Chapter Two

eleven : eleven

“Are you rich?”

“Is Seoul Academy awesome?”

“Why did you transfer?”

The moment first block was over, majority of the class rushed to Kyungsoo’s desk and bombarded the poor boy with various questions. Some which Kyungsoo didn’t want to answer. He gulped and politely answered each question with a timid smile.

“My family is well off.”

“It’s a very calm place.”

“Personal problems.”

Jongin grimaced as he overheard Kyungsoo’s responses. They were extremely vague. For some reason, Jongin couldn’t help but grow curious. He glanced at him and sighed. Kyungsoo was currently sipping some water as he glanced at the clock, hoping for their break to be over.

He felt the same way. He turned and gave his attention to Baekhyun who was currently complaining about the hoard of students surrounding their area, before the bell rang, signaling everyone to their seats.

Luckily for Kyungsoo, during the next two blocks, nobody approached him. He knew the aura radiating from his neighbor was mostly the reason. He glanced at Jongin who was glaring at everyone minus him. Kyungsoo grinned slightly before listening to Mr. Kim dismissing them for lunch.

Before anyone could even stand, Kyungsoo was out the door, with a brown lunch sack. As students commented on his abrupt action, Jongin couldn’t help but wonder why his lunch was so small. ‘Maybe that’s why he is short...’ he thought.

“Earth to Jongin! Yah, here is your lunch,” Baekhyun whined as he passed Jongin the familiar blue tin. All of Jongin’s thoughts vanished as he gleamed at the tin in front of him. He looked forward to Baekhyun’s grandma cooking everyday. He opened the lid and inhaled the aroma of the shrimp.

“How did she know I was craving shrimp?” he asked himself as he munched on a piece. Baekhyun scoffed and ate from his red tin. After Jongin was halfway through his meal, Baekhyun pulled out two cartons of milk from bag and handed one to Jongin. Jongin gladly accepted and began sipping his milk while munching on shrimp.

Baekhyun smiled as he watched his friend devour the food. He sighed as he munched on the bland shrimp in his mouth. For some reason, Jongin loved his grandma’s cooking. Baekhyun’s grandma wasn’t exactly the best chef. But Jongin believed otherwise. He once stated to Baekhyun, “Your grandma is the best cook in the world.”

Either Jongin had no taste buds or he simply loved home made food, Baekhyun was positive it was both. It didn’t matter if it was burnt or undercooked, as long as it was homemade, Jongin would eat it. Than that idiot smile would appear, causing Baekhyun’s heart to skip a beat.

“You’re an idiot,” Baekhyun mumbled as he took the empty blue tin from Jongin’s hand. He placed it safely back in his bag and handed him his handkerchief. He gladly took it and wiped his mouth before handing it back to Baekhyun. Baekhyun’s smile faltered when he placed the handkerchief in his pocket. He resumed eating his own lunch.

“Baekhyun, I think I’m going to check on Kyungsoo.”

Baekhyun glanced at his friend before nodding. “Okay, don’t scare him.” Jongin nodded quickly as he stood and exited the classroom.

Baekhyun sighed at the emptiness he felt when Jongin left. He gulped down his milk as he stared at the carton in front of him that belonged to his friend. He pouted and flicked it. He was surprised when it was still half full. Baekhyun gasped in awe as he stared at the milk carton in front of him. He  glanced at the door as he scratched his head in confusion.

Kim Jongin always finishes his milk. Always.

Kyungsoo smiled as he stared at the students playing soccer below. He spotted a group of girls gushing over the guys, and chuckled. He likes observing his classmates, from afar of course. That’s why he was currently on the rooftop, enjoying the view, with the brown sack in his hand.

After observing for a few more minutes, Kyungsoo hopped down from the ledge and sat against it. He reached inside his sack and took out the contents. His smile faded as he gazed at the bottle of pills, along with an orange-colored post it.

‘Please, take them for me.’

Kyungsoo’s vision faltered before crumpling the post it and tossing it over his shoulder. He glanced at the pills before reading the label.

Antidepressants.

Kyungsoo laughed before throwing his head back, and swallowed two pills, as per se of the directions printed on the back. He laid his head on the ledge before closing his eyes. He quite enjoyed the breeze.

“You’ve been clumsy lately.”

Kyungsoo agreed with a smile. He glanced at his lover before intertwining their fingers. “I think it’s just because the school’s ace is my boyfriend,” he cooed as he glanced at his lover.

His lover’s cheeks flushed as he playfully smacked  him on his shoulder. “You’re pretty fascinating yourself, Mr. Future CEO of Do Industries.”

Kyungsoo grimaced. His lover noticed and chuckled. He ran his hand over Kyungsoo’s smooth skin, examining the boy’s flawless features. Kyungsoo smiled at the warm touch and placed his hand over his lovers’.

“But seriously Kyung, you’re scaring me.”

Kyungsoo’s smile faded as his lover’s warm hand left his cheek. He blinked at him. “What do you mean?”

“At first I thought it was your awkward stage but... it seems serious. It looks like you can’t control your own muscles at times. Even your speech is slurred at times.”

Kyungsoo gawked at the frightened boy in front of him. “I’m okay. I’m the top of my class, it’s hard to maintain you know. Seoul Academy is competitive, and my father never accepts anything less than the best. I’m a Do, it’s what I got to do.”

“‘I’m a Do, it’s what I got to do’, huh? Fine, I’ll believe you. I’m just worried about you. And don’t start complaining about me worrying because when I worry-”

“When you worry, it only symbolizes that you love me,” Kyungsoo interrupted with a smirk. His lover eyed him then chuckled. He intertwined their hands and planted a soft kiss on Kyungsoo’s plump lips. “You win.”

“Kyungsoo!”

Kyungsoo’s eyes fluttered open as he awoke up from his sweet dream. He rubbed his eyes and stared at the student leaning forward. It was his neighbor.

Kyungsoo cleared his throat and sat up, avoiding Jongin’s eye contact. He examined his surroundings before concluding that he was in the nurse’s office.

“Why am I here?”

Jongin stared at his hands before speaking up. “I found you collapsed on the rooftop, so I brought you here.” Jongin sneaked a peek at Kyungsoo’s curious face. Jongin’s eyes focused on his lips before looking away.

“Thank you I guess,” Kyungsoo said. He wasn’t too sure how he collapsed. After going through all the possibilities in his head, he figured it was the lack of food in his stomach. He hadn’t eaten in two days. Now that his first question was answered he moved on to his second.

“How did you find me?” he questioned. Jongin smiled sheepishly and replied, “I asked a few freshmen.”

It actually took Jongin two minutes to locate Kyungsoo. The moment he exited the classroom, he simply asked the first people he saw. Luckily, they spotted Kyungsoo entering the rooftop while heading to lunch.

‘It was too easy,’ Jongin thought as he cutely bit his lip. Kyungsoo dismissed the thought of Jongin’s cute lips as he asked his final question.

“When you found me... Did you find anything?”

Jongin blinked before nodding. He brought out his hand and in his hand was a small orange post it. “I read it by accident...”

Kyungsoo sighed in relief. ‘So he didn’t see the pills...’ he thought as he rummaged through his pockets. Once he felt the outline of the bottle, he smiled. Jongin grinned at his cuteness.

“Thank you- ...”

Kyungsoo scrunched his nose up in confusion. He stared at Jongin and shook hid head. “I’m sorry I never caught your name.”

“Kim Jongin. People call me Kai though.”

“Thank you, Kai.”

At that moment, both men meet each other’s eyes. It was the first time they directly made eye contact, but a familiar feeling engulfed the both of them. It was light airy feeling with an everlasting passion.

‘He has the most beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen,’ they bought thought simultaneously, not aware of anything else in the room. They were both experiencing the same exact thoughts and emotions.

The pair continued their eye staring game. They were then rudely interrupted by a cough. Both boys turned their heads and found the head nurse standing at the doorway with a smug look on her face.

“No PDA during school.”

“That’s not what you said last week, Ms. Park” Jongin croaked. The head nurse shook her head in disgust. She ignored Jongin’s and made her way to Kyungsoo. She patted his head softly and felt his forehead.

“It seems you were just hungry. I’ll give you a pass so don’t worry.”

“What about me?”

“Jongin! I told you to leave a while ago! You aren’t even sick and you missed 3 blocks!”

“I’m sick.”

“Then why didn’t you say anything?”

“I’m lovesick.”

Ms. Park groaned and rolled her eyes. She smiled at Kyungsoo and muttered, “He’s stupid but he’s a good boy.”

Kyungsoo blinked his eyes in confusion and nodded. A sudden realization soaked into him when he heard Ms. Park scold Jongin. “Wait- I was out for 3 blocks?!”

Jongin nodded. “Right now it’s our last class. But don’t worry, it’s just Music.”

Kyungsoo shook his head and groaned in frustration. He pulled his hair and groaned once again. “I was looking forward to Music the most...” he whispered sadly.

Jongin felt guilt take over. He pouted and began to touch his knuckles, a bad habit of his. It only occurred when he felt uncomfortable. Ms. Park noticed the mood and decided to break it. She didn’t like seeing Jongin look so down.

“I wouldn’t recommend going to class, Mr. Do. Let Jongin accompany you while I bring you something to eat.”

“Sure,” he replied curtly. Jongin felt even worse. Once Ms. Park left to bring some food, he apologized.

“I’m sorry! You looked so peaceful sleeping so I didn’t want to wake you up.” Kyungsoo eyes softened. “It’s okay.”

“...So what were those antidepressants for?”

Kyungsoo’s heart shattered.
