Fade

Changmin had never seen his hyung in such a state. Yunho was typically a quiet person, yes, but never like this. The older boy always had a type of confident silence around him. Like, there was no noise because Yunho didn’t want noise. This wasn’t even close to that. This was silence due to nervousness. Changmin couldn’t even begin to fathom what was causing it. “Hyung?”

Releasing a rather large breath that had begun to burn his lungs, Yunho gave a weak smile before running his hand through his hair. “Umm… Can I ask you something?”

Lifting one eyebrow, Changmin studied the male before him. “Depends.”

It was now or never. “It’s about Jaejoong.”

He should have known. “What about him?”

his lips, Yunho’s eyes darted out the window of the small café he’d met Changmin in. Since when was his mouth so dry? Yunho took a sip of his water before he asked the question hanging on the tip of his tongue. “When you guys… dated, did he ever… I mean… What was the furthest… uh…?”

Changmin should have taken pity on the boy sitting across from him, however, seeing Yunho in such a state was rare and Changmin was going to enjoy it while he could. “What are you asking, hyung?”

“How far is Jaejoong willing to go with the person he dates each week?”

That one eyebrow he had raised before went back up his forehead. “Are asking me if Jaejoong will have with you? Why aren’t you asking him that?”

Spluttering, Yunho knew that this was a bad idea. “I just kissed him on the cheek last night when I gave him a hug goodbye and I wanted to know if he let everyone do that sort of stuff or if…”

Even with Yunho trailing off and turning bright red, Changmin understood. “You want to know if you’re special.”

Yunho nodded while not being able to find his voice. The sudden anxiety he felt made him want to run home and cry.

Scratching at the side of his chin, Changmin thought over the question. He knew the answer already, of course, but that didn’t mean he wanted to answer quickly. A suffering Yunho was an entertaining Yunho. What sort of best friend would he be if he passed up the chance to make his friend suffer? “We never even held hands. I think most people that date Jaejoong don’t. He’s had girls and boys tug him around and hang off his arms, but never hold his hand. I’ve seen him get kissed on the cheek, but it’s always with a cold indifference and it never goes further than that. He dodges kisses aimed for his lips. That’s a rule that he’s adamant about. He won’t kiss you if he doesn’t feel anything for you.”

Relief flooded Yunho’s system although it was short lived. Jaejoong accepted kisses on his cheek. Yunho wasn’t any different from the other people the beautiful male had dated. “So I’m not special.”

“Are you kidding me!? Hyung! Have you seen the way Jaejoong smiles when he’s around you? I’ve never seen him do that before. It’s actually kind of nice to know he isn’t made out of stone. Even when we were dating, he was always silent and withdrawn. Besides, didn’t you just hear what I said? Jaejoong is used to people dragging him around to show him off. You haven’t done that.”

That part was true. Yunho didn’t see Jaejoong as some shiny object that should be bragged about. The boy was funny and witty and beautiful. Man, Yunho used that adjective to describe the other male a lot. Unfortunately, he couldn’t say he only did so in his head. “I guess…”

Changmin let out a sigh before rubbing his face with both hands. His hyung was definitely an idiot. “Well, while you’re guessing, I’m going to go meet Karam so we can play in the park like we planned.”

                “Jaejoong is coming today, too.”

“All the more reason for us to go meet them.”

There wasn’t a way for Yunho to argue with the younger boy as he left. Instead, he just followed his dongsaengs path. The park they were supposed to meet the other two in wasn’t far away from where Yunho had asked Changmin to meet him. Though he wasn’t completely satisfied after their talk, Yunho did feel a bit better. He and Jaejoong had a friendship that set him apart from everyone else. Now Yunho just had to decide if it was worth risking that friendship for the possibility of something more.

Smiling, not because he felt like he should but because the sight of Jaejoong made him happy, Yunho approached the boy scuffing his shoe against the ground. “You’ll ruin them that way.”

Jumping, Jaejoong looked up to blink at Yunho a couple of times before finding his ability to breathe. He was startled because he’d been snuck up on, yes, but that wasn’t the full reason for his inability to pull oxygen into his lungs. “They’ll be fine.”

“Don’t come crying to me when you’ve got holes in your shoes.”

Crossing his arms and leaning back slightly, Jaejoong looked the other boy dead in the eyes. “When should I come crying to you then?”

Matching the pose, Yunho held back his grin. “When you need a hug or for me to beat the out of someone.”

Jaejoong couldn’t help but laugh at that. “Okay then. Deal.”

Taking a second to just watch the other boy laugh, Yunho let his eyes wander over Jaejoong. He really was beautiful. Blonde hair suited the other male, though Yunho was adamant that he’d never look good with it. The shirt Jaejoong had chosen for the day was a v cut. If it was just a little lower, Yunho would be able to see his name over Jaejoong’s heart. “Shall we go in?”

Meeting Yunho’s gaze, Jaejoong couldn’t keep the smile off his lips. “What about Changmin and Karam?”

“If we spend time with them then all we’re going to see is them making out. Come on, let’s go leaf gazing.”

Smile only widening as Yunho took his hand, Jaejoong allowed himself to be led into the park. “What’s leaf gazing?”

Laughing, Yunho tugged the other so that Jaejoong was walking beside him rather than behind him. “I’ll show you.”

After a few minutes of walking further into the park, Jaejoong started to wonder where they were going. “You aren’t just trying to get me alone, are you?”

“Damn, you caught me. I guess you know my ulterior motives now.”

Smacking Yunho with his free hand, Jaejoong couldn’t help but snort as he laughed. The noise was completely unattractive but all Yunho did was smile at him for it. “I knew it.”

Shaking his head, Yunho finally picked a good looking tree and dragged Jaejoong over to it. “Come on, let’s get gazing.”

“I still don’t see the point of this.”

Rather than trying to explain, Yunho simply pulled the other male down so that they were lying side by side on their backs beneath the tree. The shade was perfect so they wouldn’t get too hot while the warmth of the air kept them from getting too cold. Watching the sun filter down through the leaves of the tree was a beautiful sight.

Turning to the side to say something to his gazing partner, Yunho lost his ability to form words as he took in the sight of Jaejoong smiling up at the tree branches. The boy looked genuinely happy and oh so beautiful under the flickering sunlight. Yunho really needed to come up with another word to describe Jaejoong, but beautiful just worked.

“This is so lovely, Yunho. Thanks.”

Yunho really wanted to say that Jaejoong was the lovely one, but that seemed a bit too forward. Instead, Yunho gave a soft hum and returned his gaze to the leaves only to have it drawn back to Jaejoong. He was beyond pleased that Jaejoong didn’t find him weird for doing something as strange as they were. The moments they spent together under that tree were perfect.

The only thing that marred their precious moments were when Yunho’s gaze flickered downwards. His eyes were pulled by the sight of Jaejoong’s shirt wrinkling in the oddest way across his chest. The fold gave Yunho the ability to see a bit more pale skin. It also let him see that his name was quickly fading from the other’s body. His time was almost up.

Chapter 9: Here again for the second time^^ I had an urge to read this story like really bad for many days but I forgot it's title as I read it many years back.. I had to go through each of my subscription to find this piece of art and I'm more than glad I did! I fell in love with 'Yunjae's love' in this story when I read it for the first time and I'm sure that I'll be forever in love after reading it for the second time. .. I think I'll find myself here again and again in the future! I must say this story has a charm that doesn't allows your mind to forget about it.
