~part thirteen~

The Wallflower

After lunch, we all headed our separate ways. Jinyoung and Jaebum headed off to AP Calculus, Youngjae and Jackson walked to their Biology together, the two maknaes had English class next, and Jessica, Jaehee, and I went to my least favourite class, History.

We were walking down the hallways together, when I asked, “Hey Jess, what did you get for your schedule? I hope they went easy on you.”

“Oh. They definitely did. They gave me the exact same sched as Jaehee over here. The principal wanted me to be able to talk and communicate, so since I knew Jaehee and talked to her often, they had her be my translator, and my tutor if things got too difficult. They said she was an ‘exemplary student.’”

“Wow. Jaehee? An exemplary student? Ha. Yeah, right.” I snorted.

“Well, Mr. I-don’t-have-my-History-homework-so-I-need-yours, I don’t think you’re doing any better than I am.”

“Actually, Mark, have you seen her in AP Calc? Gosh. She was so amazing! I got put into Advanced Placement since she’s there but I’m barely passing regular math, even when it’s in English.” Jessica sighed.

“It’s okay, Jessica. I’m pretty sure Mr. Smarty Pants over here can help you,” Jaehee joked before walking off to our classroom.

Jaehee took a seat near the middle of the classroom. As if by default, Jessica went over and sat in the one next to her.

“Hey, Mark! Come! Sit next to me so if ever I get too confused, you can help Jaehee explain it to me.” Jessica called

“Nahhh. It’s alright. I usually sit in the very back of the classroom.” I declined.

“Yeah. It’s because all he does in this class is sleep and not pay attention.” Jaehee said.

“Really? Is that true, Mark?” Jessica asked.

“Yup. I really don’t like this class. I never have, and I never will.”

“That’s because you don’t try hard enough. Once you do, you actually start to see the fun in it and you also will start learning stuff.” Jaehee looked at me.

“Fine. But just for today.” I complied, and took my seat next to Jess.

Dismissal rolled around, and I headed out of Art class to meet up with Jessica, Joey, and Jaehee near the school doors. Apparently, the two girls were coming home with us, as well. I guess that means that I can’t hang out with Jinyoung after school anymore.

I got there and noticed that I was the second to arrive. Jaehee and Jessica weren’t there yet. Maybe they got caught up in class. My brother was leaning against the stair railings.

“Hey, bro. How was your class?” I asked as we did our little handshake. We made it when I was 12 and he was 10. We just never grew out of it, I guess.

“Boring. Yours?” He looked at me.

“Same.”

“I saw that Jaehee and Jessica really sat at your lunch table.”

“Yup. The guys seem to really like them.” I said.

“Really? Even Jaehee? And yes, I know she confessed to him. I overheard you guys talking about it once.”

“Well, All of the guys, excluding Jinyoung, seem to be pretty okay around the girls, and it’s actually not the awkward kind of friendly. It doesn’t even look forced at all. It’s as if they truly want to be friends with them.” I explained.

“How did Jinyoung hyung take Jaehee’s new look? Did it work?” Joey raised an eyebrow.

“I think it did. But I don’t really know. It’s almost as if he seemed shocked by her new look, like it happened so quick. He actually blushed and was flustered, and all.” I said, ponderingly.

“Well, yeah. That is pretty weird. Maybe you should ask him what’s up. He is your best friend, after all.” Joey suggested.

“Maybe I will.”

“Hey guys!” I heard a familiar voice call, and looked up. Jessica was waving her hand in the air while walking to where we were, with Jaehee tagging along behind her.

“Auntie isn’t here yet?” Jaehee asked.

I shrugged my shoulders.

“Nah. Mom texted me and said that she stopped for gas, but she’s on her way.” Joey said.

As if on cue, our familiar silver BMW X3 pulled up onto the school’s driveway. Mom got out of the car and proceeded to open the trunk door for us. We put our bags in and sat in our respective seats.

“How was school?” Mom looked at us through the mirror.

“Fine.”

“Great!”

“Boring!”

“Alright!”

All four of us replied in sync. The car ride home was silent after that. After dropping the girls off, we headed back home and I got out of the car, excited to feel the soft fluff of my bed against my body.

It was after dinner, and I was laying in bed in my pyjamas, just reflecting on the day. My mind was occupied by how Jinyoung reacted to the new Jaehee. There was something really off about the way he was so flustered despite telling her only the week before how she wasn’t his type.

I grabbed my phone and scrolled through my contacts and stopped on Jinyoung’s name. I pondered for a moment on whether or not I should really ask him or not. I made up my mind, and pressed’ Call.’

It was ringing for a few seconds, I thought he might have been busy studying. Maybe I should just as—

“Hello?” my friend’s voice spoke from the other line.

A/N: Omg this chapter is short af to be honest! It's like, a hundred words shorter than usual :(((
