First week was the week they’re supposed to tell their close friends that they’re getting married. For Amber, she only had to tell it to her girl best friend, Sulli because telling Minho and her other guy and girl friends her upcoming wedding would be a little embarrassing. As for Key, the wedding was nothing to brag about to his friends but he still told them since it’s a really big issue

“You’re getting what?” Dongwoon and Taemin shouted in chorus.

“I know that your dream is to get married after college but you’re only in high school!” Dongwoon added.

“It’s a fixed marriage. I had no choice. The girl is not just anyone, it’s Amber.”

“Amber noona?! I’m not against the wedding then.” Taemin said with a really mocking smile.

“Me, too.” Dongwoon agreed as well.

“Just because I’m marrying Amber?”

“We really like Nicole noona but Amber noona suits you best. You’ll be in love in no time.” Taemin giggled.

“That wouldn’t happen. I’m not breaking up with Nicole.”

But of course, Key had one super-duper important person to tell the full details of the fixed marriage—Nicole.

“What?! You’re joking, right?”

“I wish I am but I’m not. Nicole, please, I don’t want to break up with you. Can’t you wait for just six months?”

“Just six months?! Six months is long, Key.”

Nicole could wait if Key would only leave the country but if he was going to be married to someone particularly his best friend, Amber, then she simply couldn’t. If Key thought that there’s 0% chance that he and Amber would fall for each other in 6 months, Nicole was 100% sure that the two would fall in love with each other in 6… no, not 6 months but maybe 3 months or less.

“I don’t know, Key. I think it’s better if we just break up.”

“No, please, Nicole. We don’t need to break up. I promise, it wouldn’t even feel like I’m married to Amber. It’d feel like we’re the newlyweds. We can spend a lot of time together, Amber wouldn’t even care. Please, bear with me.” Key begged, begged and begged.

“It’s already hard for us to date even if you’re not married to Amber.”

“Amber didn’t do anything wrong. I’m the one who suggested on agreeing with our parents so don’t bring her up now.” Key was defending Amber again. Nicole hated it which is why she nodded in agreement. If she just gave up Key, it would only mean that she loses.

“Thanks, Nicole. I knew you’d understand.” Key hugged her.

“I love you.”

The second week was all about the preparation.

“Amber, behave well, okay?” Amber’s dad patted Amber’s tiny head.

“I will dad. See you later.”

That Saturday, Amber was scheduled to meet Mrs. Kim and to find a “wonderful” wedding dress.

“Eomonim, is it alright if I bring my friend with us?” Amber pulled Sulli and showed her to Mrs. Kim.

“Sure, I wouldn’t mind.”

They went into some wedding dress boutique. Amber felt really awkward just looking at the white dresses that she would probably wear in two weeks.

She stood clueless at the center of the shop until Mrs. Kim suddenly pulled her. She made her try on three different dresses. The first one was a long gown with lots of beeds and laces. The next one was another long gown except a little more revealing than the first one. The last one was a strapless mini white dress that Amber really hated so she hurriedly took it off. It was well detailed and it greatly showed Amber’s wonderful silhouette.

“Your name is Sulli, right? So which one do you like among the three?” Mrs. Kim asked for Sulli’s opinion.

“I honestly like the mini dress though Amber eonni is lacking a little on the front… I think that suits her best.”

“What about you?” Mrs. Kim asked their assistant.

“I like the mini dress, too.”

“I preferred the mini dress as well so the mini dress it is.”

Amber’s eyes widened feeling a little left out. ‘Why didn’t they ask me? They at least need to hear my opinion!’ She glared at Sulli but Sulli looked away not wanting to see Amber’s death stare.

“I can make some adjustments on the dress. It’ll be ready next week.”

“Thank you… Now, let’s find you a great pair of heels.”

“Uh… eomonim, can I just wear my sneakers? Coz I can’t wear heels. Remember two years ago, when I was on heels and tripped? I couldn’t walk for a month.”

“I get it, I get it. Okay, I guess you can wear whatever you want if it’ll make you less awkward.”

Amber once had an accident and Mrs. Kim was there so she knew what happened.

Week 3.

“What?! But that’s far from our school!” Key and Amber were most likely shouting at their parents again.

“Well, you can ride the bus.”

“Can’t we just live at Key oppa’s apartment?”

“No, you have no other choice coz we already talked to the owner of the new apartment and to the owner of Key’s apartment. We told him that you’ll be moving out this Sunday. Oh, and you only have to buy some stuffs for the house.”

“Including?”

“The bed, the couch, the kitchen utensils and some toiletries.”

“How many rooms?” Key asked too many questions. He was actually investigating.

“Two but the other room is only for the laundry and some broken stuffs. We’ll visit you there once in a while but we’re not telling when. And you better sleep in one bed. No husband and wife sleep on different beds unless they have a little argument.” Obviously, their parents planned the “one-room” thing so the two wouldn’t have separate rooms.

“We’ll move in there but we’re buying the appliances. I have different styles from you mom and eomonim so I think it’s better that way.” Key had a plan on how they’d be able to stay in one room without sleeping next to each other.

Amber sighed next to Key as they looked for a bed.

“So oppa, what’s your plan?”

“You see, I had this idea. Let’s buy two single beds then during the morning after we wake up, we can push them to the center together and make one huge bed. Of course, we have to buy cheap ones since they gave us a really small budget.”

“It sounds crazy but… it just might work.” Amber just agreed on Key’s plan. That was the best way to fool their parents.

The Day.

Key ran around his apartment while his parents ran after him. He was already wearing his tuxedo and his hair was also well done but he wanted to back out of the wedding so badly. When Key’s parent caught him, they pulled him to the door but he was hanging on to the wall.

“Please, please, tell me it’s just a dream!”

“Kim Kibum, this is reality so stop being immature and let’s go.”

“Want me to beat you up?” Mr. Kim was glaring at Key.

“No, no, let’s go!” and Key didn’t want his pretty face to be ruined.

Amber sat quietly staring at her reflection at the mirror. She couldn’t believe that she’s really getting married. What she couldn’t believe the most was that she’s marrying her 7-year best friend, Key.

“Can I come in?”

Someone knocked at the door so she turned her head around.

“Key oppa~” she smiled. Seeing Key made her calm even for a little bit.

“Wow.” Key uttered.

“I had never seen you this beautiful before.”

“I need to look pretty once in a while.”

“No joke, Amber but I’d probably date you right now and not Nicole.” Key had always thought that Amber was pretty in her own little way but he would never think that Amber could be prettier than any girls even Nicole.

“The sneakers are very nice match, too.” Key giggled looking at Amber’s high-cut sneakers that she wore the day she met with Key and his parents.

“Hey, you two, it’s time.”

It’s time. If there was only a way they could escape from that nightmare, they would but there was no way out. “Good luck!” It was a stupid thing to tell each other but they needed it.

So they walked down the aisle, blah, blah, blah, They said the most unwanted words “I do.” Blah, blah, blah, they put the rings, blah, blah, blah, they skipped the “You may kiss the bride” part and the wedding was done.

“Ma, Dad, can’t I just stay here with you?”

“Amber, you have to live with your husband now.”

“But I don’t want to.”

“But you have to. And he no stranger, he’s Kibum.”

Amber’s parents were right. Key was no stranger, he was Amber’s best buddy. She was sure that Key would make it easier for her.

“No, now, stop all this drama coz your husband is right outside." She saw Key waiting beside a taxi.

“We’ll visit soon.”

Amber found herself sitting next to Key inside the moving taxi.

“So… wifey…”

“Oppa, you’re not funny.”

“I’m just trying to make you smile.”

So Amber faked a smile.

“It needs to be a little more convincing than that.” Amber let out a tiny giggle and smiled for real.

Key and Amber let out a big groan as they entered their new home. They went straight to their room and threw themselves on their beds.

“It’s gonna be a long and tiring 6 months.”

“I wish 6 months will be over tomorrow.”

“If only that would really happen.”

“Let’s burn this house down.”

“Should we?”

Then it became really quiet.

“Good luck.”
