Fade

They were only eating out together after school. This was only two friends getting a snack before going home. At least, that’s what Jaejoong repeatedly told himself while he and Yunho walked along a sunny sidewalk. The two boys were still smiling from the joking they were doing together as they walked along. Still, Jaejoong couldn’t help but let his eyes slide down to where Yunho’s hand swung empty between them.

The feeling of wanting to hold someone else’s hand was new to Jaejoong. Usually, during his weeklong dating experiments, he put up with whatever affection the other person wanted to a point. Being with the other male he was with was Jaejoong’s first time wanting something he didn’t know if he could have.

Yunho, on the other hand, wasn’t thinking so much about holding Jaejoong’s hand as he was about what he was going to get to eat at the convenience store they were going to. Writing his name on the other boy’s chest was probably one of the best things he could have done. The friend he got out of the whole ordeal was worth everything. Seeing Jaejoong laugh like he truly found something funny made Yunho happy as well.

Maybe, after their week was up, Yunho could convince the slightly older male-he was still a bit put off by the fact that Jaejoong’s birthday was just days before his-to remain good friends with him. A friendship was cheating.

Working up his courage, Jaejoong went to hold Yunho’s hand just as the other boy lifted it to point something out. Glad that the missed grab wasn’t noticed, Jaejoong looked to where Yunho was pointing.

“I’m telling you, Jae. This place has the best frozen treats around. How come you’ve never been here if you live so close?”

Another fact that Yunho discovered the day before was that Jaejoong lived only a few blocks from him. Something that had him wondering how he’d never noticed the other when going to and from school. A question that he’d voiced and discovered that Jaejoong usually received a ride from his parents. One that he was willing to give up to walk with Yunho that afternoon.

Recognizing the place, Jaejoong nodded once before turning back to the boy that was still smiling at him. “I’ve been in there a couple of times, but not for much.”

Being that they lived as close as they did, Yunho hoped that they’d be able to meet at his particular place in the future. He definitely enjoyed hanging out with Jaejoong. “Well, then you’re in for a treat.”

                “Did you just..?”

“What? Can’t keep up with my epic sense of humor?”

The way that Yunho was absolutely smug about his lame joke-they were there to get frozen treats and man the younger boy was lame-Jaejoong couldn’t help but double over in laughter. His cheeks ached from all his smiling.

Yunho pouted as he watched Jaejoong practically die in front of him. This was just ridiculous, the joke wasn’t even that funny, but seeing Jaejoong laugh like made a sense of pride fill him. He did that. He made Jaejoong that happy. He made that boy laugh so hard his face turned red from lack of air and tears rimmed his eyes. The Jaejoong he was looking at now was completely different than the one he’d seen crouched on the school grounds just a few days ago. Yunho decided he liked the change. “Oh come on, I know I’m hilarious, but it wasn’t that funny.”

in breath after agonizing breath, Jaejoong managed to get a hold on himself long enough answer Yunho before cracking up again. “You! I’m laughing at you!”

His pout only deepened, but Yunho found that he didn’t mind being laughed at by someone so beautiful. “Yeah, yeah. Come on. Let’s go.”

Jaejoong only stopped when Yunho’s hand enclosed around his own. A few giggles continued to leak out of his mouth as the approached the small store, but he could finally breathe again. Though his heart was doing a weird thing in his chest as he was being pulled along by the taller boy. “What are you getting?”

Not realizing how warm it was outside until they were in the cheap air-conditioning of the store, Yunho shrugged after dropping Jaejoong’s hand. “Whatever looks good. You can pick anything you want. I’ll buy.”

Looking away so that Yunho wouldn’t notice that the pink left in his cheeks wasn’t from his laughing fit, Jaejoong studied the items behind the glass door before them. He’d never really had time to indulge in junk food since his mom was a bit of a nut about eating healthy. That and the people that he dated thought he hated this type of stuff since he never had any. Jaejoong supposed that the flutters in his chest weren’t the only thing new he was experiencing with Yunho. “What do you usually get?”

“Hmmm, those frozen candy bars are really good, but sometimes the chocolate gets messy if you don’t eat them fast enough. I think I’ll get one of these today.”

Jaejoong simply hummed as he watched Yunho take out a plastic covered treat that had a picture of an ice cream cone on the front. The treat looked good, but Jaejoong really wanted to try something that Yunho liked, so he picked a frozen snickers as his after school snack. “I’ll try this one.”

                “Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

The teasing grin that Jaejoong received along with those words was enough to make him give the other boy a gentle shove. Stupid Yunho needed to stop. “Whatever. I’ll eat it properly.”

Yunho simply laughed before paying for the two ice creams and pulling Jaejoong outside. Ice cream tasted better when you ate it somewhere warm. That and he didn’t particularly like the way the store clerk had been looking at Jaejoong. “Hey, what are you doing tomorrow after school?”

Breaking open the wrapper surrounding his treat, Jaejoong looked over at Yunho just as he bit into the ice cream. He shrugged due to the chocolate and caramel in his mouth.

Forcing himself to breathe, Yunho his lips before managing to get his eyes back to his cone. The ice cream and chocolate were already starting to melt. “Tomorrow night isn’t a school night. Want to go see a movie? I mean, if you don’t have homework or anything.”

Swallowing quickly, Jaejoong grinned at the other boy as Yunho a ring around the top of his cone. The action had the blonde swallowing again before he managed to find his voice. “I’m not doing anything. That new movie just came out and I wouldn’t mind seeing it.”

“Okay, great.” Yunho managed to get those two words out of his mouth before he was rendered speechless again. Watching Jaejoong slurp up bits of chocolate and ice cream was doing weird things to him. Maybe they should have stayed inside the cool store after all. The side walk suddenly felt too hot. “Jae.”

The breathless way his name was said had Jaejoong pausing in his attempt to get some of the chocolate off his fingers. His eyes met Yunho’s and he found himself stuck. “What?”

Yunho couldn’t drag his eyes away from the way Jaejoong at his lips. “You have chocolate there.”

“Where?” Jaejoong ran his tongue along his lips again in order to get rid of the brown substance that shouldn’t have been there. “Did I get it?”

Shaking his head, Yunho about died when Jaejoong tried and failed for a third time to get rid of the sugary substance near his lips. The sight was doing something strange to him, which is why Yunho decided to help the other boy out. Carefully, he reached up to wipe the chocolate away with his thumb. Without thinking, he it off his finger before diving back into his quickly melting cone. “There.”

Jaejoong couldn’t move for a few seconds. His face began to heat up again and he turned slightly away so that Yunho wouldn’t notice and so that he didn’t have to watch the other boy at his cone. “Thanks.”

“What time do you want to go? Tomorrow, I mean?”

“Oh, uh, it doesn’t matter. I don’t have anything to do after school.”

They set up a time but didn’t talk much as Yunho walked Jaejoong to his door for a second day in a row. The plan was to return to their houses after school to change and then go get something to eat again before seeing the movie. Not until after Yunho was already walking away from Jaejoong’s house with a smile on his lips did he think that just maybe being Jaejoong’s friend wasn’t enough.

Chapter 9: Here again for the second time^^ I had an urge to read this story like really bad for many days but I forgot it's title as I read it many years back.. I had to go through each of my subscription to find this piece of art and I'm more than glad I did! I fell in love with 'Yunjae's love' in this story when I read it for the first time and I'm sure that I'll be forever in love after reading it for the second time. .. I think I'll find myself here again and again in the future! I must say this story has a charm that doesn't allows your mind to forget about it.
