"Have you seen Kris' fiancée?" I heard a student ask the girl beside her over their lunch.
Of course. I sighed in my seat. Who else would be the subject of the gossip?
It's been a week since Han Chae came to SMA and not a day had passed without her clinging to Kris like a gum.
Gum! Ugh, now I remember something nasty.
"Eunae?" Lu Han asked beside me, his voice torn between worry and amusement.
I looked at him curiously, finding him staring at my hands. "Hmm?"
"You might wanna take it easy with the fork," Jieun said beside him. "You could break it."
A glance at my hands showed a bent fork.
Lu Han gently took the fork from my hands. "What's wrong?"
"Gum! That's what's wrong."
Jieun, suddenly seeming to understand me, nodded. "Yeah, we found her locker yesterday decorated with gums, like it was some sort of spider web."
Lu Han frowned. "Why didn't you tell me?"
Throughout the week, there's been a series of pranks involving my things getting wet, thrown out, crumpled, tied, and being the recent one, covered with gum. And because of that, Lu Han has been protective all week despite my protests.
"You were busy, what with all the meetings about the upcoming acting activities," I said, waving him off. When his expression didn't change, I added, "Really, it's fine Lu Han. And besides, Jieun helped me cleaned it off."
I appreciated his concern but it wasn't helping with the low profile thing. I was already gaining attention because I was targeted by the pranks, Lu Han and Jieun's involvement only fuels it. People were already starting to wonder who I was, where I came from, why I was being pranked, and the likes.
Sigh. But that doesn't mean that I'm not grateful though. I'm lucky to have them by my side.
"Was there a note again?" Lu Han asked.
"Yep," Jieun answered, knowing I wouldn't volunteer the information. "It's the same one. ‘Stay away.’"
I groaned. "I don't get it. What is it I'm supposed to be staying away from?"
"More importantly, who's behind all of this?" Lu Han stated seriously. "And until we find out, you be careful, okay? It's only harmless pranks now, but it could turn into something more serious."
I nodded.
Just then, the bell rang, signaling the start of afternoon classes.
"See you at last period," Lu Han said before leaving.
I just nodded.
"Hang in there buddy," Jieun said, squeezing my hand.
I smiled gratefully. “See you at dinner.”
The rest of the afternoon passed by in a blur. I was soon heading towards school from dinner; Jieun and Lu Han had left for the weekend. Lu Han didn't want to go but Jieun and I had managed to convince him that he was being silly.
And now, as I walked, with only the cool night air and the silent surrounding as my companion, I couldn't help remembering what happened exactly a week ago when I was also heading back. But despite my memory, it seemed like another lifetime when Kris had held an umbrella over my head and kept me close by the shoulder. Looking back over the week, I couldn't feel his presence at all. He ignored me during classes and only talked to me when necessary; he didn't even look at me in the eyes. He didn't text me anymore either; the errands have completely stopped.
I sighed for the umpteenth time that day as I entered the SMA gate. I should just be happy, right? Kris had finally left me alone, and that helped.
The whole Black House was quiet, as usual; even the lady from the front desk had gone home for the weekend. Was Kris staying for the weekend again? He probably went ho
