“So why are you in Sealy?” he asked, being curious again.

I sipped my coffee. It was caramel, and its warmth singed my tongue. “Just visiting. I grew up here.”

He nodded, looking fascinated. “Do you come here often?”

“Why all the questions?” I smiled slightly at him.

“Just curious. I can’t quite figure you out yet.”

“Am I that ambiguous? “ I said.

He narrowed his eyes and put a finger to his chin. “Hmmm.” He said. “Yes.”

I laughed. “Yes, I come here almost every month.”

“What do you do here?”

“Enough about me, how about you? Who is Choi Minho.”

He laughed, sitting back in his chair and sipping his coffee. “Ask me something.”

“Right. Okay, where were you born?”

“Seoul.”

“Really? Like…South Korea?”

“Yes. I loved it there.”

“Then why are you here?”

“Studying abroad. To be a teacher here would be my dream. I really like this country, too. But sometimes I miss Korea.”

I nodded. He was interesting. “So how old are you?” I asked.

He shook his head. “That isn’t important.”

“Why not?!”

“Because, it is completely irrelevant to our conversation.”

I laughed. He was weird. “How?”

“We were talking about hometowns, and now age? No no no. Okay my turn. Wha do you do here?”

I sighed, looking down, then sipping my drink. “Do you really want to know?”

“Yes.”

“Fine, then you have to come with me.”

He smiled hugely and laughed. “Deal.”

“I won’t have my child stuck in the house all the time because of your mistakes!”

“It’s just until I get things figured out.” Soyeon’s father said.

“What is there to figure out. We’re WANTED, honey. They have cops looking for us in every state. I can’t even go outside without worrying. I just want her to ride her bike outside. But if I do, I have to worry about who’s watching, who can see me. If they find me, they find you. And then it’s the end of us all.”

He sat down, rubbing his face. “I didn’t want for it to be like this.”

“I know, but it’s your fault. Now fix it.” Soyeon’s mother stormed off.
