~part nineteen~

The Wallflower

The highlights of the rest of the weekdays were mostly Jess and I Facetiming about how we would sabotage. Today was Friday, and it was the last day of planning before the D-Day.

“Okay, so in the middle of the date, we have a “fight” and pretend that we can’t stand each other. Then, we have them come between us. You tell Jinyoung to deal with me, and I convince Jaehee to deal with you. Then, we get to know each other, and ‘poof!’ we’re all happy.” Jess said.

“I don’t know how I’m gonna pull all of this off, Jessica.” I said, worriedly.

“Don’t worry, Mark! I’m pretty sure at least a bit of Joey’s acting skills rubbed off on you!”

“Well, your sureness is wrong. I can’t act, and both of us know it.”

“I’m telling you now, if you mess this up, all of your chances with Jaehee will turn to dust in the wind. So I suggest you try your hardest and find a way to do it well.”

She ended the call there.

That night, as I lay in bed, I thought about how I was gonna do this. I was about to attempt to steal my friend’s almost girlfriend. They hadn’t suspected throughout the week, since Jessica was really good at hiding stuff and keeping secrets. Now it was just my part of the deal. If only I was born with great acting skills like Joey or Tammy, I wouldn’t even have to worry about being believable enough. Those two could lie their ways out of being assassinated if they wanted to.

I fell asleep that night, just hoping that everything would go as planned…

I woke up surprisingly early the next day. Maybe it was the anxiety? Wow. This was it. There was no backing out now. I lay there in bed, thoughts of worry swirling through my dyed red head.

What if it doesn’t work?

What if it doesn’t work out for me but does for Jess?

Am I interesting enough?

What if Jaehee just doesn’t see me that way?

What if I mess up?

I practically dragged myself out of bed and stood up to stretch, still trying to organize all of my thoughts and convince myself that it would be alright. Joey entered the room, freshly bathed.

“Hey, bro.” he greeted.

“I have a question. I suggest you sit down.”

He did as I said and sat on the edge of his bed. I did the same to mine. Since our beds were parallel to each other, we were facing each other.

“Okay, Joey. I need you to answer me with complete honesty. Do you understand me?”

“Yes.” He responded determinedly.

“Would you date me?” I said, seriously.

He kept a straight face for a moment , before bursting into a fit of giggles.

“What?! Why would you even ask that?” he said, wiping a few tears in his eyes.

“Yah!” I whined, “I’m being serious here!”

“Fine, fine, fine. But may I ask why you are asking me?” he said, still trying to hold his laughter in.

“I’m going on a date today, but not with the person I like. It’s a double date, really. But only, I’m going for the girl who isn’t my date. Pretty messed up, right?”

Somehow, he managed to get me to tell the whole story. I did, not missing out on any of the details.

“I don’t understand why you can’t just tell her straight instead of taking her away from your friend and risking your relationship?”

“Well, he already asked her out when I realized my feelings.”

“That’s really messed up, man.”

“I knoooow!!!” I fell back onto the soft bed covers.

I went down to have some breakfast. As usual, it was Oreo O’s. I couldn’t help but smile when I remembered how Jaehee likes the chocolate while I like the marshmallows. I started eating. Grace arrived in the middle of my meal, and immediately asked,

“What’s with that stupid smile on your face, baby bro?”

“Nothing.”

“Are you free later? I was thinking maybe we could go watch X-men in the cinemas later with Joey and Tammy.”

“Nahhh, I can’t. I have a double date.”

The spoon she was about to put in stopped midway.

“What?!” she dropped the utensil back into her bowl and stood up.

“You have a date?!”

I nodded.

“Ohmygod!” she said and ran to the bottom of the staircase, “Tams! Get your down here! Mark is going on a date and he didn’t even tell us!”

We ended up sitting in the living room, with them in front of me.

“Who is she?” Tammy asked.

“Well, it’s complicated, really.”

I ended up telling them the whole story as well and about how I think it was gonna end up a huge fiasco.

“Oh, baby bro, it’s alright! We’ve got your back. And we support you and your relationship with her. She’ll definitely fall for you!” they encouraged.

“Aigoo,” Tammy said, “my baby is all grown up now and is going after girls! I still remember you having your very first apple!”

“C’mon, Marky!” Grace said and pulled on my arm. She hasn’t called me that since I was 8.

“We’re gonna help you out! Let us dress you up for today! I’m sure Jaehee won’t be able to take her eyes off of you!” Tammy added.

They went through my entire wardrobe, much to my dismay, and looked through Joey’s as well. They were totally serious about everything they said. By lunch time, they had my outfit all planned out. It was a black sweater that had “GG$” and a few more designs printed out on it, a pair of distressed jeans, and my favourite brown lace-up boots. They even said they would style my hair for me.

Eventually, 5 p.m. rolled around, and that meant it was time to get ready. I got dressed  and was about to head out, when a hand stopped me. I spun around and saw my 2 siblings.

“Where do you think you’re going looking like that, mister?” Tammy said, impatiently.

I looked down at my outfit. It looked okay.

“Out?” I replied.

“Don’t you remember? We’re styling your hair!” Grace said.

“I’m gonna be late! There’s no time for that!” I tried to escape from their death grip.

“Grace, go get the hair gel and styling comb from our dresser. I’ll make sure he doesn’t leave.”

She followed my sister’s orders and was back in no later than 30 seconds.

Grace held onto me, ensuring that I couldn’t leave, while Tammy was busy fixing my hair.

It was actually over pretty quickly. I looked at my reflection in the mirror across the hall. I didn’t look half bad. It was just styled up neatly. It made me appear as if I wanted to look good, but not over the top.

“Aw! See? You look 10 times better now!” Grace exclaimed.

Tammy wiped a non-existent tear from her eye, “they grow up so fast!”

“Good luck, Mark! Fighting!” they said as they walked me to the door.

I was feeling nervous as ever.

I picked Jessica up from her house and we grabbed a taxi so we could get to the movie theatre where we would meet up with the other two.

On the way there, all we did was review the plans to make sure they were fool proof

Once we arrived, we started walking to the café where we planned to meet up. We were fairly early, so we decided to seat ourselves down first and order ourselves some drinks. Jess got her usual Matcha Latte, while I got a Double Vanilla Tea Latte. We were just talking casually, when Jess stopped halfway through her sentence. She looked like she was staring at something behind me. I spun around and sure enough, there were the two people we were waiting for. Jaehee, though. She looked so beautiful. She curled the tips of her hair and pinned her hair into a half ponytail, held by a pretty bow. She was in a white sleeveless dress that looked as if it was flowing around her legs.

It was then that I realized… I needed to do well today.

A/N: Okay, I think this story is nearing its end. So sad :(

BUT, I am planning on writing a sequel, and I already have a rough idea of what's gonna be in it. I don't think I'll update the sequel as much as I update this one, though.

I hope you guys liked this chapter, and have you guys seen the pic of Mark eating his first apple? If you haven't, here it is:

This cutie is just so ugh!

'Til tomorrow's update then, 나의 babies!

XOXO,
