Brave at heart (final chapter)

Hold Me Tight - (VKook/BTS)

Unedited!

Ⓣhe same Monday Jungkook went to Taehyung’s place after school. The blond male couldn’t help but to think of his previous conversation with Hoseok. Firstly he thought of Yoongi and how confused and crushed he must’ve been, and he was really itching to tell him, but he couldn’t betray Hoseok like that.

On the other hand, the other thing they talked about, what Taehyung wondered never left his head. He actually did indeed trust Jungkook more than anyone, and he did want to do it with him, but he was afraid it’d hurt. Well, obviously, but would it hurt so much it would make him want to stop? To regret it all? He wouldn’t only hurt himself, but Jungkook as well.

Taehyung wasn’t exactly confident he could bear it.

“Are you okay?” Jungkook asked as he noticed how stiff his boyfriend was.

“I’m fine,” he replied, trying to act normal, but Jungkook knew something was up.

“Come on,” he smiled as he nudged him lightly, “tell me.”

“No, it’s stupid,” he laughed embarrassed.

“Nothing’s stupid,” he reassured him.

“Okay,” he breathed, avoiding his gaze. “I was just wondering if it’d hurt a lot.”

“What would hurt?” Jungkook asked confused.

Taehyung stared at him to see if he was serious or not. “ual…stuff.”

“Wait,” Jungkook chuckled, “you’re wondering if having will hurt?” he asked, smirking widely at his boyfriend, who only slowly nodded whilst blushing embarrassed. “So you’ve been thinking about having with me for the past hour?”

Taehyung jumped like he was electrified. . “Uhh…”

“You did,” the darker haired male grinned, “but you don’t have to imagine it though,” he smirked as he leaned in for a kiss to the other. Although Taehyung did enjoy the kiss, he wasn’t exactly in the ‘mood’ to do other stuff at the moment. “It’s fine,” Jungkook smiled as he rather just threw an arm around his shoulder and sank deeper into the sofa as they continued watching the television.

The same day, Min Yoongi was wandering around in the neighbourhood. He didn’t have a specific destination, as he just wanted to get some fresh air. He thought it was a good idea, but that changed right away when he spotted an certain orange dyed haired male not too far away on a bench with another guy. He was about to just walk away as he hadn’t been spotted by them yet, but when he saw he was feeding the other boy with him - who was apparently his date - confirmed Yoongi’s suspicion that they were more than just ‘friends’.

The sight made Yoongi’s blood boil, and he couldn’t help himself as he stumped his way towards the couple.

“Park Jimin!” he yelled unexpectedly, which made the two males jump in their seats.

The dyed hair male glanced up, and when his eyes met with Yoongi, it was visible he looked so shocked as if he saw a real ghost. “Hyung…” he barely whispered in return and immediately stood up from his seat to match the other’s height, although he was still a bit shorter.

“Did you lie to me back then?” Yoongi asked right away, not wanting to drag their meeting longer than necessary. He didn’t want to talk to him right now, but he couldn’t help but to ask either to confirm his thoughts.

“Hyung, please, let’s talk in private, yeah? I’ll explain everything to yo - “

“I don’t want an explanation!” he interrupted him furiously, “I want you to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to my question. Did you lie to me?” he repeated himself. He certainly didn’t want to hear his reason for what he did to him when nothing would change anyways, so it’ll only be a waste of his time.

However, Jimin remained silent, and the pink haired one knew the answer from his eyes alone. “Great, thanks,” he muttered, obviously hurt, and quickly turned his back to him.

“Hyung!” Jimin yelled as he grabbed his arm, trying to prevent him into leaving. “Please let me explain,” he begged.

“I don’t want to listen to your explanation,” he spat, “it doesn’t change the fact for what you did, and it certainly doesn’t change that you hurt me. I don’t want to listen to whatever you want to say.” And with that, he picked up his speed and walked away, not looking back, although he badly wanted to.

Jimin fell back down onto the bench, staring off where Yoongi had gone to, and his date knew exactly what he was thinking about.

“You can still catch him,” he said.

“Huh?” Jimin gaped at him, whilst he only smiled in return. “I’m sorry to interrupt our date Hoseok, but I’ll have to go after him. I did something horrible, and I need to apologise the right way.”

Hoseok only smiled in return and nodded at him. “Call me later?”

Jimin smiled with a nod, and then he ran off to the same direction as Yoongi, hoping to find him as he couldn’t have gone too far.

Not too far away, he spotted the same pink haired male walking with his back against him; Jimin picked up his speed and ran up to him, grabbing his arm the same way he just did. “Hyung, please listen to me. Please listen to my explanation,” he begged more.

Yoongi snapped his arm back with a sigh following. “Don’t you get it? I don’t care if you have a super good explanation or not. I don’t want to ignore the fact that you hurt me, and I don’t want to feel sorry for you,” he muttered, but the other still heard it perfectly. “Go back to your date Jimin,” he said, “have a good time with your boyfriend.”

Once again, Yoongi passed him, this time believing the other would listen to him and leave, but he was wrong yet again as Jimin had attacked him with a back hug and wrapped his arms around his torso and pressed his face against his neck.

“Yoongi,” he whimpered, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry for what I did. I know what I did was wrong. I know what I did hurt you badly. I know that I lied to you. I know what I did was insensible, and I know it was the wrong move. I know it all, and I still live in regret of my foolish and stupid actions. You have to believe me that I regret it deeply.”

The younger may didn’t know, but tears were streaming down the elder’s face silently, and he tried not to sniff to spoil his actions. “Regret what, exactly?” he whispered, wanting a concrete answer.

“I regret lying to you. I regret rejecting you. I regret getting a girlfriend after your confession…” he stopped for a moment as he continued to cry onto Yoongi’s neck. “I regret letting you go.”

Yoongi forced Jimin’s arms open as he turned around to face the other. “Why?” he asked, now revealing his tears to the younger. “Why did you get a girlfriend?” That had been the question Yoongi wanted to ask the most. He understood if he was straight or not, or if he didn’t want to admit it, or just didn’t have feelings for him at all… But why did he get a girlfriend right after his confession? Was it just to break his heart? To take revenge of him or something? That was something that never left Yoongi’s mind.

“Because I wanted you to forget about me,” he said, still teary-eyed, struggling to continue, “and I also hoped…I’d forget about you too.”

Yoongi’s eyes widen as he stared at the other. “Huh?” he gasped confused, not understanding one bit. “What are you talking about?”

Jimin took a deep breath before he looked him straight in the eyes, ready to explain it to him. “When you confessed to me, I didn’t answer honestly. I was in fact, and still am, gay. But my family doesn’t accept it, and they tried to convince me that whenever I tried to say I was gay, it was just a useless thought I had and it was because of my friends or something. I knew for a fact what I was, but they wouldn’t accept it. I tried to make them like it, like normal people do and just accept whatever’s different from them, but they’re too stubborn to listen,” he explained, “and when you came forward and confessed to me, I was really happy as I had been crushing on you as well, but then the image of my parents were flashing in front of me, and I knew I couldn’t accept your love, especially not at that time, and then I made a stupid mistake by saying I wasn’t gay and never would be. I knew you didn’t believe me, so I asked a female friend of mine, whom I knew fancied me, to be my girlfriend, in hope you’d forget about me, and that I’d forget about you as well.

“But when I heard you ran away, I broke up with her immediately as I couldn’t bear with the guilt. I tried finding you, getting in contact with you, but I never succeeded, so I convinced myself I should give up as I knew you hated me, and it was what I wanted at first, but I regretted it so much.”

After Jimin fell silent, Yoongi decided to speak up again. “So you regret everything?” he asked, “what if you didn’t? What if we were together at this point? Would you be happy?” Jimin didn’t answer at first as he had to think. “You have a boyfriend now, or at least you’re dating someone. You should stay faithful to him.” He stopped, but kept on going as he knew they wouldn’t talk again after tonight. “I know you’re not a bad person Jimin. Listening to you, I don’t hate you. You made stupid mistakes and you hurt me a lot, but I’m going to forgive you, so don’t feel guilty anymore. But don’t think everything I’ll do from now on is because of you, it’s because of me and I do it for myself. I want to say thank you for changing my heart, and I hope you’ll do well with your new boyfriend and your family; I hope they’ll accept you from who you are, because it’s the true you that’s a lovable person who’s out of reach in this world. I still love you, and I always will, but now I’ll say goodbye, so…” Yoongi forced himself to stop crying so the younger would have a different image of him as for their last moment together. “Goodbye, Park Jimin.”

Yoongi didn’t wait for him to reply, or even say anything at all, before he turned around and ran the fastest he could. He ran like his life depended on it, and it actually did. If Jimin stopped him, he knew he wouldn’t leave. He knew he’d stay…because of him. But he didn’t want Jimin to love him. He didn’t want him to be with him; he deserved better. He deserved another guy with a fresh start and fresh feelings. He deserved someone else, that wasn’t Min Yoongi - or at least that’s what he told himself and believed in. Park Jimin was the most amazing human being he knew of, and he knew he was the kindest person at heart, and therefore he’d let him go. For good.

Taehyung saw in the corner of his eyes that his phone lightened up, and it was flashing a text message.

Yoongi hyung~: “I’m sorry about last time. I talked with Jimin and sorted it out, but I’m afraid I’ll be leaving again; tonight actually. Don’t worry, I won’t change my phone number so we’ll continue to stay in touch, but I’m leaving this town. I’ll be living with a roommate I had previously when I ran away, so don’t worry about me, and don’t call or send me messages if it’s about begging me to come back, because I won’t. And please don’t blame Jimin, he did nothing wrong. I let him go, so please understand. But I don’t belong here, so I’ll be gone for good now. Stay well, and I’ll talk to you soon again my Taehyungie. I hope we’ll be meeting up frequently.”

The blond male had to continuously read the message over and over again, hoping the words would change, but it stayed the same every time. He had been holding the phone tightly until Jungkook appeared beside him and took it from him to read the message as well.

When he was done, he immediately glanced at Taehyung worriedly. He expected him to break down in tears again, but surprisingly he looked calmer than he was before when it came to his dear friend. “You okay Taehyung?” Jungkook asked to be sure.

Taehyung snapped out of his trance to look at his boyfriend. “I’m fine,” he said, “I’m actually fine.”

“I know it must be hard having a friend leave, but at least you can still talk with him,” he reassured him.

Taehyung nodded. “Now that I know his reason and that he’s telling me he’s leaving, I don’t feel hurt or mad. Sure, I’m sad he’s leaving and I can’t see him too often, but I can still see him every now and then, and we can still keep in touch. At least he didn’t just take off like last time, and explained himself.”

Taehyung had told Jungkook before about Yoongi’s situation. He told him that Yoongi was in a tough spot and needed support, but he seemed to have decided for what was best for himself, even if it meant for him to leave. But Taehyung respected his choice, and he neither blamed Yoongi nor Jimin. He trusted them both.

“I’m proud of you,” Jungkook whispered as he leaned closer to his boyfriend and pecked him on the cheek.

“Proud of me?” he asked confused. “Why?”

“You’re stronger,” he smiled, “you trust your friends and yourself more, and I’m proud you do.”

Taehyung grinned back at him. “You think so?”

Jungkook kissed him again. “I believe so.”

Jungkook’s words meant the world to Taehyung. He didn’t want to be the coward he always had been. He didn’t want to stay as a person who was afraid of everything and nothing. He wanted to become like Jungkook; a person that did what he believed was right, and stayed true for what he believed in.

Taehyung wanted to face his fears, be more courageous and show he wasn’t just a wimp, but that he was brave at heart, just like his friends. Just like his mother.

Just like his lover and boyfriend, Jeon Jungkook.

The end.
