Fade

According to everything he knew about Jaejoong and how the week worked with everyone the boy had dated before, Yunho should have been on their last day. The following day should be when Jaejoong shows him his chest and says the name is gone and so is Yunho. Considering that, Yunho should have been doing everything possible to have the best last day ever. Unfortunately, he doubted he was even going to see Jaejoong. Stupid family bonding time.

Once a month, Yunho’s mother decided that it was time for the family to ‘catch up’ on each other lives. They spent the majority of whatever day she chose, being together and doing whatever she wanted. Today it just so happened to be the same park that he’d been at the day before.

It wasn’t that Yunho hated family time. On most of the days that they did this, he was all for catching up with his little sister and joking around with his parents. Today just wasn’t the day he wanted to be doing it. Originally he’d asked if it would be okay for him to invite along a friend, but his mother had shut that down. Her words were ‘when you’re married you can bring them along’. There hadn’t been a point in asking his father after that. No one went against his umma.

Since he couldn’t spend physical time with Jaejoong, Yunho sent him texts. Mostly he just told the other senior that he was spending the day with his family and had asked if Jaejoong could come, too, but that he was shot down. Jaejoong had only sent him a smiley face and told him that spending time with his family was important. Yunho wanted to argue that spending time with Jaejoong was important, too, but he didn’t know if that would be overstepping some sort of bounds he wasn’t aware of.

Could he say that flattery stuff to Jaejoong without it coming across as cheesy or desperate? Especially if today was supposed to be his last day being Jaejoong’s boyfriend. Those were the thoughts that held Yunho back from saying anything to the boy he was dating about how much his feelings had grown over the week. It was hard to voice them considering he didn’t know if they’d be taken seriously. Jaejoong surely had people throw themselves at his feet after their time was up to ask for more. Yunho wouldn’t be one of them. If all Jaejoong wanted come the next day was friendship, then Yunho would take what he could get. Somehow, he’d fight down the jealousy of seeing Jaejoong go through person after person.

At least, that’s how he reassured himself as he kept up the conversation between and his boyfriend via text while still keeping a conversation going with his parents and his sister about school and if his plans had changed for the future. The only thing that had changed in his life was Jaejoong, but Yunho wasn’t about to tell his family he was dating a boy. He wasn’t gay, he just really liked Jaejoong. He’d only tell them if he knew it was going to last past midnight.

When his mom finally decided that they could go home, Yunho had to force himself to sit through their late night supper before excusing himself to his room. Homework came first, Yunho knew that he’d regret not getting what he had done before he did anything else. Unfortunately-like most of his day had already been-the night had set in by the time he was done.

Still, the overwhelming need to see Jaejoong and assure himself that the week being over meant nothing, Yunho slipped out of his quiet house. His parents being in bed meant that they didn’t need to know that he was going out for a bit. It wasn’t like he was going far. Jaejoong only lived a few blocks down.

Slipping his phone from his pocket, Yunho dialed the familiar number that he’d memorized earlier that week. Jaejoong’s sleepy voice sounded like heaven coming through his speaker.

                “Hello?”

“Jae? Did I wake you?”

                “Yunho?”

Chuckling, Yunho couldn’t bring himself to regret calling Jaejoong or what he was currently on his way to do. “Yeah, it’s me. Hey, do you think you could slip outside for a bit?”

There was some shuffling noise from Jaejoong’s side of the phone before the boy answered Yunho’s question.

                “Now?”

This human being was beyond cute when he was sleepy and Yunho couldn’t even see him. “Yeah, you don’t have to. I’m just walking around and I’m going to go past your house. I figured that since I couldn’t see you today, I would see if you’d come out for a bit. I promise not to keep you for long.”

Whether Jaejoong could tell that Yunho was feeling a little desperate or not, the boy didn’t show it. Instead, Yunho heard more movement before a quiet sigh.

“Yeah, I’ll be out in a minute. My parents are already asleep.”

Grinning because he wouldn’t let himself think of anything but how happy he was that Jaejoong agreed to come down, Yunho ruffled his hair with his hand. “Yeah, mine too. See you in a bit.”

Jaejoong didn’t respond to that as the phone call ended. Yunho wasn’t too worried about the lack of a response considering that he’d be seeing the other in a matter of seconds. When the front door finally opened, Yunho had to take a second to remember how to breathe. If he thought Jaejoong sounded cute when he was sleepy, it was nothing to how the boy looked with obvious bedhead and tired eyes that he rubbed in the most adorable way while he yawned.

Not expecting the visit, and definitely not awake for it, Jaejoong shuffled out his front door and let it shut behind him. “Hey.”

“Hey.” Somehow, he’d found a way to make a sound while have no oxygen in his body. Currently, all his bodily functions were on damage control. Nothing was working. Especially his heart. In that span of a few seconds, Yunho finally understood that this was so much more than a crush. Pretending to not be jealous in the future wouldn’t be as easy as he’d been telling himself all day long. He wanted to know how many others had seen Jaejoong like this, but the question wouldn’t fall from his lips. Yunho refused to allow it to escape. Instead, he took a much needed gulp of air before smiling. “Cute pajamas.”

Blushing a bit, Jaejoong decided that his disregard of his appearance in an attempt to get out the door faster to see Yunho was a bad choice. Especially if his Pokémon pajamas had anything to say about it. “They’re comfortable.”

Taking a step closer, Yunho could see that Jaejoong definitely wore them a lot. “I believe it. My Pikachu ones are almost completely worn through.”

                “Don’t tease me!”

                “I’m being serious!”

Jaejoong couldn’t help but pout as he moved forwards to push against Yunho’s chest. Stupid idiot making him feel all kinds of things. “Shut up.”

Laughing, Yunho caught the other male in his arms. The embrace was nowhere near platonic, but Jaejoong wasn’t pulling away. In fact, he was snuggling closer to Yunho’s chest. Right where Yunho wanted him to be. “I really am being serious. I have some, too. I’ll show you some other time.”

Unable to help but laugh, Jaejoong refused to think about what Yunho had just said and the implications that came along with that statement. It meant they would last longer than tonight. It meant that the week didn’t have to end. Jaejoong had always done the breaking up, but Yunho had started the week to give Jaejoong a break from everyone else. The following day could return them to how they’d been a week ago. Jaejoong didn’t want that. He just didn’t know how to prevent it. “So why are you here?”

“I told you I was taking a walk.”

“Past my house? Are you stalking me now?”

Yunho couldn’t help but sly smirk that made its way onto his mouth. “I wasn’t going to say anything but your new sheets look great from that tree.”

Shoving the other boy without leaving his embrace, Jaejoong laughed. “That’s not even my window!”

Pulling the other male back to where he was, Yunho chuckled along with the other. “I’m still new at this. Thanks for the info.”

Jaejoong wanted to ask again why Yunho had come to see him so late at night, but he suddenly found himself not caring. Why should it matter the reason? Yunho was there. “You’re warm.”

                “It’s not that cold out.”

“I got out of my warm bed for you. Be nice and lend me your heat.”

Gladly. Yunho would gladly lend it to Jaejoong any time he wanted it. “Fine, fine. Take it.”

Sighing in content, Jaejoong pressed harder against Yunho’s firm chest. He didn’t want this to be gone.

Unaware of what the other male was thinking, Yunho held the quiet boy closer to himself. “Hey Jae.”

                “Hmmm.”

“If I kissed you right now, would you push me away?”

Freezing in the embrace, Jaejoong hesitated to look up. Part of him was afraid he was going to suddenly wake up in his bed and learn that he’d been dreaming and Yunho had never called him and part of him was scared that he’d look up to find that Yunho had just been teasing him. “What?”

From the other’s body language, Yunho knew that he was about to be rejected. “I’m sorry, was that too forward? Changmin said that you don’t kiss people, but I figured it was worth a chance to ask because if I don’t then I might never get the chance and I like you so I was hoping that you might like me back and-“

That was all Jaejoong needed to hear before he lifted his head from its spot on Yunho’s chest to connect their lips and cut the other boy’s rambling off. Fireworks must have been going off in the distance because there was no way that the booms that shook his whole body were coming from his heart.

It wasn’t until Yunho’s arms brought him closer to deepen the kiss that Jaejoong realized that it hadn’t been his heart making those sounds. It was Yunho’s.

Chapter 9: Here again for the second time^^ I had an urge to read this story like really bad for many days but I forgot it's title as I read it many years back.. I had to go through each of my subscription to find this piece of art and I'm more than glad I did! I fell in love with 'Yunjae's love' in this story when I read it for the first time and I'm sure that I'll be forever in love after reading it for the second time. .. I think I'll find myself here again and again in the future! I must say this story has a charm that doesn't allows your mind to forget about it.
