Memories
Overweight, yet Loving YouUpon being scouted and joining SM entertainment, the conceptual writers gave Baekhyun the 'superpower' of manipulating light. Being Lee Yun, the boy's long term friend couldn't agree more with the staff who are preparing for EXO's debut. Baekhyun is simply born with a natural halo, that attracts and repels whomever he may wish to. Luckily, Yun understands herself to be on his 'attract' list, so his radiant aura does nothing except warm and protect her.
However, when the light source is absent, life quickly plunges into a deep abyss.
Buried deep within the girl's memories, is a dark period full of unpleasant thoughts and tear-blurred scenes...
Dust particles float effortlessly in the air, visible due to the sliver of soft sunlight slanting through the small window on the wall. A figure lies soundlessly asleep; face pressed tightly against the cold concrete, while a clock ticks steadily through the patterns on paper lining the walls.
No one ever visits this abandoned underground shed.
No one ever remembers it's existence.
Just like the girl who currently occupies it.
Why do they all treat me this way? Why do they all hate my body?
Lee Yun was in no way a gloomy girl.
Despite her flaws, she has always worked harder than others to obtain the best grades, and sustain her multiple hobbies. Because her mother likes her voice - she will practice singing by the piano every morning. Because her father is a successful businessman - she studied Economics and Finance diligently during high school.
But there was one thing about her, that no one could accept.
Weight.
It wasn't like she never had any friends; it wasn't like she isn't charming and couldn't make others like her. It was simply because she was different from the majority - and that difference stood out like a sore thumb in the strict and conservative Korean society.
Lee Yun is in her first year of high school, and weighing 96 kilograms.
Never has she thought of being thin and graceful like the girls on television.
Never has she dreamed of turning heads in a crowd because of her wonderful figure.
All that Yun has ever wanted - was to feel like she belonged. It was the need of acceptance and acknowledgment every human being thirsts for from childhood into maturity.
But when she was 6 years old and 130 centimeters tall, she had weighed 53 kilograms. When she was 10 years old and 152 centimeters tall, she weighed 67 kilograms. When she was 13 years old and 161 centimeters tall, she weighed 75 kilograms. In summary: Yun has never been of average weight in her entire life.
From chubby cuteness to unpleasant heaviness; adult favouritism also turned into hurtful teasing and verbal bullying. Everywhere she went, curious onlookers would point and whisper while throwing her sidelong glances. Every time she met the eyes of someone by accident, they would be staring at her body and not her face.
So gradually, Yun began to draw herself away from people in general.
She still woke up early in the mornings to attend school. She still ate lunch in the cafeteria, seated with friends of the same age. But as soon as she unlocked the front door of her home, Yun would make a beeline for the abandoned shed below ground level; which was once her mother's ceramics workshop.
Nowadays, cobwebs decorate the edges of the ceiling, and a yellow greyness has settled over every piece of furniture visible. The workshop became ownerless due to Yun's mother's prolonged illness, and not even the weekly cleaner knows of the place.
"You don't have to go often," her mother had reassured her, "but just make sure that the clay doesn't get too lonely."
And just like that, it became a habit of Yun's to visit the shed on a daily basis.
Ceramics do not judge. Ceramics are cold to the touch, but are quick to adjust their temperature according to the owner of the hand caressing their surface.
Every pot and cup and bowl and plate have different sizes, shapes, curves, and contours. The time they were created depends on the colour and smoothness of their exterior; marking the extent of their contact with the air, and experience with the world.
The good, the bad, the lovely, the frustrating; Yun gradually began to share every little detail in her life with the objects her mother created with her bare hands.
Yun's father is constantly busy and often overseas - therefore Yun has always relied upon her mother for emotional and social support. But after Yun's mother is admitted into the hospital due to tuberculosis, Yun can no longer bear to exhaust her mother with petty chitchat.
When even breathing is a challenge, talking begins to seem like an expensive luxury.
And so she was forced to divert her trust onto someone else:
Byun Baekhyun.
The boy with the seraphic voice and sparkling eyes has been Yun's friend since fourth grade.
At first, the pair would often be labeled the "rolling meatballs" when seen together in school. But as puberty hit Baekhyun in eighth grade, he miraculously turned from someone who could not even run two kilometers to save his own life - into the school prince with his own fanclub.
Now, after more than half a decade of friendship, Baekhyun sticks by Yun's side like glue; protecting her and accompanying her through the insults and raised eyebrows.
But all too soon after graduation, Baekhyun is scouted by the biggest entertainment company in Seoul: SM ent.
Without her best friend and body guard, Yun is left feeling inferior and fearful of life.
Yun father's company at the time also went through a catastrophic economical trough, and he had verbally abused his daughter due to his own frustration; saying things that made the young girl both cringe, yet at the same time agree with him.
She knows she is fat, but being told how terrible and ugly a human she was did nothing except make Yun hate herself.
She knows she's not pretty - but all she's ever wanted was just to be normal.
The girl went through anxiety, depression and a scary eating disorder where she would stuff anything edible (and sometimes even things that were non-edible) into and swallow without even tasting or registering the object. During that short time period she had gained 5 kilograms, but she will forever be thankful that it had only been 5kg.
If it hadn't been for Baekhyun, who knows how long that time period could have extended on?
Baekhyun was the one who had held Yun in his arms, her hair while the sobbing girl dirtied his shirt with chocolate smudges, biscuit crumbs, a mixed solution of tears and snot, and whatever else had remained at the corners of after consuming unknown objects for 3 days.
Maybe to Baekhyun, Yun only plays the role of his best friend, but since a long time ago, Baekhyun has been much more than a friend to Yun.
A/N: Promise you won't have to wait long for Kai now!
