Book 4: Blast from the Past

Chapter 8: Wooing

Kyuhyun couldn’t believe what was happening to him right now. Was he really trapped inside his own apartment with his ex?!

The Super Junior evil maknae couldn’t understand how his life had gotten into such a mess. (He refused to acknowledge the mental voice that told him that it was all his fault. That things wouldn’t have had to get to this point if he hadn’t been so stubborn and kept trying to run away again.)

Kyuhyun forced his throat to become unstuck. “Get out!” he snarled at Changmin. Or tried to snarl, at least. It’s difficult to properly snarl when you’re still surprised by your ex’s sudden and most unwanted appearance, Kyuhyun would have you know.

“No,” was all that Changmin replied stubbornly. Being stubborn was an evil maknae trait, after all. If Kyuhyun was stubborn, then Changmin was sure as hell stubborn as well.

“You’re trespassing!” Kyuhyun hissed. “If you don’t get out right now, I’ll call the police!”

Changmin had to scoff at Kyuhyun’s bluff. “Yeah, right! Like you’ll really call the police when you’re supposed be in hiding!”

“The police in this small town don’t know who I really am!”

“But I’m not in hiding, and if it became known that I got arrested here and why, you’ll be found as well.”

Kyuhyun gritted his teeth in annoyance. Of course, Changmin would find a way around Kyuhyun’s threat! Changmin was an evil genius as well, after all. If it was a pabo hyung that Kyuhyun was dealing with, winning by being threatening, evil, and/or sneaky would be as easy as pie. But, again, Changmin was an evil genius like Kyuhyun. They were quite well matched (Kyuhyun refused to admit that there were still butterflies that appeared in his stomach even now at just the thought of being a good match with Changmin), and Kyuhyun would have to try harder to win against Changmin than he would have if he was dealing with a pabo hyung.

Seeing as Kyuhyun didn’t seem to be able to say anything for a while, Changmin looked around a bit at the apartment where Kyuhyun and Minhyun had apparently been living in for the past few years.

“Where’s Minhyun?” Changmin asked Kyuhyun, wondering why their son hadn’t come running out. Surely, Minhyun must have heard them talking by now and become curious to check what was going on?

“Not here,” Kyuhyun snapped. “Not that it’s any of your business in the first place.”

“Are you still keeping my son away from me?!” Changmin demanded. “What did you do, send him away so that I won’t see him?!”

“He’s in school, you idiot!” Kyuhyun retorted. But Changmin’s words did get Kyuhyun thinking… If Changmin had already found out where they lived and would keep showing up, maybe it was best if Minhyun wasn’t here… Hmm….

“Oh.”

“Now, get out.”

“What part of ‘I’m not going anywhere until we’ve talked’ do you not understand?” Changmin shot at Kyuhyun.

To which Kyuhyun retorted right away with an equally sharp “What part of ‘I don’t want to talk to you’ do you not understand?”

“You can’t keep me away, Kyuhyun.”

“Last time I checked, you were an idol—when did you become a stalker?” Kyuhyun shot at Changmin nastily.

“Since you decided to be a goddamn stubborn that won’t even talk to me!”

Again, having two angry evil maknaes in the same area was dangerous to one’s health. There was a high chance that Kyuhyun’s apartment might not survive this encounter intact. Heck, the entire apartment building might not survive.

Changmin then took a deep breath. He needed to calm down. Of course he knew that Kyuhyun would be difficult. The Super Junior evil maknae’s stubbornness was testing his temper, but Changmin needed to remain calm. He needed to be calm if he wanted to get back the love of his life. Which he did want. Very much, in fact.

“Look, just tell me what I have to do, Kyuhyun,” Changmin just said seriously now.

Kyuhyun was confused by the change in Changmin. “What you have to do? What are you talking about?”

“Tell me what I have to do to please you!”

“Well, you leaving my apartment and never coming back would be please me,” Kyuhyun replied with a raised eyebrow. It was unlikely that Changmin would do that, but hey, Changmin did ask what would please him, right…

“No!” Changmin groaned exasperatedly. Koreans didn’t typically have second/middle names, but if they did, “stubborn” would be the perfect second name for Kyuhyun. Or “annoying.” Yeah, “annoying” would work, too. “I meant what do I have to do get you back?” the DBSK maknae now clarified.

That had Kyuhyun scoffing. “Get me back? Are you serious? Haven’t I told you like a million times already that we’re through? There’s nothing that you can do to get me back!”

Changmin just sighed wearily. It seemed that his ex was dead set on being difficult.

“Now, get out of my apartment!” Kyuhyun ordered yet again.

Only for Changmin to refuse yet again. “No.”

Kyuhyun’s eyes narrowed into slits. He considered his options.

He couldn’t call the police. Changmin was right—calling too much attention would expose Changmin. And, in turn, Kyuhyun.

He also couldn’t use physical force and drag Changmin out of the apartment. Changmin had always been stronger than him. (And Kyuhyun would refuse to admit that even now that they’re over, his stomach still squirmed whenever he saw the muscles in Changmin’s arms flex. He had to remain angry! He couldn’t afford to be drooling over his ex’s muscles!)

He couldn’t also get others to drag Changmin out for him. Xiari would refuse to help, as the ELF was of the opinion that Kyuhyun should go back to his Super Junior hyungs. Hankyung can’t be relied on for help—his Chinese hyung was a traitor! He was the reason Changmin was now in Kyuhyun’s apartment in the first place!

So, Kyuhyun was just left with only one other option: ignoring.

He was going to ignore Changmin until the DBSK maknae got tired and/or annoyed enough to leave Kyuhyun’s apartment in his own volition!

Kyuhyun stalked over to his couch, flopped down on it, crossed his arms over his chest, and looked firmly away from Changmin.

(For such an evil genius, Kyuhyun could be so… *sigh*)

“What are you doing?” Changmin asked bewilderedly now.

No response.

“Kyuhyun?”

“Kyu?”

“Kyuhyun!”

“Are you seriously ignoring me now?!” Changmin shouted, his face’s color reflecting his fandom’s color due to his mounting annoyance and exasperation. Someone remind him again why he was still head over heels in love with this childish idiot?!

Still no response.

“Don’t make me go over to that couch and do unspeakable things to you!” Changmin threatened.

One might assume that Changmin was intending to murder and/or torture Kyuhyun. However, with the way that he said “unspeakable,” Kyuhyun had to fight back a shudder, knowing that tone of Changmin’s. It was the tone where sooner or later, they ended up in a tangle of limbs and wouldn’t be, uhm, done with their activities until many hours later.

And Kyuhyun really understood Changmin’s tone right. Changmin’s eyes were now darkened as he watched Kyuhyun on the couch. The DBSK maknae was remembering the past… He and Kyuhyun did use to love defiling the couches in the DBSK and Super Junior dorms, much to the dismay of their hyungs. The hyungs have had to replace their living room couches so many times.

Kyuhyun still refused to give any physical signs of being bothered by Changmin’s words, though.

After a few minutes of still not getting anything out of the Super Junior maknae, Changmin let out another sigh.

“Fine. Be stubborn if you will,” Changmin said quite calmly. Too calmly. As if Kyuhyun hadn’t been greatly trying his patience with all this ignoring.

If Kyuhyun wasn’t intent on ignoring him, he would have looked at Changmin questioningly in trying to determine what Changmin might thinking or might be up to. As it was, Kyuhyun just continued to stare at the wall of his living room as though the blank wall was the most fascinating thing that he’d ever seen in his life.

“But know that this is only the beginning,” Changmin continued.

That did not sound good to Kyuhyun.

In fact, it sounded so bad to Kyuhyun that, despite all his ignoring plans, his head whipped around at those words, and he stared at Changmin.

Changmin then smirked at him. “Be prepared for the wooing of your life.”

“What?”

“I’m going to woo you. Win you over. Mark my words, Cho Kyuhyun—you’ll be wooed like you never have been before in your life.”

And with another final seductive smirk at Kyuhyun, he left Kyuhyun’s apartment.

Leaving Kyuhyun sitting on his couch, thunderstruck.

Wait, what?!

Changmin was going to woo him?

Heaven help Kyuhyun.

“You need to stay with Auntie Xiari for a while, okay, Minhyunnie?” Kyuhyun said as he packed some of Minhyun’s clothes into a bag.

It was early afternoon of the same day that his ex had shown up in this apartment. He had just brought his son back from school a while ago, and Kyuhyun was now busying himself with packing Minhyun’s things.

Yes, the evil maknae had actually decided to let his son stay with Xiari for the time being.

Changmin was planning to woo him. Which meant that Changmin was definitely planning to come back there!

Kyuhyun didn’t want his precious dumpling exposed to his old life. Especially not to his ex! So, as much as he didn’t like not having Minhyun with him, Kyuhyun couldn’t see a better option than to have Minhyun stay away for a while.

Well, okay, Minhyun wasn’t really going away. He’d just be in the other apartment across the hallway. But Changmin didn’t have to know that Minhyun was still just in the same vicinity, right?

(And really, with Kyuhyun being such an overprotective mother, there’s no way that he’d let his dumpling stay away from in a place much farther than the apartment just opposite his.)

So, the evil maknae was now packing some of Minhyun’s things for his stay with Xiari.

“Which pajamas do you want to bring with you, Minhyunnie? I’ll pack your pajamas with sushi? And the ones with donuts?” Kyuhyun asked his son, wondering which “food pajamas” Minhyun would want to have with him.

When Kyuhyun didn’t get a reply, though, he turned around to look at Minhyun, who had just been standing by door.

And Kyuhyun thought that his heart would stop.

Tears were flowing down Minhyun’s cheeks again.

“Minhyunnie? Why are you crying?!” Kyuhyun asked worriedly as he quickly abandoned his packing and walked to his son. He crouched down and pulled Minhyun into his arms. “What’s wrong, dumpling?”

Minhyun just continued to sob.

“You don’t like the pajamas that I’m packing for you? Is that it?” Kyuhyun asked stupidly.

“Y-you’re sending M-Minhyunnie a-away, umma?” Minhyun managed to say through his sobs, looking at his mother with the most pained expression that Kyuhyun had ever seen on his son’s face.

“No!” Kyuhyun denied at once, finally understanding what was bothering his son. “It’s not like that, Minhyunnie!”

“I-is umma a-angry at Minhyunnie? S-so you’re s-sending me a-away?” Minhyun asked through his tears.

“No! Of course I’m not mad at you, dumpling! It’s really not like that!”

“M-Minhyunnie is s-sorry, umma! P-please d-d-don’t send me a-a-away!” the little boy begged, clinging tightly onto his mother. He didn’t want to be away from his mother! Minhyunnie should always be with his umma!

Kyuhyun was at a lost on how to explain things to his son.

He hugged Minhyun tightly and pressed a kiss on top of the crying boy’s head. “It’s not like that, Minhyunnie,” he said again softly. “Umma’s not mad at you. And umma doesn’t like you being away, but you really won’t be away, right? You’ll just be next door with Auntie Xiari! And umma will go to you there often!”

“But why does M-Minhyunnie have to s-stay there?” Minhyun sniffled. He really couldn’t get what was going on. If his umma didn’t want Minhyun away from him, then why was he making Minhyun go away? Adults really were too confusing even for the genius little boy!

“It’s… better for you to stay there for a while. And safer.”

Minhyun just looked at him in complete confusion. “What’s going on, umma?”

“It’s nothing important, dumpling,” Kyuhyun replied quickly, as he wiped away Minhyun’s tears. “Just… you need to stay with Auntie Xiari, okay? Just for the time being. It’s for the best. Trust umma, okay?”

Minhyun still didn’t understand. And he definitely still didn’t like being away from his umma, even if he was just going to be next door!

But he did trust his mother, though. His umma was the best, and his umma knew best. So, if his umma said that it was best for Minhyun to stay with Auntie Xiari, then Minhyunnie will trust his umma.

“Okay, umma,” Minhyun finally agreed, though the sadness was still apparent in his tone.

He snuggled closer to Kyuhyun, and Kyuhyun wrapped his arms tighter around his son.

Kyuhyun couldn’t help but wish yet again that he and Minhyun hadn’t been found and that their normal lives hadn’t been so badly disrupted.

Xiari had not been pleased when she opened her door to find Kyuhyun and Minhyun there, with Minhyun’s bags in Kyuhyun’s arms.

And she became even more displeased when Kyuhyun explained what he wanted and confirmed the suspicions that Xiari had from the moment she saw Minhyun’s bags.

It’s not that Xiari didn’t like Minhyun staying with her. The ELF adored ELFs’ little prince, of course. She loved having Minhyun with her.

What Xiari didn’t like was Kyuhyun trying to hide Minhyun with her in his attempts to act like a goddamn stubborn !

Still, she wasn’t about to refuse the little boy in front of
