Basics

English 101

Spelling: I'm not going over how to spell things since you can use Google for that

Noun: Person, place, item, thing, or idea

Verbs: action words ex: run, jog, (and yes even) sat

Adjective: Describing words ex: Blue sky, rainy day

It was raining.

Go. (Yes this is a sentence)

Capitalize the first letter of the sentence or proper nouns (Specific Cities, countries, names, planets, places)

Proper noun examples: Jaejong, South Korea, Japanese,123 Washington Boulevard, Kill Bill (movie), Twilight (book),

Duchess of Cambridge (royal title), South East Asia

Acronyms (using the first letter of each word to create a shorter title for an organization, or item)

Capitalize every letter in an acronym

CIA [Central Intellengence Agency]

NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Admission)- small words like and/of/ the aren't always included in the acronym but sometimes used

N.A.S.A.    C.I.A.- Periods can be used to show that it's an acronym (anyone saw the Spongebob episode with P.O.O.P.?) It doesn’t have to be used but if it isn’t well known I would advise you to use the periods for it. (<-- especially if it spells a word C.A.K.E.)

You can make your own acronym (but only make one if it’s used frequently in your story or an organization) and also put in what it stands for (your readers can’t read your mind to know what it stands for)

At one forum everyone uses O.N.S. (one night stands), I think every thread there uses it at least once

Punctuation (at least put periods people! I can't separate sentences.)

Put the period after each sentence (or a ?/!).

?= A question

!= exclaiming things (ex: "Look at all the chicken they have here!!!!!" exclaimed Onew while he was at a KFC.)

... = I don't know how to explain this but here's an example:

"Who ate all my candy?!?!?!" Taemin yelled. "Well..." Minho said uneasily.

List of groceries: Eggs, milk, cereal, tea, etc... (etc... = et cetera- means of similiar things and it's used for lists)

Conjunctions

F.A.N.B.O.Y.S.

for /and /nor /but /or /yet /so

They combine 2 sentences together (compound sentences). Ex:

We have adopted a cat and it's a Manx.  [With]

We adopted a cat. It's a Manx.  [without]

Combine only 2 sentences together. Use them for short sentences to make the story sound more fluid. ex:

Max and I are friends. We've beeen friends since 5. We think dinosaurs are cool. Girls have cooties. (It sounds very 'choppy')

Since 5, Max and I have been buddies. We agree that girls have cooties and dinosaurs are cool. (it makes it more professional)

Another way to make compound sentences is using (;). If you combine sentences they have to be relevant to each other.

The ice cream man sells chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and grape ice cream; they're all 5 dollars. (good)

I'm going to an old car show; monster trucks are cool. (bad)
