It was starting to get dark as Jungkook and I continued on our trip. After Hoseok had cured Jungkook, who was now healthy and alive, he and Namjoon had insisted to assist us to the king. However, we waved off their offer. They had already done so much for us, and I didn’t want to become a burden to them.
I glanced at the round pebble I held tight in my hand. Hoseok had taken one of the rocks from his little mountain and cast of spell to give it magical properties. He’d told me it would act as a last-minute weapon, and to only use it in emergencies. The thing was, he never told me how to use it, and just left without a word. I curled my hand into a fist, trapping the stone in my palm.

Jungkook did the same, taking off his leather jacket and stuffed it in the bag. He rested his head on the scratchy blue pillow, the opposite direction from me.
For a solid hour, we lay there, waiting for fatigue to win us over so we could sleep. But no matter how hard I tried, nothing came to me. Despite everything that happened today, I was wide awake with no intentions of falling asleep. I watched Jungkook’s stomach rise and fall, his breathing slow and steady, but I knew he was just pretending to be sleeping.
There were no streetlights, so the only thing that brought us light were the moon and stars. But with such limited sources, I could hardly see anything. I blinked once, then twice, waiting for my eyes to adjust to the darkness.
“Jungkook,” I said, my voice barely a whisper. “Why are you kind?”
He turned his head in my direction, his eyes shining through th
