Breathing deeply, Jongin stirred underneath queen-sized sheets as the sun outside cast white light through the open blinds of the window. Though his eyes were drawn shut, heavy with sleep, the boy was lucid enough to know that he had slept in.
Again.
There wasn’t anything particularly unusual about the observation. Jongin could sleep in without a care in the world, disregarding his obligations and even the most basic of necessities—at least when he was on his own.
Thing was, Jongin wasn’t alone.
Beside him, bundled in the same sheets he was in, lied Soojung, dark hair tousled, cheek pillowed into the palm of her hand, and almond eyes fully closed despite the golden rays shining on her face. Propping himself up against his elbow, Jongin rubbed his eyes open and peeked at her from the back of his hand. She looked so peaceful when she was asleep. Calm. Undisturbed. Younger, even—if that were possible.
Soojung had always made a huge fuss over Jongin seeing her face in the morning. It never really mattered to him what she looked like as long as she was his. She’d always be beautiful in his eyes, no matter what time of day it was, no matter the season, no matter the age.
“Rise and shine, princess,” he spoke softly, his breath ticking the shell of her ear.
A crooked grin found its place on Jongin’s face as Soojung’s brows pinched together for split-second, an indiscernible whimper escaping between her thin pink lips. Laughing quietly, he leaned forward and pressed his lips against her temple, thinking it would finally wake her up but ultimately surprised when it didn’t. Soojung only moved closer to him, tucking her head underneath his chin and burying her face against his shirt.
“Aren’t you ready to get up?”
Soojung shook her head.
“But it’s already half-past twelve.”
Soojung mumbled, “Just five more minutes…” to which Jongin took with a look of slight surprise.
He then shrugged; confused, but more than happy to grant themselves a few more minutes of lying in bed. He wrapped his arms around her, breathing her in, holding her close, and smiling when she snuggled comfortably in his embrace.
“Five more minutes,” he said.
And by the time Jongin closed his eyes, he knew that if he were given the chance to spend the rest of his life lying here, next to Soojung, he would take it. He would spend the rest of eternity here if he could.
No questions asked.
author's note: This drabble was partially inspired by what Kai said about where he would like to bring his girlfriend if he had one. And if you've been on tumblr for the past week, you'll know that he said something along the lines of "I'd like to bring her into my arms." Can you say cheeeese? I kinda forget that despite his stage aura, Kai can be a really, really romantic and cheesy guy. At least, he wants to be. Like he anticipates on being a good guy to his girl /cough/Krystal/cough/, and despite my love-hate relationship with the turd, I think it's really sweet.
Most of my writing energy is going into To Be Brave, so updates here will be small for the next few weeks ^^;; But, before I sign off, I'd like to greet you guys a Happy Easter! As a Christian, I think what Jesus did on the cross should be celebrated every day, but you know - 'TIS THE SEASON. That's typically said during Christmas, but right now I'm too happy to think up anything else xD I hope you all had an awesome week, and I'll see you again next Friday! - Ella
