Box #16
Love Box“What’s with the tie?” she asked.
“It’s a cheap tie,”
“But it’s interesting. Seems out of place with your expensive but boring suit,” she chided.
He smiled at her quip, “So, what’s with the experiment?”
She turned back to the scene before her and saw the mother still stuck in the shop where she stayed when the rain started. The mother’s face show obvious worry, probably worried over a waiting husband or another child she needs to pick-up from somewhere.
“I’m trying to see people’s reaction to rain. Haven’t you observed how the rain can fall on everyone but people react differently to it?”
Jiyong haven’t thought of it that way. He looked at her and in awe whispered, “You are something else.”
They stayed by the bench for a couple minutes more, before Chae rin gave up on Jiyong’s incessant “You’ll get sick doing this” routine.
Jiyong insisted on driving her to her place so she can change but Chae rin, a lot more stubborn that he is, stuck to her guns and said no. Chae rin struck a bargain and told him to drive to The Beanery instead.
They walked in and Chae rin went straight to the counter to get her bag and a change of clothes she left with Seungri. She disappeared for a few minutes while Jiyong went to the corner table Chae rin pointed to him.
As soon as she sat down, Jiyong, wasted no time and asked, “So what’s your name? Last night you said to wait for the next time we meet. We meet again. So Miss Beanery, what’s your name?”
She had to hand it to him, he is persistent. She just wonder though is fate on her side or his?
Can’t fate be on both your sides, Chae rin?
“Faith. My name’s Faith,” she replied.
“Faith,” he said, speaking out her name, slowly letting her English name glide through his tongue, “Nice to finally know your name, Faith.”
The day passed with Jiyong capping his night again with the blond Asian woman he now knew as Faith.
Jiyong knows that “Faith” frequents The Beanery every Wednesday and Friday night. So every Friday he would deliberately drop by The Beanery and catch up with her for a couple of hours before heading home. He finds it quite refreshing that he can talk to her about almost anything and get sensible feedback from her. She seems to know things even outside of her world of art.
One Friday evening while he was taking his second cup of coffee, he popped this question out of nowhere, “is your hair naturally blond?”
I smacked my head when he asked that. Ack, it was a stupid question to ask, Jiyong, no Asian was born naturally blond, you know that.
Chae rin looked at him, eyebrow raised, her face telling him it was a stupid question, “Why do you ask?”
“Stupid question, I know. It’s just, I don’t know. I feel that when you look at me you know a part of me that I seem to have forgotten.”
“Oh, so what does that got to do with my hair?” she prodded willing him to challenge her and willing him to remember.
He smiled at her, really feeling stupid, “You’re right of course.”
