Not my style

Catch a falling star

Jae Hee sat down on her bed, checking her SNS. She clicked on a new message that came from someone she didn’t know.

Merry Christmas!

Smile more. You look prettier when you do.

Jae Hee slammed her hand phone on her bed and stood up.

Jongup just messaged her. What to do? She bit her fingernail and paced in her room. Should I reply? She thought. But right after the thought crossed her mind, she shook her head.

No, you shouldn’t. Not when you know you’re on a different level with him Nam Jae Hee! She told herself.

She sat on her bed again and picked her phone. She read Jongup’s message again and turned her phone off. She rolled on her bed and hugged her pillow, shrieking. “He told me I’m pretty!” She squealed and hugged her pillow tighter.

She needs to sleep, she thought. But could she sleep when the thought of Jongup lingers on her mind?

-----------------

“Merry Christmas!” Someone shrieked on Jae Hee’s ear.

Jae Hee covered her face with her pillow. “Go destroy the peace in someone else’s household Park Minhee. It’s Christmas, make it your Christmas gift for me.” She murmured.

“We already bought you one. We can’t get you another.” Chanmin said, pulling the pillow off Jae Hee’s face.

Jae Hee sighed. “What now?”

Minhee jumped on her bed. “Get up! We have a surprise.” She pulled Jae Hee out of the bed.

Chanmin held out a brown envelope in front of Jae Hee. “It’s our Christmas gift. We know you wouldn’t get one yourself even if your life depended on it.”

Jae Hee unsealed the envelope and found a ticket inside. She read the contents and was surprised at what it says.

“It’s a ticket to B.A.P’s concert tomorrow.” Jae Hee stated at her friends.

“Exactly.” Minhee nodded.

“Why?” Jae Hee whined.

“What why?” Chanmin asked. “We’ll have to fan girl together, remember?”

“Can I not go?” Jae Hee pleaded.

Minhee looked like she was about to throttle her friend. “You will go whether you like it or not. We’ll pick you up tomorrow.” She grabbed Chanmin’s elbow, and went out of Jae Hee’s room.

-----------------

Tomorrow came too fast. Jae Hee couldn’t help but sulk.

So that was why Jongup was here with his friends: to have their concert. She couldn’t help but think about what Jongup thought of her. He must have thought she was an idiot for not knowing who he was.

Jae Hee rubbed her forehead and contemplated about how she would convince her friends to leave her alone. Should she tell them that her stomach aches?

“Don’t even think about faking an illness.” Minhee was standing on the doorway, her arms crossed on her chest. “We would just drag you out of here. Your mother already gave us permission to do so.”

“I’m not thinking about anything.” Jae Hee stood up and picked her bag.

“Good.” Minhee dragged her out of her room. “Cha’s getting impatient.”

“Omma, I’ll get going! Don’t wait for me, I may go home late.” Jae Hee told her mother while Minhee was dragging her to the door.

“Okay. Enjoy your selves.” Mrs. Nam waved at Jae Hee and her friends.

“Where are our gifts?” Minhee demanded while they were riding a bus to the concert.

“I left it at home.” Jae Hee stopped drawing patterns on the bus’ window and stared at the passing scenery.

“You’re sure you got us something?” Chanmin suspiciously asked Jae Hee.

“I’m sure.” Jae Hee nodded absentmindedly.

“Then why are you staring hard at the window looking like someone with mental disorder?”

Jae Hee gave Chanmin an I’m-fierce-don’t-you-dare-mess-with-me look.

Chanmin laughed out loud. “You don’t look fierce.”

“You don’t look fierce.” Jae Hee mimicked Chanmin.

“Chanmin?” A boy standing in front of Chanmin suddenly asked.

Chanmin looked up and smiled. “Minhyuk?” She curled her hair behind her ear. “Long time no see.” She told the boy, sounding shy.

Jae Hee looked at her friend in disbelief. Chanmin was a tiger cosplaying as a kitten. It doesn’t suit her, Jae Hee thought.

“Why are you giving me that look?” Chanmin broke Jae Hee’s train of thoughts.

Jae Hee looked around. “Where did that boy went?”

Minhee shrugged. “He already went away.”

“I was asking you why you were giving me that “glare” of yours.” Chanmin told Jae Hee, hands quoting in the air to emphasize the word glare.

“You were annoying me, and the next moment you were talking at a boy acting shy and cute.”

Minhee laughed. “You’re Snow White. We’re the evil sisters. You’re supposed to be annoyed.”

Jae Hee pinched Minhee’s ear. “Snow White is not my style. I’m Cinderella.”
