Drunken Words Are Sober Thoughts

Runaway Groom

Jessica stirred a silver spoon in her steaming cup of tea as she waited for the couple to join her for breakfast.  Sandara was excited to talk over the wedding preparations, Jiyong was nervous to meet Jessica again, and Jessica was just waiting for the whole thing to be over already.  Jessica saw a black Mercedes at the side of the restaurant through a large glass window and saw Sandara and Jiyong emerge from the luxury car.  Jessica took a deep breath and hoped that everything would go well.

When Sandara and Jiyong walked in, she forced herself to smile.  Wedding planners were supposed to be highly optimistic and cheerful.  Jessica plastered a smile on her face and bowed to the couple when they reached the table.  Jiyong pulled out a chair for Sandara and then sat down on the chair next to Sandara.  After their food was ordered, they finally had time to talk about the wedding.

"So when do you guys plan on having the wedding date?" Jessica asked.

"Well, we plan on having it on February, so you'll have to work really fast," Sandara told her, "I want the whole thing to look like one big fairy tale.  I want it to be a garden wedding.  I want the day to be perfect at the exact temperature of eighty-two degrees fahrenheit.  I want the reception to be surrounded with lots and lots of flowers.  I would also want the food that will be served to be 100% vegan.  I recently went vegetarian six months ago, so I want my guests to experience that."

Jessica listened to every words as her hands tried to write down every single thing quickly.  She didn't know that Sandara was very picky.  Jiyong seemed as if he didn't have a say in the wedding.  Although Jessica didn't want to think about him, she couldn't help but wonder what was on his mind.  When she made her wedding preparations with Jiyong, he voiced out his opinions and preferences along with Jessica.  It was as if he was letting Sandara make all the decisions.

Jessica knew that he wouldn't want a fairytale wedding.  He always thought it was cheesy.  She also knew that he wouldn't want a garden wedding with lots of flowers everywhere or 100% vegan food.  From Jessica's knowledge, Jiyong was afraid of bees and the flowers would attract bees.  He also wasn't vegetarian and he was a meat lover.  Jessica gulped and tried to think about something else.

"I usually ask this to all the couples that I arrange weddings for," Jessica told them, "How did you guys meet?  I usually help the maid of honor and the best man make their speeches if they're having trouble.  I need background information as you two as a couple."

Sandara quickly spoke, "Well, I had a crush on him when we were still kids.  I was too shy to admit that I liked him because I'm three years older than him.  I was a freshman in high school and he was just starting middle school.  Isn't that embarrassing?  Well, we met again when I was on vacation with my family in Paris.  His parents were there with him and they sort of hooked us up together."

"Oh...Paris.  It's beautiful there, isn't it?" Jessica asked slowly.

"Yup!" Sandara exclaimed, "I love the food and culture there!"

Jessica wrote the word "Paris" on her notebook with some anger as she pressed down hard on the pen.  She had always wanted to go to Paris. She cleared as her eyes drifted to Jiyong.  Jiyong was staring at her and then looked down on his coffee.  Sandara's eyes widened as she stood up.

"I forgot to introduce you guys!" Sandara slapped her forehead, "How rude of me!"

Sandara caught them staring at each other intently as the smile on her face faded.

"I think you two may know each other already," Sandara guessed.

Jiyong shook his head, "No, Dara.  I don't know her."

Jessica felt pain inflict against her heart as he looked away and smiled at Sandara.  She felt anger and disappointment.  She dated him for two years.  They were together for two years before he proposed to her and he acted as if they never even knew each other.  All the moments of laughter, sadness, jealousy, and tears that she had once shared with Jiyong meant nothing to her anymore.

Jessica cracked a sinister grin and stood up from her seat.  She extended her hand out to Jiyong as Jiyong shook it consciously.

"Hello, it's finally nice to meet you.  My name is Jung Jessica," Jessica said sarcastically.

Sandara's phone suddenly rang.  She told them that it was her manager and that she was going to talk to him outside.  Jiyong and Jessica nodded together as Sandara walked out of the restaurant and spoke to her manager.  Jiyong and Jessica saw Sandara talking on the phone through the large window.  Jessica's eyes darted back to her tea as she stirred it slowly.  Jiyong felt uncomfortable as his eyes began to wander around the restaurant.  Jessica couldn't take it as she threw her silver spoon down on the table.

"So you went to Paris!" Jessica stated.

"Yes, I did.  I'm sorry that I went there," Jiyong replied, "I always knew that you wanted to go there when we dated."

Before she could reply, she felt someone tap her shoulder.  She turned around quickly and saw a familiar face.  Jiyong couldn't help but notice that a smile immediately replaced the frown on Jessica's face.  He watched her stand up and hug the man tightly.  Jessica offered him the seat next to her as he accepted it.

"Onew, I can't believe that you're here.  I thought you were promoting in Japan for another year?" Jessica asked.

Onew shook his head, "I'm staying here for good.  The only time I'll be gone is when I go to New York for a series of quick concerts, and then I'll be back here."

Jiyong looked at Onew.  Onew looked very familiar to him.  He thought that he saw him a few times on broadcasts shows and guessed that he was some type of musician.  Jessica's statement that he was supposed to promote in Japan for another year confirmed his assertion.  Jiyong examined Onew and with Onew's body language, Jiyong could already tell that he had a big crush on Jessica.  When Onew looked at her, his eyes automatically lit up.  His smile stretched from ear to ear when she gave him her attention.  Jiyong's eyes shifted to Jessica.  She was always so clueless.  He was pretty sure that she didn't recognize the admiration Onew had for her.

Onew finally realized that Jiyong was present and shook his hand from across the table.  Jiyong shook his hand back and managed to fake an artificial smile on his face.  He saw Sandara walking back to the table as she put her cellphone away.  As soon as she entered the restaurant, she grew petrified.  Her skin was attacked by goosebumps as she saw a familiar face again.  She never thought she would see Onew again.

Onew, who was on Jessica's side of the table, looked completely shocked.  Jessica and Jiyong looked at them with curiosity.  When they made eye contact, it was as if they had seen a ghost.  Jessica cleared and tried to start up a conversation.

"Do you guys know each other?  Are you guys old friends or something?" Jessica asked.

"Uhm, no.  I don't even know him," Sandara shook her head.

Onew remained quiet as he looked down at his fingers.  He refused to make any eye contact with Sandara.  Onew suddenly stood up from his chair and looked directly at Jessica.  Jessica looked back at him and realized that he was very anxious and uncomfortable.  Jessica grew worried because he had been a good friend to her for a very long time.  He was also Yoona's best friend since high school.  It was a miracle that those two didn't end up together.

"Uh, I really need to go now," Onew bowed as he waved at everyone else.

As Onew made his way out, he managed to bump into a waiter holding a tray full of food.  The food fell and was scattered all over the floor.  Onew tried helping the waiter clean up the mess, but then he realized that there were too many people looking at him.  He fished out a stack of bills from his pocket and handed it to the waiter.  Jessica couldn't help but giggle as Onew blushed and then ran out of the restaurant.

To her surprise, Jessica heard Sandara laughing along.  Her face was turning pink as she gasped for air.  It was as if she was going to cry from laughing so hard.  Jiyong was startled by Sandara's laughter.  She had never laughed that much when she was with him.  Jessica and Jiyong gave Sandara an awkward stare as Sandara forced herself to stop laughing.

"He's always been accident prone!" Sandara chuckled.

Jessica grew observant, "He is.  How did you know that?"

Sandara shifted in her chair uncomfortably as she decided to change the subject.  The food arrived and she began to eat immediately.  She chewed quickly as Jessica began to take small bites into her french toast.

"I actually have something that I should tell the both of you," Sandara said.

Jessica kept her ears alert as Jiyong gave Sandara his full attention.  Sandara seemed a bit nervous at the announcement that she needed to make.  She started to feel hot, so she took off the knitted scarf around her neck.

"I need to leave to go to New York.  My manager just called and they said that I need to be in New York by tonight.  I'm going to play as a supporting actress for an American movie.  I didn't want to let this opportunity go, so I said yes to them.  I'll be gone for quite some time," Sandara told them.

"How can you leave for New York when we should be planning our wedding?" Jiyong angrily asked.

Sandara bit into her eggs, "Well, it was a great opportunity and I can't let it pass.  This was just random.  About the wedding arrangements...Jessica, I made a whole booklet of how I want the wedding.  Here it is."

Jessica's eyes almost bulged out of her eye sockets as she saw the stack of papers that Sandara had given her.  There had to be more than fifty pages.  Jessica wanted to hit herself for ever agreeing to do this wedding.  She just realized that the soon to be bride was a perfectionist.  Jessica managed to give a smile as she took the booklet and put it in her oversized purse.

"If you made that booklet then it means that you were planning this all along.  You didn't even tell me that you were leaving," Jiyong realized.

"Look, hun...just look at the bright side.  This will expand my career.  All what matters is that Jessica plans the wedding the way I want it and that I'm there on the wedding day," Sandara said relaxingly.

"Oh my gosh!" Jiyong exclaimed, "You won't get back here until the day of the wedding?  You're insane!"

"Nope, I'm not insane.  I'm just a little crazy.  And plus I'll be here the day before the wedding to make sure that everyone is good," Sandara corrected him.

Jiyong sighed, "Dara, I don't know how this is going to work."

Sandara looked at her phone and realized that she had received a text message.  It was a reminder from her manager that she had to get her bags packed already.

"Listen, babe.  I need to go now.  All you need to do is help Jessica out in the wedding.  I want you to go with her to all of the events like the wine tasting and whatever else you need to do.  Call me and report to me the progress.  I need to go now because I need to pack my luggage.  Bye, babe.  Goodbye, Jessica," Sandara waved at them both.

Jessica watched the petite woman walk out of the restaurant and enter her manager's car.  She almost felt sorry for Jiyong.  He was getting married to an overachiever.  Jiyong seemed frustrated as he watched his fiance walk away.  She was so demanding that it confused him.  He tried to remain calm to show Jessica that he was not affected by Sandara's decision to leave.  Jessica continued to eat her food as if nothing happened.  She then smiled grimly as she sipped some water from her glass.

"Your marriage should be interesting," Jessica whispered in a mocking way.

Jiyong could do nothing but glare at her.  He couldn't believe that she had just said that.  His stare didn't die down as he looked directly into her eyes.  Her heart was blackened with a grudge.  He knew that much.  Even if he had not seen her for four years, he still could see right through her.  Jessica noticed that he didn't even blink as he looked at her.  She began to feel irritated.

"What are you looking at?" Jessica snapped.

Jessica left the restaurant and went straight to work.  When she got off of work at eight o'clock at night, she decided to visit her sister.  Yoona was home alone with the servants because Seunghyun was at work.  As soon as Jessica entered the house, Yoona's eyes lit up immediately.  Yoona gave her sister a tight hug as Jessica smiled brightly.

"I wanted to see my little sister.  How are things with you and Seunghyun now?" Jessica asked.

Yoona rolled her eyes as a smile flashed on her beautiful face.  Yoona led Jessica by the hand into a random bedroom.  Even if there was seven bedrooms in Seunghyun and Yoona's mansion, only one bedroom was occupied and that was the master bedroom.  Yoona personally loved it when she had guests over, so she insisted that they have many bedrooms for their guests that would like to spend the night.  Yoona stood out a door and set her hand on the doorknob.

"I was pissed off at him even when we came home from the mall.  He was apologizing over and over again, and I was so mad at him that I refused to sleep in the same bed as him.  I was going to sleep in this guest bedroom, but he stopped me.  He was trying to lure me away from this bedroom and he insisted that I sleep in another room or he sleeps in the couch while I sleep in our own bed.  I was getting curious.  I was also getting suspicious and I thought he was cheating on me and he was hiding a woman in there, so I needed to check that bedroom out for myself," Yoona started.

Jessica's eyes grew narrow, "Don't tell me he was cheating!  I'll kill him!"

"No, unnie!" Yoona smiled, "When I look back at it, I laugh because I was so absurd.  I was yellling out, "I'm going to kill the that you're hiding in this room!"  Well, I forced my way through Seunghyun and I pushed him off to the side with all of my strength.  I managed to open the door and I saw this."

Yoona twisted the doorknob and Jessica gasped out in surprise.  Jessica felt her icy heart melting as she looked at the room.  The room was decorated in pastel colors that matched well together.  The sweet smell of light lavender filled the room as Yoona explained that the wallpaper to the room was lightly scented with lavender.  Jessica looked around the room and found a baby's crib, a changing table, a rocking chair, and an armoire.  There were toys to the side.  It was a nursery paradise.

"Yoona, you never told me you were pregnant!" Jessica exclaimed.

"Unnie, I'm not pregnant right now!" Yoona giggled, "It's just that Seunghyun confessed to me when I saw this room that he wanted a baby.  I feel so stupid for never looking at this bedroom.  It's because the house is so big.  I never thought of having a child right after the marriage.  I always thought that I'd get pregnant maybe two or three years into our marriage, but Seunghyun admitted that he wanted a baby right now.  I don't know why, but all of my anger disappeared.  He told me that he was defensive of the subject of me and Taecyeon because he didn't want us to get separated.  He wanted me to be the mother of his children."

Jessica admired Seunghyun for manning up and confessing to Yoona of his hopes and dreams.  Seunghyun had once told Jessica that his dream in life is not to be the best actor in South Korea; his dream in life was to raise a healthy, happy, and unified family.  Jessica knew that he was a family man.

"And because I love him so much, I'm going to give him a child," Yoona announced.

"Do you want to have a child though?" Jessica made sure that it was what Yoona wanted.

Yoona nodded, "Yeah, I'm mature enough for the commitment.  I guess I need to stop using birth control."

Jessica sat on the rocking chair and threw her head back as she stared at the ceiling.  She gave off a cheeky smile as she looked at her sister.  Yoona looked back at Jessica and realized that there was something dirty on her mind.

"Sounds like fun," Jessica joked.

"What?" Yoona asked.

Jessica grinned, "You know...trying to have a baby.  Sounds like fun for you and Seunghyun!"

Yoona burst into laughter as she playfully slapped Jessica at the side of her thigh.  Yoona and Jessica were comfortable enough with each other to discuss about each other's lives.  Yoona ran out of the room quickly and came back with a box full of chocolate.  When they were younger, they would eat chocolate as they laid on the floor.  As they laid on the floor, they always talked about things that they would be too afraid to discuss with other people.

Jessica clapped, "Yes, I've been craving for chocolate!"

"I'm so excited!  We haven't ate chocolate and vented to each other in so long!" Yoona squealed.

Yoona opened the box of chocolates as the two sisters laid next to each other on the floor.  They stared at the ceiling of the nursery room as they began to stuff their mouths with the decadent indulgences.

"I can't believe that you have a better life than me.  I'm the older one. I should be the one that's married first so that I can be the one giving you the advice about marriage," Jessica claimed.

"Unnie, the right man will come for you," Yoona assured her, "You're beautiful, wealthy, skillful, and you're a good person."

"I'm also y, cold, and spiteful," Jessica laughed, "I don't think anyone will ever be able to stand me."

Yoona teased, "Maybe you're y, cold, and spiteful because you need a serious relationship...or you just need to revive your life."

"Four years without ," Jessica stated, "I can't believe it's been that long."

Yoona couldn't help but laugh at Jessica.  Back then, Jessica would have been too afraid to talk about her life, but now she was very open with it.  She had grown so mature over the years that it almost felt as if she had changed into a completely different person.

"Oh, by the way, how did the meeting with Sandara and Jiyong go?" Yoona asked.

"Eh, it was whatever," Jessica shrugged her shoulders, "I did learn enough to know that Sandara has the upper hand in the relationship.  It was weird.  He normally didn't let people push him around, but he let Sandara push him around.  I think he changed."

"Everyone changes," Yoona whispered.

Jessica nodded at her sister's statement.  Changes were unavoidable.  She really couldn't expect Jiyong to stay the same after four years.  She knew that he was going to get more mature sooner or later.  Jessica grabbed two pieces of chocolate and smothered them into as a way of hiding her emotions.  She was always the type that ate her feelings.  It was a good thing that a fast metabolism ran in her family.

"Unnie, I think your phone is vibrating," Yoona informed her sister.

Jessica realized that her phone was vibrating in her pocket the whole time.  Jessica looked at her caller ID and realized that it was an unknown number.  Yoona watched her answer her phone as Jessica pressed it against her ear.

"Hello," Jessica greeted.

A masculine voice answered back.  His voice was very rough and manly that it almost frightened Jessica.

"This is Jessica, right?" the man asked.

"Yes, this is Jessica," Jessica confirmed.

The man replied, "Your boyfriend is passed out in my bar.  Right now, he's laying down on a couch.  I think he's knocked out.  I asked him who I should call to pick him up and he kept on saying your name.  I went through his phone and I found your name, so I called you.  I think you should pick up your boyfriend."

"I don't have a boyfriend," Jessica was puzzled.

"I checked his ID and it says that his name is Kwon Jiyong," the man said.

"Oh, ," Jessica cursed.

Jessica left Yoona's house after the phone call to pick Jiyong up from the bar.  She was enraged at him.  He had to get his fitting for his tuxedo tomorrow and she didn't want him to get it with a hangover.  Jessica slammed the door to her car after she parked it in the bar's parking lot.  Jessica entered the bar and saw the man that called her.  Jiyong's arm was swung across the man's sturdy shoulders.  To Jessica, Jiyong looked stupid.  He was smiling like an idiot and he couldn't even keep his balance.

"Mister, I'm Jessica," Jessica bowed.

The man nodded, "Where's your car?  I really can't have him stay in my bar any longer.  He picked a fight with two guys.  Surprisingly, he beat them.  I thought he would lose because he was a little shorter than them, but he has a lot of power."

"Is that so?" Jessica asked intriguingly, "Please put him in the white BMW outside."

After the man put Jiyong in the front seat, Jessica thanked him and then made her way to the driver's seat.  Jessica saw the bar owner walk back to his bar and disappear after the door closed.  Jessica hit her forehead with her palm as she realized that she didn't know where Jiyong lived.  When they dated, he lived in an apartment, but the apartment complex was torn down two years ago to make a shopping mall.  Jessica saw his wallet sticking out of his pocket.  She fished it out and opened his wallet.

When she opened it, she found it infested with a thick stack of money.  Jessica rolled her eyes as she realized how much cash he carried around.  She figured that his license with his address was in one of the slots to his wallet.  As she tried pulling out his license, a picture dropped to the floor of her car.  She reached down to pick it up and hit her head on the steering wheel on accident.  She winced at the pain while she picked up the picture.

Her eyes broadened as she saw that it was a picture of her when they had started dating.  She looked at the drunken man in her front seat and fought the urge to slap him.  She took a deep breath.  When he started to move around, she quickly looked at his address and then returned the picture and license in his wallet and slipped it back in his pocket.

Jessica the ignition and began to drive.

"Sica...S-Sica!" Jiyong slurred.

"Shut up," Jessica fired back, "I still hate you."

"I love you, Sica," he mumbled drunkenly.

"No, I hate you," Jessica repeated.

Jessica glanced at him and realized that he was sleep talking.  He had a habit of sleep talking when he was drunk.  Jessica suddenly smiled as she found it as a way to let off some steam.  The speed of the car accelerated as Jessica began her nagging.

"How can you do this?!  And how dare you tell the bar owner to call me!  I'm not your girlfriend.  You're the person that I hate the most!  You're the stupid guy that let me go!  You're the reason why I'm so bitter!  I hate you, Kwon Jiyong.  I hate you," Jessica spat.

"No, y-you don't," Jiyong stuttered.

Jessica laughed hysterically, "Trust me!  I do hate you!  I will never fall for a guy like you again!  You embarrassed me in front of my whole family.  You raised my hopes and left me at the altar.  That was the cruelest thing that someone had done to me."

"You still love me," Jiyong claimed.

Jessica pressed on the brakes suddenly as the car came to an abrupt halt.  They were already in front of Jiyong's house.

"Get out," Jessica barked.

Jiyong didn't make any sudden movements.  Jessica became cautious as she realized that he could have faked the sleep talking act.  Jessica wanted to take back the words that she had just said.  She was foolish for thinking that he was sleep talking.  She thought that she should at least check if he was sleep talking or not.  She remembered how ticklish he was.  She began to tickle is abdomen lightly and he didn't even budge a smile.  He continued to sleep with his eyes closed.  Jessica sighed in relief to know that he really was sleeping talking.

Jessica stepped out of her car and opened the door to the passenger side.  She pulled Jiyong's hand to get him up, but he didn't move an inch.  He was too heavy for a girl like her.  With two hands, she began to lightly slap his face.

"Jiyong ah, stop being childish.  Go to your house.  I don't want to carry you," Jessica lectured.

He didn't move a single muscle as he continued to sleep in her passenger seat.  After several attempts, Jessica managed to swing his arm around her shoulder so that he would have support.  He became conscious enough to start walking with Jessica's help.  Although Jessica's heels were wobbling against the pavement, she managed to support him enough to make it to the front porch.

"Jiyong, where are your keys?" Jessica asked.

"Ah," he muttered inaudibly.

Jessica rolled her eyes at him as she took some satisfaction by punching him in the chest hard.

"I hope that bruises you tomorrow," Jessica hexed.

Jessica looked through his jacket pockets, but she couldn't find his keys.  Her heart almost stopped beating as she realized that his keys were deep in the front pockets of his jeans.  Jessica grunted after realizing that he was wearing ridiculously tight jeans.  She cringed as she began to search for his keys in his pockets.

"Ew, I never thought I would ever go near that again," Jessica referred to his crotch.

Jessica tried to distance her hand from any body parts that were unnecessary to touch, but she knew that her hand was near his crotch.  She smiled with satisfaction as she successfully pulled his keys out of his pocket.  She grinned as she unlocked his front door and entered the extravagant house.

She found the nearest sofa and set him there.

"Uh, I'll leave your keys next to the table and I'll just lock the door on my way out," Jessica told him.

"Don't go," he said.

Jiyong was starting to sober up, but he was more drunk than sober.  He stretched his hand out to Jessica and managed to grab her soft hand.  He pulled her in and began to hug her.  Jessica screamed loudly as he kissed her cheek.  She immediately pushed him away, but he pulled her in again.  Jessica couldn't help but let out tears as he hugged her.

She had to be honest and admit to herself that she missed his embrace.  She missed it when he would hug her when they'd watch scary movies, ride roller coasters, and when he said goodnight to her.  She quickly wiped the tears away with the sleeves to her sweater as she tried to push Jiyong away.

"Sica, I love you so much," he garbled.

"No...you don't love me.  You love Sandara...I'm just your wedding planner," Jessica told him.

Jiyong finally let her go as he laid on the couch with his arms over his head.  Jessica stood up quickly before he could pull her back into his embrace again.  She didn't want to get in the way of Sandara and Jiyong's relationship.  She didn't want to be labeled as a home wrecker.

Jiyong's final words made Jessica freeze like an icicle.  Her breathing stopped as those words escaped his lips.  It felt as if time had stopped for her.

"I don't love Dara.  You are the only woman that I have truly loved.  I still love you even after four years," Jiyong said before he finally fell into a deep slumber.

Jessica yelled out in frustration at his words.  There were so many questions running through her mind.  Why did he leave her in the altar if he truly loved her?  Why would he marry Sandara if he didn't love her?  Jessica kept on pushing it in her mind that he was drunk.  He didn't know what he was saying.  Jessica knew that he wouldn't even remember a single word that he said in the morning.  She thought it would be best if he didn't know what he had just told her.

Jessica left the house as her eyes cried out more tears.  She hadn't cried in the past three years.  The first year that Jiyong had left her, she cried at least a few times a week for one full year.  She forced herself to stop crying over him the next three years.  She touched her tears with her fingers and looked at the moistness on her fingertips.  She had not seen her own tears in so long.  She ran to her car and  began to drive home quickly.  Her phone rang and she knew that it was Yoona.

"Yoona ah," Jessica greeted as she tried to keep her voice stable.

"Unnie, are you crying?" Yoona asked.

Jessica tried laughing, "Of course not.  Why would I be crying?"

"Unnie...I know you're crying.  Just be honest or I'll come to your apartment right now to check on you!" Yoona threatened.

Jessica's tears began to pour like a waterfall.  Yoona felt remorse and pity for Jessica.  She hated it when she heard Jessica cry.

"He told me he still loves," Jessica bawled, "I don't want to believe it.  He was drunk."

"A drunk man's words are his sober thoughts," Yoona noted, "He's telling you what he's too scared to tell you when he's sober.  He's telling you his true feelings.  What if he still does really love you?  What if there's some twisted reason to why he's marrying Sandara?  There are people who marry other people for other reasons that don't include love.  I'm fortunate that I married Seunghyun for love, and I want you to be fortunate enough to marry someone for love, too.  I know you still love him.  What are you going to do now that you know that he still loves you?  Will you act as if he didn't confess his love for you at all or will you take action and fight for him?"
