Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Why is this happening to us?

Shin Hye: Appa… (Her hand on her chest)   Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Shin Hye-ah, gwaenchana?   Shin Hye: I’m fine Appa.   Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Then why are you like that?   Shin Hye: I don’t know Appa. All I remember is during this time every year I would feel my heart beat like this.   Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Chincha?   Shin Hye: Deh Appa.   Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Maybe it is just a coincidence.   He then hugs his daughter. Shin Hye’s POV: Did something happen to me in the past during this day? Why does my heart always feel like this? Why can’t I remember anything that happened to me when I was young?   She was in deep thought when the doctor went out of the emergency room.   Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Doctor, how is my wife?   Dr. Kim: Mr. Park I’ll be honest with you. We need to do an urgent operation. This is her first major attack after so many years and the situation is really critical.   Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Doctor, please do everything that you can to help my wife survive. If the operation is necessary then please proceed.   Dr. Kim: Ok. We will inform Dr. Bae so she can do the operation.   Shin Hye: Dr. Bae? (The name sounds familiar to her but can’t figure it out where or when she heard that name)   Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Shin Hye-ah, she is the number one heart surgeon in Seoul. All the operations she had done were all successful.   Dr. Kim: Except for one…   Shin Hye: Mwo?!   Dr. Kim: Don’t worry about that. It’s only one. I’m sure your mother will be fine after the operation. Look at you? You’re perfectly fit.   Shin Hye: Me?   Mr. Park (Shin Yang): Shin Hye-ah, what Dr. Kim is saying after your Umma’s operation she will be perfectly fit like you. (He looked at the doctor and he already understood what he meant)   Dr. Kim: Deh, that’s what I’m trying to say.   All the documents needed to proceed with the operation were done immediately. The operation was successful but Mrs. Park still needs to stay at the hospital for few more weeks to make sure of her full recovery.   As for the expenses of the operation, Mr. Park had no choice this time. He sold his business. Most of the money he earned from the sale was used to pay for the hospital bill. But he make sure to have at least a certain amount where they can start a small business. This time he didn’t ask for his friends help, as they were not in Seoul. Mr. and Mrs. Lee are in Japan for vacation.   After the operation, the Park family went to Mr. Park’s hometown Busan. From the remaining amount of money left, he decided to open a mini convenient store there. He rented a place near their house so he can still make sure that he will have time to check on the condition of his wife.   Shin Hye stay in Seoul because of her school. She rented a small room near her school. Even though Mr. Park doesn’t agree with it, he had no choice. It is Shin Hye’s dream to finish school and he doesn’t intend to stop her from fulfilling that.   Shin Hye is in financial crisis again. She had to do multi-tasking job again.   Monday to Friday:   9 am to 12 nn – school assistant   1 pm to 6 pm – school time   7 pm to 12 mn – waiter at the coffee shop near her school.   On Saturdays she work twelve hours at a restaurant near the subway station. No matter how busy she is with school and work, she made sure to have time with her family. On Saturday night, after her shift at the restaurant she will go home to Busan and will returned to Seoul on Sunday night. She wanted to be in Busan on Sunday because she wants to attend Sunday Church service with her family. Even when they are all still in Seoul they would always attend church together.   In the next months her mother’s health got better. She can managed to walk on her own without the help Granda Ma or Grand Pa Park. Mr. Park’s convenient store is slowly earning better but only enough for their family’s expenses and Mrs. Park’s monthly check up. Shin Hye continue with her routine schedule and part time jobs. She doesn’t have any choice. She needs her part time jobs for the extra expenses she need in school that her scholarship doesn’t pay for.   September 2012   Shin Hye thought she managed her time well.  Before the start of her forth year in school, on the day she was supposed to get her grades she received a call from the Dean of their department.   Mr. Choi: Ms. Park, I have your grades now with me.   Shin Hye: My grades sir? I'm sorry sir. I was too busy lately that I forgot to get my grades. Is there something wrong sir?   Mr. Choi: I’m sorry to tell you Ms. Park but for this coming school year, you are no longer part of the School’s scholars list.   Shin Hye: Why sir? What’s wrong?   Mr. Choi: You failed to reach the required grade for your Marketing subject. When I saw your grades I immediately asked your professor for the reason. Apparently, you forgot to submit one report that is 20% of your total grades for the semester. Why didn’t you submit your report?   Shin Hye: I’m really sorry Sir. I think I totally forgot about it. I was too busy.   Mr. Choi: I know you are busy with your part time jobs but you should have not take your studies for granted.   Shin Hye: Sir, you know how I valued my studies.   Mr. Choi: Ms. Park, I know. But we can’t do anything about it. For this school year, you need to pay for your tuition fees already. We just follow rules. I hope you understand.   Shin Hye: I understand sir. Thank you.   She felt so down and worried with the news of the Dean. Shin Hye’s POV: I need to do something. I can’t afford to stop school again. If only I can get an additional job other than my current jobs.     Her work at the coffee shop will only starts at seven in the evening but she decided to go there early. She planned of asking her manager to extend her shift. She was busy thinking of her other plans when she accidentally bumped into someone.   Shin Hye: Cheosonghamnida! (Bow her head)   Jung Shin: Shin Hye-ah, gwaenchana?   Shin Hye: Oh! Teacher Lee.   Jung Shin: How many times will I tell you that when we are not in school you can call me Jung Shin? In school I am a teacher and you are a student. But outside we are friends, have you forgotten that Shin Hye?   Shin Hye: Ani.   Jung Shin: Are you sure? Then why are you calling me Teacher Lee? You are only like that when something is bothering you? (He took her hand) Gaja!   Shin Hye: Where are we going?   Jung Shin: Somewhere to put your mind at the present time.   Shin Hye: But I need to go to the coffee shop.   Jung Shin: Your shift starts at seven and you can’t work with that kind of condition.   Shin Hye was left with no choice but to follow him. They went to a nearby park.     Jung Shin: Now tell me what’s bothering you Shin Hye? Is it about school?   Shin Hye: Ani. I’m just thinking of the financial reports that the finance supervisor was asking me to finish.   Jung Shin: Shin Hye-ah, don’t overwork yourself. You should think of your health too.   Shin Hye: Yes I will. Gomawo Jung Shin-ah.   Jung Shin: For what?   Shin Hye: Thank you for always being here for me. You’ve been a good friend to me.   Jung Shin: That’s how we will always be. No matter what happen. (He look at her) Don’t I deserve a hug from being such a good friend?   Shin Hye: Of course you do. (She hugged him and then rests her head o
