hand then whispered.

“Like this, they’ll know we are one.”

When Changmin looked around them many pair of eyes were on them and some curious talk could be heard.

Victoria looked around for Changmin’s parents but didn’t saw them, instead Boa immediately went to them when she spotted them after excusing herself.

“VICTORIA!” Boa called her happily before jumping in her arms.

“Boa !” Boa’s fiancée, followed behind and both him and Changmin look at the two girls hugging together.

“It’s been so long I last you.” Boa said softly hitting Victoria’s head as for scolding her.

“I know, I wanted to go back to China so badly but my parents…” Victoria replied sadness taking over her face.

“I know, don’t worry I’m just joking.”

“By the way, I see you’ve gotten back together with that brat.” Boa talked in a low voice pointing finger at Changmin and winked at Victoria though Changmin was just beside and heard everything, he just pretended to not hear anything rolling his eyes. Victoria giggled, it felt so nice to see her again. Boa was like the older sister she never had, ever since she was just a baby, she always had good memories of Boa.

“We should not talk about me, you and Eric are getting married.” Victoria switched topic. Turning toward Eric, she added.

“I thought you would never propose, she kept calling me in tears wondering why you wouldn’t ma-“ Before she could finishes her sentence, Boa jumped on her and stopped her from talking anymore.

“Oye oye, you said enough.” Boa awkwardly said taking her away from the two boys who watched them amused.

“I never knew you cried because of this.” Eric told her as they were going away, Boa turned around and made a face.

“It’s a complete lie!” She yelled then turned toward Victoria and they could hear Boa scolding her for spitting the truth.

“You seem to be happy.” Changmin commented as he grabbed a glass of champagne.

“I am.” Eric admitted, sparkle in his eyes.

“If you love her, you should propose.” Eric advised Changmin, by the look in his eyes he could tell his love for her was real.

“Maybe, one day, we are too young.”

Kyuhyun, him, just decided to spend his day at home. He went to the Song’s to ask Victoria about some homework they had to do, but to his despair he was told she left with Changmin to his sister’s party.

The boys called him to hang out, but he didn’t felt like going out. He couldn’t help but think about Victoria… and Changmin.

Lying on his, his arms crossed behind his head, he blankly looked at the ceil lost in thought.

Why did that guy had to come right now? He shouldn’t be there, she used to hand out with him but now all her attention is on Changmin.

That wasn’t fair.

The more he thought about it, the more he felt anger built inside of him. He got up and stood in front of the window, he has a direct view of the Song’s house. No car was parked, so he guessed no one was present.

He grabbed his phone in his pocket and hesitated to dial her number, he tried a few times but whenever it was connected, he hung up.

He was so anxious, he felt gray hairs were growing so he decided to take a nap. When he woke up, it was around 3PM. He lazily got up and went down to drink water. His father was in the lounge watching TV, he sat down next to him yawning.

His father was much more better, her mother still passed by from time to time. They weren’t especially in great terms, but they were able to have a conversation calmly. He smiled at the thought though his heart was aching a bit when each morning he wakes up, he don’t see his mother around unlike before.

“Kyuhyun, can you buy some eggs?” His father asked as he landed some money.

He nodded and went to take a coat thinking the fresh breath would help him. When he went outside, he noticed an unknown car parked in the front of the Song’s house. He analyzed it and tried to find out whose car was it.

He glanced behind the house in the garden and saw two men looking inside, he gasped and hide behind the wall. When, one of the man heard some noise, he went forward and spotted Kyuhyun immediately. Noticing the fear in his eyes, the man took out his police badge.

“Police” The man extended his arm to Kyuhyun, who eyed the badge, he got up wondering what was up.

“Do you live here?” He asked, the other man came as well shaking his head.

“There’s no one inside.” The two men exchanged glances before turning to Kyuhyun.

“No, I live in the neighbor, just here.” He replied as he pointed a finger at his house. The men nodded.

“Do you know anyone who live in this house?”

“The Song family live there. There are the parents and their only daughter, Victoria.” Kyuhyun replied suddenly worried. Why were they here?

“Can I know what happened?” The man taking note ignored his question.

“Do you know how we can contact the daughter?” Kyuhyun nodded as he took out his phone, fear was taking over his body.

“I have her phone number. Why? Something happened?” Kyuhyun raised his voice. Why were they ignoring him? Why are they pretending to not hear him? Why were they avoiding eye contact? He wanted to know the truth.
