Hyuna’s phone vibrated but she had no time to glance at it.  She was too busy.  After the music video finished at 1 am, Junghyung called Hyuna back to the studio to work with the recording producer.  It was the twentieth take of the rap and Junghyung complained about the acoustics.

”Is he always such a perfectionist?”

“He usually gets it right the first time around and is satisfied with the sound,”  said the producer. “This is news to me.”

Why does he take so long?  She glanced at her phone and she had six texts from 4 minute and three from JS. 

She texted JS back--  “Not tonight.”   Before Junghyung hovered over her phone to see to whom she was replying, she slipped her phone in her green bomber jacket pocket.  “I’m taking selcas waiting,” she said as a quick excuse placing both of her hands in her pockets. 

“You know why I am taking my time, because I want you to stay longer,”  he said as he curled up a smile.

Junghyung had a way with words.

As the producer worked with Junghyung to drum up the right beat, Hyuna posed with the studio lettering from Cube in the background.  She positioned the camera out with her arms as she read the texts attempting to be inconspicuous in front of Junghyung while she fake posed with an eyewink for the selfie.  Hyuna thought about posting it on Instagram but it would be unfair to JS.  He would only be upset that she is working with Junghyun. It was best if she left it alone.  She frowned and deleted the picture. 

“Let’s go back to the first line,”  said Junghyung to the PD. 

She looked at the music sheet where Junghyung had crossed in red his rap highlighting only a couple of lines in yellow.  She took a pen, scribbled a couple of lines and finished off the lyrics. 

“I’m going home, PD.”

“Already, but we haven’t finished the lyrics.  We barely started,”  complained Junghyung.

“We’re done,”  she said handing in the paper like a proud schoolgirl turning in her homework. 

“Aigoo. . . I think she has the hook,”  said the producer looking over the rap sheet.  “She finished it off for you.”

Hyuna was determined to make it out of the studio before daybreak.  

“Let me sing my part,”  she requested as she put on her headphones and headed to the sound booth to record the rap--  “Break it down.  Break it down from the top y’all.  I have it good baby, real good and slow with you.”

“Hyuna is some type of rap genius,” said the PD,  “I’m not sure why you never dated her.”

Junghyung who always had an answer for everything shrugged his shoulders.

Hyuna swiped her brand new Cube Card and exited through the back of the building towards the company van.  She headed out with the intention of returning home but asked the driver to stop near a brightly neon lit street touched by the night rain and lined with karaoke bars.  The attendant directed her into the loud back room.

Gayoon opened the door and hugged her.  She wore a long bohemian paisley dress, which suited her style. 

The table was set with beer bottles, soju, vodka and orange juice.  The girls had already danced on the table by the looks of the overturned  broken glasses. 

“I’m glad you were able to make it, Hyuna.” 

“Here drink this,” she handed her a shot of soju.
