CHAPTER 6 - The Guesses And Suspicions

The One You Found

== Chapter 6 ==

                                                                                                       The Guesses And Suspicions

Taejins eyes grew wide at the sight of Jungkook before him, “Sir” He shouted in disbelief, running up towards him and studying his face, as if to make sure it really was Jungkook “I looked for you everywhere, I-”.

“We’ll have time to talk, I first need to see Sera. Is she fine?” Jungkook cut him short.

“There’s something you need to know first, your father” Taejin said, with that apologetic face and Jungkook felt something sink within his stomach.

His father was all that he had. His mother had left them long ago, taking along Jungkooks older brother with her. It was so long, that Jungkook couldn’t remember their faces. He grew up with only his father as his only family, and as the only child, it made his father the most important person in Jungkooks life.

Having to see Taejins expression, whiles mentioning his father, was fearful, and he wanted the other to stop and stay quiet, in hopes it would somehow change or stop whatever that had happened whiles he was gone.

“Don’t say anything” Jungkook breathed out heavily, before falling into the couch next to him, - his hands shooting into his hair.

“But-” Taejin gave out a sigh “I will notify Sera of your return” he said, deciding to comply with Jungkooks request, and headed out.

“Is he dead?” Jungkook brought himself to say out loud, looking up now, as Taejin reached for the door handle, waiting a few second before turning around and nodding in a grim manner. Jungkook wanted to ask how, but just knowing that his father wasn’t around, the idea that because he lost his memory, and wasted that precious time uselessly with Jimin felt too much, and he felt sorrow and anger boil inside of him. Taejin waited a few more seconds, and when he felt sure that Jungkook wasn’t going to say anything, turned back and left.

It was almost for two hours that he had cried. He couldn’t accept the reality, even more when he didn’t have a chance to even say his farewell to his father.

-

He spent a week in misery by himself. Taejin had told him that Sera was overseas for business matters, and Jungkook didn’t want to bother her, even more when he wanted time alone.

There wasn’t much that Taejin told him about his father, apart from that his father died the day after he went missing.  Doctors had said that his health had declined drastically after learning of the news of Jungkook disappearance, to the point that he couldn’t handle it at his old age, and passed away.

Knowing this, he couldn’t help but think of Jimin. He couldn’t even blame the other as much as he wanted to at the start. The current knowledge meant that even if Jimin had taken him to the hospital after finding him, nothing would have changed the outcome. He could only blame the abductors, and those were behind it.

Sometimes it looked like Taejin wanted to say something, but he never did, and Jungkook felt far too miserable to ask what was bothering the other.

The doorbell rang, and he could see Seras face pop up on the screen, as he walked over quickly to press the button to let her in. She walked in, watching him shocked, as if he wasn’t supposed to be there. She watched for a while longer, and suddenly what seemed like a forced smile appeared on her face, as he ran to him, not bothering to take off her shoes, and just hugged him.

“I never thought I will see you again” she cried out.

-

It was already dark outside, as they laid in bed. They had spent the whole day talking about what happened. Sera telling him how she and his father were worried, her having stayed at Jungkooks fathers house, and her looking after him. How she had to take over the business in the absence of the two of them and how hard it was for her.

Jungkook told her all about the kidnapping, being found, and staying at Jimins house for over two months. He refrained from mentioning anything about the relationship the two shared in that time, not even mentioning Jimins name to her. He knew it was something he would never be able to tell her to the day he will die.

“They kept you all that time without reporting about it to police? Isn’t that kidnapping?” she scowled, clearly angry by just the thought of it “Maybe they were the ones involved in the kidnapping. We should report them”.

“No” Jungkook was quick to shoot down her suggestion “They knew nothing and I’m sure of that” he shook his head.

“Instead, I want to forget about all of this. I want to act as if nothing ever happened” he said, giving her a faint smile.

-

He watched as she further spoke in more detail about all that happened in the time that he was gone, and he leaned in to kiss her. She kissed back just as passionately, wrapping her arms around his neck, and he leaned his body over hers. They kissed for a while, his hands tracing over her body, and it felt so unfamiliar under his touch. So foreign, so unlike Jimins body, and his mind shooting back to the last memory he had of Jimin on the bed, crying…

“Let’s stop” he suddenly said, getting off her, and pushing himself to sit on the edge of the bed.

“What’s wrong?” Sera asked concerned “Did something happened?”.

Jungkook didn’t say anything, he couldn’t tell her either way. It wasn’t that he slept with a man, it was rather that he kept comparing her body to Jimins, and the guilt was eating him apart. That guilt not even being directed towards her, but to Jimin, he felt like he was cheating on Jimin, despite it being Jungkooks fiancée he was with now. He felt so messed up.

Soon she sat next to him, her hand resting on his shoulder, as she looked at him concerned, and was about to speak when her phone rang. Her eyes darted towards the phone quickly, seeing the caller, she rushed to grab the phone, “I need to take this” she said heading for the door, as she answered the phone “I can’t talk right now…”. Jungkook heard her warning the caller, as the words faded out, with her closing the door. He could hear the sound of her voice, but couldn’t make out single word, and he didn’t really try, there was too much going on in his head to begin with.

“I have to go. I’m so sorry” She apologised, quickly kissing him on the lips to say goodbye “I will come by later” she said before heading out through the bedroom door. Jungkook couldn’t help but think it was better this way, it felt somewhat suffocating having to suddenly go back to his previous life and he felt like he needed his mind to rest.

He couldn’t say much about her leaving, this was Sera, she was always prideful, secretive and a strong woman. Business was what joined them both together, and their wedding was part of a good business deal. Developing feelings for each other was their own merit, and only made it all more convenient for both.

=

It was morning, when Jungkook dialled for Taejin to come over.

“I want to find out who was behind my abduction” Jungkook said, and Taejin winced at the words, making Jungkook frown.

“What is it?” Jungkook asked “Do you know something?”

After a careful consideration, Taejin spoke up again “It’s not my place to say…”

“Just say it, whatever it is, I need to find out who’s behind it” Jungkook answered, his expression growing serious. Taejin was his secretary for so long, and a person that Jungkook always trusted. Seeing him refrain from speaking made Jungkook feel anxious.

Taejin spoke up again, and Jungkook could only listen with a frown.

“…It was strange. They didn’t want to take him to the hospital. Instead they called a doctor over. I had never seen that doctor before, and no one would allow me in to see what was happening”

“He was too ill” Jungkook wrote it off as a fact, somewhat annoyed at Taejin for such stupid assumptions, till the other continued to speak.

“But he was fine when I had seen him” He tried to explain, his emotions clearly pouring out as his expressions changed with each word “I had seen him walk to the bathroom just fine. After he came back to his room, a tea was sent over, and not even an hour after they said he felt ill and wouldn’t wake up. I know, it sounds like speculation” Taejin admitted “and I didn’t think much of it back then either. But after the ambulance took his body away, there were no tests run, he was sent to be cremated and suddenly these reports popped up.”

It somehow got Jungkook hooked on, it was speculations, and although he told himself they were stupid and ridiculous, he wanted to fully hear Taejin out.

“Go on” Jungkook said with a firm voice.

“The company went crazy after the news spread, everyone was scared about their stocks plunging with the two of you gone, the company’s future seemed uncertain, and then…” he paused looking somewhat uncomfortable to continue “Nearly half of the board members suggested Sera to take over in the meantime.”

“What are you suggesting here?” Jungkook looked angered now “that Sera had something to do with this?”.

“I-It’s not that.” Taejin quickly defended “I’m just saying it all seemed so strange. It all happened so quick that it just seemed too well planned out. After Sera took over, all these new investors no one had ever heard of and then her father’s company suddenly increasing in value, despite having been caught up in that slush fund controversy. That said, the scandal just suddenly died down, and not a further word has been out about it from any of the prosecutors or lawyers and now that you’re back-”

“Ok, stop” Jungkook said, his breathing somewhat unsteady. If he was to give a moment of a doubt to what the other said, it would make a lot of sense. What was worst, if the thought that it could be Sarah behind his kidnapping, that she could be involved in ways Jungkook could not imagine. He sat there thinking for a while, of some sort of solution, to confirm any of the others speculations, and right now his own worst worries.

“What do you suggest I do now?” Jungkook looked up at the other. Taejin had clearly have thought about this long, and had considered a lot of points, and Jungkook could only hope there was also some sort of plan by Taejin in place as well.

“To be safer, I think you should break up Sera” Taejin said, and Jungkook tilted his head, raising an eyebrow but not saying anything to disagree and Taejin took it as a sign to continue “If you’re near her, she will know all your moves, and can easily influence any of your decisions or their outcomes, having her in the unknown will allow us to investigate her without putting you in danger.”

“…and if she turns out to be innocent, I can just have her back” Jungkook finished, somewhat satisfied with Taejins suggestion.

“Most importantly, you need to take back your post from her” Taejin said “That way, she will have less power within the company”.

                                                                                    AUTHOR's NOTES
