CHAPTER 8

[Tree House]


Yuri rested her chin on the windowpane as she gazed into the shining stars. It was amusing to her on how she could be happy AND miserable at the same time. She got what she wanted; her love life was heading to a happy ending. Jessica was hers. Nevertheless, she lost someone in the process and it killed her to the core.

 

“Need some company?”

The voice startled Yuri. She turned around and gawked even more when she saw its owner. It took her a while before became conscious that the figure facing her was not some kind of a hallucination. “Hey.”

“Hey.”

“What are you doing here?”

Seohyun flashed a teasing stare. “You don’t want me here?”

“No no no.” Yuri quickly explained herself. “It’s just…uh…I mean…”

“I heard that you missed me.”

The tanned girl gazed at the latter and slowly nodded. “Terribly.”

Seohyun let out a small sigh and kneeled in front of her sitting best friend. “I miss you too.”

By then, Yuri’s eyes were already glistening. She hated the fact that their close friendship was drifting apart. “I’m sorry, Seohyun. I’m really sorry.” She started to sob.

“Don’t.” Seohyun’s voice trailed as tears welled up in her eyes. She held the latter’s hands.

“I just…” She gulped. “I don’t want to lose you.”

Seohyun quietly chuckled. “Silly. You will never lose me. I’m sorry Yul, but I don’t plan to go anywhere.”

“Glad to hear it.” Yuri flashed a tiny smile before frowned seconds later. “Seohyun, about us–”

“I love you, Yuri. There’s nothing that can change that.” Seohyun heaved a deep breath. “You and me, we’re a great team. I don’t want to mess that up. As much as I love you, I love our friendship more. I just want you to be happy, and if Jessica is the reason why you’re happy right now, so be it.”

“But–”

“I’ll be alright. I’m a big girl, Yuri. You don’t have to worry about me. Yes, it’ll take me some time to get used to the idea of you and Jessica, but I want to be fine with it.” Seohyun beamed though her heart was aching at that point. “I will be fine with it.”

“I love you, Hyunnie.” The tanned girl threw the latter a big hug.

Seohyun tightened their embrace. “I know~”

A few days later~
[KRAZE Room]


The members of the KRAZE were having a lunch together after a long meeting. While some of them were busy chatting about random issues, Yuri was fixated on her somehow anxious-looking best friend. It was a long day but the puffed-cheeks didn’t even touch her food.

 

“Are you okay, Seohyun?” The little remark caused the others on the table to turn their attention to the girl.

“Huh?” Seohyun instantly looked up. “Hm, yeah.”

Something however caught Jessica’s attention. “I didn’t know you were a lefty.”

“Oh, this?” Seohyun awkwardly giggled. She knew that holding the chopsticks with her left hand would draw question marks to people. “I’m not. I, uh…hurt my right fingers last night.”

“Yah, why didn’t you tell me?! Let me see.” Yuri already stood up.

“NO!” Seohyun quickly replied as she pushed her right hand further inside the table cloth. She secretly glared at the doe-eyes beside her as the action brought soft giggles from the girl. “I’m fine.”

“Are you sure?” Yuri was concerned.

Seohyun faked a smile. “Positive.”

As the other continued with their lunch, Seohyun was still searching for the right way to grab on her meal with her ‘new’ hand. She then glanced at Yoona and cautiously nudged the girl, hoping that no one would notice it. As their eyes met, Seohyun immediately scowled at the deer while mouthing a soft ‘Let me go’ between her gritted teeth.

A fuming Seohyun never failed to amuse Yoona as she found it really cute. She flashed a naughty smirk and tightened their lacing hands under the table as she replied a simple ‘No’ to the frustrated writer.

Seohyun sighed in defeat. As much as she wanted to yell at the deer for somehow making her skipped her lunch, her heart couldn’t help but to flutter at the contact. She quickly looked away as her face was getting reddened when she felt Yoona’s fingers caught her right hand with a firmer grip.

It had been going on like that for quite some time now. Yoona would literally treat Seohyun as if she was her girlfriend when no one was looking. Nothing that would offend the baby-face, the doe-eyed girl would give her a simple peck on the cheek, linking their arms and even locking their hands together when they were alone.

As for Seohyun, sometimes it just occurred to her that she was lying to herself. Denial. Yes, that’s the word. Her mind kept screaming to stop whatever that had been happening between her and Yoona, but her lips refused to say the word. At times, she just wanted to strangle herself for enjoying Yoona’s touch. She hated that she would furiously blushed whenever the playful kid stared at her with that charming doe eyes of hers.

 

After making sure that no one was looking, Yoona grabbed a piece of food with her chopsticks and held it in front of Seohyun’s mouth. She showed a sweet smile. “Say aaaahhh..”

Seohyun widened her eyes. How could that girl be so bold?! “Are you crazy?!” She stressed.

“Do you want to starve to death?” The prankster wore a poker face. She grinned as the latter secretly pouted and swiftly ate the food. “Good girl.”

“I’m done!” Yoona exclaimed with her loud voice. She let go of Seohyun’s hand and stood up, not forgetting to leave a wink to the latter as she walked away to throw the meal box.

“Yoong!”

Yoona turned around as someone grabbed her arm. “Hey, Sica!” She grinned widely.

“Hey, have you practiced on your solo number?”

“Not so much. The exam is killing me! I just need to revise on a few more chapters before I can focus on my song.” She pouted.

The blonde chuckled at the adorable mope. “Because I was wondering if you’re available tonight.”

“Tonight?” Yoona squinted. “What’s up?”

“I was wondering if you could come over to my house.”

“Oh? Whatever for?”

“Well, you know…maybe we could…um…practice our solo songs together…or…uh…study…or…” Jessica didn’t know why she gulped. Oh, right. She was asking her love interest to spend time with her. Two girls in a house. Alone. What’s there to be nervous about? “…just hang out?”

Yoona paused for a while. “I love the ‘hang out’ part.”

“Yeah?” Jessica bit her lip in excitement. “So, it’s a date?” She quickly cleared and shook her head in embarrassment. How could she slip that out?! “I mean, it’s a deal?”

“Sure, why not? I got nothing to do anyway.” She stopped. “Well, not really. I have to study, but hanging out with you sounds to be more endearing.”

Jessica shyly beamed. “So, at what time should I be expecting you?”

“Let see now.” Yoona closed her eyes, trying to remember her daily to-do list. “Hyoyeon unnie asked me to help around the café after school, and then I need to pick up the laundry…I guess I’ll come by at sev–”

“Hey. What are you girls talking about?” Yuri butted in from behind.

“Oh nothing. Your girlfriend and I have a date, that’s all.”

Yuri frowned as she forced herself not to let out a glare. A very hard task, especially after seeing her girlfriend lowered her head in a bashful way, as if the blonde was enjoying that remark. “Excuse me?!”

Yoona wickedly giggled. “Yah, I’m just kidding.”

“Yoong and I have some plans tonight.” Jessica explained as she chuckled at the little joke.

“Plans?! But I thought we are going to see a movie?” Yuri faced her girlfriend.

The blonde wrinkled her brows. “What movie?! How come I know nothing about it?”

“Because I was about to tell you?” Yuri sheepishly smiled.

Jessica silently sighed. “Can’t we just watch it tomorrow?”

“I already bought the tickets, Sica.”

“Yuri, you can’t just make plans without asking me first!” Jessica scoffed. She was really frustrated for the fact that she might have to cancel on her plan to spend a quality time with her crush.

“I don’t know that I have to. You know, since we are together and all.”

“I know that. I know we’re a couple now, but that doesn’t give you the right t–”

“Woah!” Yoona broke in the little fight. “This is supposed to be me and Seohyun, not you guys.” She tried to lift up the tensed mood.

“Stay out of this, Yoona!” The tanned girl accidentally burst.

Jessica’s icy stares were back. “Don’t talk to her like that!”

“Are you for serious, Sica?!” Yuri squinted. “Tell me something. Why do I feel you’d rather spend time with her than with me?!”

“Well, if you have to know,”

“Hey, I’m still here. Can’t we just not talk about me? Please?” Yoona flashed a guilty smile. It was astounding on how a couple’s argument eventually led to her.

“Yes?!” Yuri was still waiting for her girlfriend to finish her words.

The blonde let out a deep sigh as she massaged her temple. If it wasn’t for how complicated things would get, she would have just burst the truth out. “Whatever.”

The three girls muttered nothing. Deep inside, they were glad that none of the KRAZE team members were close enough to witness the intense scene.

 

Yuri eventually composed herself. She held Jessica’s hands. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell at you.” The latter was still on silent. “It’s just,” She sighed. “We’ve been a little busy these past few days, we barely see each other. I just want to have some alone time with you, that’s all.”

“You can have her.” Yoona softly said.

Jessica was obviously surprised at the statement. “But Yoong, we–”

“It’s okay. Uh, we can do it some other time.” Yoona had no clue why she was disappointed with her own suggestion. She was actually looking forward to hang around her close friend.

“Thanks Yoona.” Yuri grinned as she held her girlfriend at the slim waist. “So? What do you say?”

Jessica struggled to conceal her displeasure. “Pick me up at 6.” Her voice was barely heard.

“Great!” She placed a quick kiss on the blonde. “Hey, I need to show you something.”

Jessica’s eyes were still fixed on Yoona’s for a few seconds as she’s being dragged away. The deer, on the other hand, just sighed at the scene. Her heart felt weighty. It left her amazed somehow. Her best friend was happy, Jessica was happy; or so she thought, wasn’t she supposed to feel the same way?

About a week afterward~

“Ugh, why am I here?!” Yoona pouted as she sprawled almost half of her body on the wide table.

“Because you won’t stop bugging me, and that you annoyingly insisted on following me everywhere.” Seohyun didn’t even look up from her book.

“Well, when you like somebody, proximity is a very good thing.” Yoona blankly stated.

Seohyun shyly beamed behind the hard covered volume. Knowing that Yoona would not notice it; pleased her. She didn’t know why, but she somehow restrained herself from opening up to the doe-eyed girl. Was it for the fact that she was enjoying the girl’s wooing practice a little too much, or that she might still have feelings for Yuri, she had no clue.

She was, however, beginning to get used to Yoona’s fondness towards her. She would whine about it, but that didn’t stop her quivering heart. Whenever she was around, Seohyun couldn’t help but to feel giddy. Whenever she wasn’t, she would miss her laugh and sweet voice. That’s what mad
