chapter eleven

An awkward silence enveloped the group. To be more exact, the awkwardness had gripped on tightly to the group the moment they walked through the door and it still hadn't let them go. Yulin could feel more awkwardness radiating from everyone than she could feel the chilliness of her ice cream, and that was saying something since she was freezing. As the four ate their cold dessert silently, Yulin tried to start a conversation, each one starting with, “So...” and all of them ending in no one replying to her. Not even Minseok, which she found weird, because he always was on her side.

Minseok was trying his best to keep the conversation going, he truly was, but every time he opened his mouth to speak, Luhan and Fei would distract him. The two just reeked of hostility. Luhan just wanted to eat his ice cream and leave, and he knew that if Minseok would stop and have a conversation with Yulin, the impromptu outing would never end. Fei, well, Fei was just being herself, her aggressive and easily irritated self. And at the moment, all of her aggressiveness and irritation was towards a certain blond Chinese male sitting across from her.

“So,” Yulin tried again, for the tenth time since they stepped foot into the local ice creamery. “How's everyone liking their ice cream?” She looked around with a small smile, hoping that that question would get everyone talking. No such luck.

“It's great, thanks.” Luhan gritted his teeth as he said so, while also staring down Fei as he spooned another spoonful of chocolate ice cream into his mouth. Yulin wasn't so sure he was very happy about his ice cream after all.

Fei turned to look at her best friend, and with a pleasant smile that everyone could see was fake, told her, “I love it, it's delicious.” But as soon as Fei said that, she spun her head to glare at Luhan, who was not-so-innocently messing with Fei's strawberry soft serve.

Luhan had taken a plastic spoon and had gently pushed the tip of the cone, making it fall off. The rest of the ice cream was still intact, but the tip was Fei's favorite. “Oops,” Luhan said with a shrug. A mischievous smirk appeared on his face. Fei rolled her eyes and wiped the table off with a napkin.

“Well I love my vanilla ice cream, so thank you, Yulin.” Yulin looked at Minseok gratefully. She knew she could count on him after all. They smiled at each other for a bit while Luhan and Fei continued to bicker.

“I'm going to the restroom,” Luhan suddenly announced. Pushing himself away from the table, he got up and left without another word. He left his chocolate ice cream on the table.

As soon as the Chinese pilot was out of ear shot, Minseok looked at the two girls in front of him, his eyes begging for mercy. “I'm really sorry about him, he's had a bad day.” Although that was no reason to be rude, it made Luhan seem like less of an . “Please don't mind him, really.”

Yulin nodded understandingly. “It's okay, really. I'm having a great time.” Anyone could tell that her words were a bit forced, but Minseok didn't call her out on it.

Fei just snorted. “Yeah, and I'm having the time of my life.” She leaned back in her chair and looked behind her towards the restrooms. “Gosh, he takes forever. As soon as he gets out we're leaving,” she said.

“No,” Yulin objected, “I'm not even done with my ice cream!” She looked at Fei with her big brown eyes and clasped her hands together semi jokingly. “Come on, Fei, let's stay for a little bit longer?”

Sighing, Fei grudgingly agreed, however she had one condition. “Don't tell him I did it.”

Yulin furrowed her eyebrows, wondering what in the world Fei was talking about. She opened to ask, but she closed it in horror when Fei grabbed a salt packet from the condiment holder and ripped it open. Without a single trace of remorse, Fei dumped all of the contents of the packet onto Luhan's ice cream. While Minseok laughed at her audacity and Yulin was staring at her speechless, Fei took Luhan's spoon and mixed the salt into it, making sure to hide the little crystals carefully.

“You promised, alright?” Fei gave a stern look to Yulin.

“But-” Fei shushed her when the door to the restroom opened and out stepped Luhan, not having any idea that his ice cream had been messed with. Giving Yulin a look, Fei successfully gained her as an accomplice when Yulin didn't say anything as the pilot sat down.

Luhan picked up his spoon and opened his mouth, ready to shovel another spoonful of ice cream into his mouth. Fei and Minseok leaned in subtly, wanting to see Luhan's reaction up close. Yulin looked away, pretending to be interested in the little menu that was sitting on the table top.

Minseok was trying his best to not erupt into laughter, but it was hard, and little chuckles escaped through his tightly closed lips. Giving him a weird look, Luhan set his spoon down (much to the disappointment of Fei and Minseok) and asked his roommate what his problem was.

Not wanting to be caught, Minseok was forced to make up a lie on the spot. Never having been good at making up lies, he blurted out, “Yulin told a joke.”

Luhan raised an eyebrow at the same time Yulin's head shot up in surprise. “What?” she whisper shouted. Minseok shrugged apologetically to her. Yulin really didn't want to be pulled into Fei's and Minseok's little scheme, but she had no choice now. Looking at Luhan, she nodded meekly. “Uh, I mean, yeah. I did.”

Honestly intrigued, Luhan leaned closer, completely forgetting about his ice cream for a moment. “Well, what was it? You can tell me, right?”

Glancing quickly at Minseok for getting her into this mess, Yulin nodded. “Yeah, alright, well,” she started, stalling for time. Thinking quickly, she remembered a joke that Chanyeol had told her one day and went with it. “Why did the skeleton go to the party alone?” Even Fei and Minseok turned to look at her, wondering what the punchline of her joke was. “Because he had no body to go with him!” Laughing slightly, Yulin nervously looked at the others.

Fei had her head in her hands, chuckling at the mortifying lame joke Yulin just told. Minseok was laughing, however he wasn't laughing at her lame joke, he was laughing at just how cute Yulin was while delivering it. Luhan didn't laugh, and to hide his second hand embarrassment, he turned his head away and scooped a spoonful of ice cream into his mouth.

He immediately spit it out.

“What the hell!” he shouted, gaining everyone's attention. When Luhan realized that everyone in the shop was staring at him, he lowered his voice and glared at Fei. “What the hell did you do to my ice cream?” he yelled in a slightly lowered tone.

Minseok and Fei burst out laughing, no longer being able to hold it in. Even Yulin couldn't help but let a few giggles escape. Angrily, Luhan demanded an answer as to why his delicious chocolate ice cream had turned to crap. As soon as Fei calmed down, she held her aching stomach, since it hurt so much from laughing. Looking at him straight in the eye, she said, “Salt, my friend, is a wonderful tool.”

Two pilots were sitting in a meeting with their CEO and his public relations team. After the news about the lawsuit broke out, his team had been working double time to make sure that nothing was being exaggerated or wrongly reported, and to make sure that EXO Air's image was still as clean as it was before the whole thing.

When one of Mr. Wu's assistants tracked down the twelve pilots at the McDonald's during their breaks, none of them really had any idea why. When the small and skittish man announced that he needed the two most mature pilots to follow him, everyone immediately knew who he was looking for – everyone except Kris, who stood up as soon as he heard the word mature only to be told to sit back down because Mr. Wu needed Joonmyun and Kyungsoo. Not one to ever back down, Kris followed along anyway because 'he's my dad so I can do what I want'.

So to be more precise, two mature pilots and an immature grudge holding one was sitting in the meeting with their CEO and his public relations people. Mr. Wu was in the front of the room talking to everyone about how they were trying to control the situation and trying to explain to everyone the exact details of what was going on. Joonmyun and Kyungsoo listened intently as they nodded at the appropriate places and added their input when asked to. Kris sat there twiddling his thumbs wondering why he decided to sit in on the meeting when he had a tray full of McDonald's french fries that he could be devouring instead.

Kyungsoo was listening attentively to his CEO speak and was absorbing every little detail he was saying. Being one of the few that actually worked hard and took his work seriously, he had to live up to the expectations of being one of the most responsible and mature pilots. Although sometimes those expectations were too much for Kyungsoo, most of the time he enjoyed his work and what he did.

“Kyungsoo.” Hearing his name being called, Kyungsoo's head snapped up at the voice who said it. He saw Mr. Wu look at him and wondered for a second why before he got his answer. “I need you to keep the others in check, alright? I know you're only a co pilot, and you're one of the younger ones, but you, along with Joonmyun, are the most mature and responsible employees I have. Please help keep the others in check.”

Kyungsoo nodded, proud that he had been given such an honor. Seeing Kris sulk about not being named the most responsible made him even prouder. Looking at his boss, he motioned his head up and down. “I'll make sure to help keep the others out of trouble, sir.”

Mr. Wu nodded, dismissing everyone from the meeting. “Meeting adjourned, everyone. Thank you. Don't forget about the company wide meeting taking place later this week.”

As Kyungsoo and Joonmyun stood up to leave, they both felt a hand on their shoulders, preventing them from doing so. Turning around, the two pilots saw Kris standing there with a not-so-happy expression on his face. Although he didn't vocalize his irritation, it was obviously there in the way he spoke his words. “You two better not mess this up,” was all he said.

“We won't, we know how to make sure the others don't get in trouble, don't worry.” Joonmyun laid a comforting hand on Kris, telling him that he and Kyungsoo would be able to do fine. “Unless you wanted to help us? I'm sure your dad would love more people helping out to make sure everyone stays out of trouble.” Joonmyun said it good naturedly, but judging from the scowl that appeared on the Chinese man's face, Kris didn't take it very well.

Scoffing, as if he never even thought about – which was a lie, since not being appointed as a keeper of peace was all he could think about during the meeting – Kris said, “Why would I want to have a useless job like that?” Kris frowned. “What are we, in kindergarten? I'm sure everyone knows how to not act like little kids by now.”

The three walked out of the meeting room and started to stride towards the staff rooms where the rest of the pilots were sure to be after finishing their lunches. Kris kept going on and on about how Kyungsoo and Joonmyun were assigned pointless jobs that he would never want while he was being given the more important duties.

“So,” Kris started, his hand placed on the door knob of the pilot's room, “have fun doing your unimportant job while I-” Water splashed onto him. Laughter was heard all around. Kris had no idea what had just happened, but whenever he regained his senses, he knew that he would once again have to kill one of his coworkers for being stupid.

“What the hell is this?” Kris shouted, finally realizing what had happened. The nine other pilots were still laughing hysterically, and Chanyeol and Jongdae were on the floor clutching their stomachs. One, or all, out of the nine thought it would be fun to place a water balloon right between the place where the door met the wall. When Kris unfortunately opened the door, the water balloon popped, splashing it's contents – which was, luckily for everyone else, only water – onto the unsuspecting, but probably deserving, pilot.

Kyungsoo and Joonmyun cautiously brushed past Kris, having been standing far enough behind him to not have been hit by the water. Seeing the mess Kris was standing in, and hearing the loud unceasing laughter of the others, Kyungsoo couldn't help but say, “Really, they know how to act like adults, right?”

Kris glared at him as he stood there dripping wet.

Something was wrong. Something was very wrong. Jongin could tell the moment he walked into the eerily quiet McDonald's. Looking around, the second youngest saw absolutely nobody at the usually busy fast food court. Checking the text he had received from Jongdae ten minutes ago, he confirmed that he was really supposed to meet Jongdae here, yet, the troll was no where to be seen.

Squinting, Jongin noticed a large plastic wrap covering lying on the floor. Confused as to why it was there, the second youngest stepped closer to it, wondering what it's purpose was. The plastic covering was about ten feet by ten feet (Jongin knew because it spanned from one end of the large table, the one him and the others always ate at, to the other end. Upon closer inspection, Jongin realized that a big red 'X' was placed directly in the center of the tarp with the words 'DO NOT STEP HERE' under it.

Not being able to fight off his dying curiosity of what would happen if he disobeyed the capitalized words., Jongin decided to go for it. Glancing around to make sure no one was watching him, Jongin took the plunge and stepped onto the plastic tarp. He flinched, as if he was expecting all of humanity to be destroyed with his step – he really hoped that the fate of humanity wasn't up to him, because Jongin knew that he'd end up screwing that up somehow. When nothing out of the ordinary happened, Jongin slowly opened his eyes, looking around him to make sure he hadn't accidentally killed a puppy or something gruesome like that by disobeying the words. Feeling a bit more confident, Jongin continued to walked across the plastic until he reached the center, where the bright red 'X' was. With a smirk and a mutter of “nothing's going to happen' Jongin stepped onto the red symbol.

Nothing happened.

Jongin scoffed, knowing that he was right all along. “I knew it,” he said, shaking his head in amusement at the situation. “It's only a stupid tarp.” As soon as he finished his sentence, something floated past his face and landed by his feet. Looking down at it strangely, Jongin realized that it was little specks of rainbow colored glitter. Narrowing his eyes at the strange sight, Jongin looked up, only to be met with a bucket full of glitter being dumped onto him.

The man was speechless as he stood there, shell shocked. Hearing laughter behind him, Jongin spun around and saw Yixing and Jongdae. Jongdae looked past Jongin and gave two thumbs up. “Thanks Mina! You did great.” Turning only his head to look at who Jongdae was thanking, Jongin recognized the petite McDonald's worker, even with that impish grin on her face. Ahn Mina had been hiding behind the counter when Jongin walked in, which explained why he hadn't noticed her. What Jongin also didn't notice was the invisibly thin string Mina was holding that was connected to the bucket of glitter directly above the 'X'.

Yixing shook his head while still chuckling. “I don't know how you fell for that, but I'm glad you did.” He high-fived Jongdae and Mina as the mischievous girl finally came out from behind the counter. He told Mina she did a good job and told her goodbye as she left the fast food stand. Turning his head back to Jongin, Yixing burst out into laughter again. “Glitter is actually a good look on you,” he said, turning his head as he playfully inspected the younger man. “You should try to wear more sparkly things, Jongin.”

Jongin scowled at the two of them as he tried to brush himself off. It didn't work. And since Kyungsoo had started to restrict access to his extra sets of clothing, Jongin was unfortunately stuck like that for the rest of the day. “Someone better start explaining.”

Jongdae, who excelled at making excuses, surprisingly told Jongin the truth. “This was revenge, and also we had an extra tub of glitter, and I wanted to use it.”

“Revenge for what?” Jongin asked. He stepped off the tarp as Yixing started to fold it into halves. “Also, why did you have an extra bucket of glitter and what's with the plastic wrap?”

Jongdae shrugged, but answered Jongin's questions with a breeze. It was as if he had been expecting those questions. “Revenge for the triple date Yixing and I didn't know we had scheduled.”

“What are you-”

A finger was pushed up against Jongin's mouth and the owner of it continued to talk. “Remember when we pranked Kris with the waster balloons?” Jongin nodded, Jongdae's finger still preventing him from speaking. “Well, I couldn't decide whether to use water or glitter at first, so I got both, but then we decided to use water and so I had all this glitter that I really wanted to use. You just messed with me at the wrong time, I guess.” Jongin slapped Jongdae's hand away from his face, frowning. “Oh,” Jongdae said, “and the tarp is there because we needed you to step on exactly the right spot, and also because Onew wouldn't let us pull the prank if we got the floor dirty. The tarp made for easy clean up.”

“How considerate,” Jongin said, his words dripping with sarcasm. “But what date are you talking about? I didn't even do anything!”

Yixing spoke up this time, having not said anything for a while now. “You didn't tell us that you set us up on a date with one of your many girlfriend's friends.” Jongdae nodded in agreement. “So I think it's you that has a lot of explaining to do.”

Jongin finally realized what he had done to deserve the glitter bombing. But really, he had a legitimate reason as to why he basically sold Jongade's and Yixing's Saturday night away. “This is a really funny story,” he started. The other two gave him a blank look and Jongin continued on. “Anyway, Jihyun is a security guard here, and she is really, and I mean like really hot. I, naturally, asked her out on a date. Of course, she said yes.” Jongdae and Yixing rolled their eyes at their friend's cockiness. “But she didn't want to go on the date alone, so she asked if I had any friends that were single that could triple date with two of her friends. Being the considerate person that I am,” Jongdae scoffed and Jongin ignored him, “I immediately thought of you two. So I said that I did and that you two would love to go on a triple date with me and her, and two of her friends.” Jongin finished his story with one unbelievable sentence. “So really, you guys should be thanking me.”

“Unbelievable,” Jongdae muttered. “Completely unbelievable.” He glared at the younger man.

“I'm taking that as a you'll do it,” Jongin said flippantly. “Meet me at that one really fancy sushi restaurant in Building B on Saturday at 8 p.m. sharp.”

Yixing shook his head, finding this whole situation to be hilarious. “Classy, Jongin. A sushi bar in our workplace as a first date? Real classy.” Jongin just scowled.

Jongdae's resolve finally broke as he reluctantly agreed. “Fine, whatever. Just tell me who the girl I'm supposed to be on a date with is.” Yixing raised his hand, also telling Jongin that he desperately wanted to know who he was to spend his Saturday night with.

Jongin smiled brilliantly, ecstatic that it all worked out for him in the end. “You're with Subin,” he said, nodding towards Jongdae. Turning to Yixing, he told him, “You're with Saerom.” Clapping his hands happily, Jongin started to walk out of the fast food shop, not wanting to be there when Jongdae realized who he was paired with. “Well, that's it! Thanks, see you guys later!” He shot out of the restaurant, not looking back.

Back inside, Jongdae had finally recognized the name Jongin said he was supposed to date Saturday. “Wait, Subin?” he shouted, not wanting to be stuck with her. “Jongin! You come back here! I'm not going to date her!” As Jongdae ran off to give Jongin a piece of his mind, Yixing stood in the middle of the McDonald's, laughing to himself. He was just happy that he got Saerom. At least she wasn't as crazy as Subin.

“Who's planning Sehun's birthday party?” Chanyeol suddenly asked. The other ten pilots (Sehun was visiting his parents in Seoul that afternoon and was not present) looked up at him and then at each other, each one mentally giving the responsibility off to someone else. No one spoke up, though, and Chanyeol sighed, knowing that once again, no one had stepped up to take the responsibility. “Who wants to plan his birthday party?” Still, there was no response. With another sigh, Chanyeol changed his question up. “Okay, fine, who hasn't planned a birthday yet?”

Immediately, all hands and fingers – Jongin pointed his left foot because he was lying upside down on the couch in the staff room – were pointed at Baekhyun. Baekhyun's eyes widened and the hand that was pointing at Tao dropped. “What?” he spluttered in shock. He couldn't believe that they didn't remember the awesome party he planned Minseok just last month. When he told them this, Minseok busted into laughter.

“Hah,” he snorted humorlessly. “Paying for my lunch while making everyone else pay for theirs is not considered an amazing party. Try again.”

Baekhyun glared at the older man, not believing that Minseok had thrown him under the bus like that. “I planned Kyungsoo's and Jongin's joint party in January!” he exclaimed, taking Minseok's advice and trying again.

Jongin shook his head from his upside down position. “No you didn't.” He pointed to Luhan and Chanyeol. “They planned it.”

Kyungsoo nodded, confirming the fact. “If I remember correctly, you said that you didn't have time to plan ours and that you would plan the next one-”

“Which didn't count,” Minseok clarified, in case anyone was confused. “So it is now your duty to plan Sehun's. “

Groaning, Baekhyun knew he was defeated. Now that he was stuck with the job of planning the youngest's 23rd birthday party, he really wished that he had helped Luhan and Chanyeol plan the joint birthday party earlier in the year. “Does anyone want to help me?” he whined. He pouted at each and every other pilot in the room, but they all either gave him disgusted looks or looked away. Sighing, Baekhyun exclaimed, “But what am I supposed to do? That kid is extremely hard to please!”

“Do what I would do,” Jongin said, flipping over to stand up straight again. His face was a bit red because of all the blood rushing to his face. “Take him to the club and call it a day.” Jongin seemingly didn't care that much about his best friend's birthday party.

Baekhyun scrunched his nose at the idea, shaking his head no. “That's a terrible idea. How horribly low class.” Baekhyun supported his head with right arm as he thought of a better idea.

“Why don't you just take us all out to dinner?” Joonmyun suggested, trying to be helpful. He only got shot down by Baekhyun.

Scoffing, the pilot said, “What, with my pay? No thank you.” He continued to think again. Suddenly, Baekhyun's whole face brightened as he thought of the perfect idea. “We'll rent out a club and invite all of his friends and coworkers!”

“But didn't I just-” Baekhyun shushed Jongin and continued explaining “his” idea.

“Quick, someone give me the name of the nearest club.” Baekhyun looked around, wanting suggestions of clubs they could go to. Of course, this being Baekhyun, he only wanted high class clubs – if there was even such a thing.

“Rent out Poison Ivy,” Kris suggested. All eyes turned towards him. “What? My cousin took me to it once! It's a good club!”

Baekhyun gave him a look that made Kris feel like a peasant compared to him. “I'm not looking for strip clubs, hyung.” He gave Kris another disdainful look. “But of course I wouldn't put it over you to go to those kinds of clubs.” Kris narrowed his eyes at the younger pilot, wondering where in the world his audacity came from. “Any more suggestions?”

“Classic is one that's not too far from here,” Chanyeol said. “Remember that time that we all went there and Kris-” Only muffled words could be heard from the boy, as Kris had slapped his hand over Chanyeol's mouth, preventing him to speak any further. His deadly glare told Chanyeol one thing. That incident will never be said out loud. Chanyeol gulped loudly.

Baekhyun laughed. “Wow, Kris, you are not very good with clubs, are you?” Chuckling, Baekhyun thanked Chanyeol for his suggestion. “So it's decided. Classic it is. Anyone have their number so I can call them and rent out their space?” Looking around, he was only met with bored faces.

Chanyeol couldn't help one last dig at Kris though. “I bet Kris hyung has it on speed dial.” A loud whack was heard as Chanyeol pleaded for mercy from Kris' violent newspaper beating.

Chapter 25: Yoo Jin being late reminded me of thinking I accidentally missed my class today XD (my heart stopped when I thought it began 20 minutes before because we were going over things for the midterm o.o)
If they did the bake sale they should sell over-priced cookies girl scout style. By girl scout style they have to dress up as the cookies they're selling :P (Oh memories... I was always the one in one of the stupid outfits -_-)
I can totally picture Aerin being a Jongdae saesang.
I actually lol'ed when Jongin told Hyerin they all had to memorize her scehdule XD
The bachelors auction reminds me of the movie White Chics when the girls were being 'sold' in an auction for charity :o
Wow this chapter is giving me tons of flashbacks XD

Why did you have to cut off there though, I'm dying to find out if Hyerin manages to force those pilots to participate in her fabulous Bachelor's Auction wouLDN'T IT BE HILARIOUS IF JONGDAE ACTUALLY HAD TO GO OUT WITH AERIN?????/ "Read it and weep" LOL you gotta love this girl, she is no joke man, and you'd better acknowledge that Kris, before you lose out to her~ Also, I love loVE LOVE that Kris made the other pilots memorize Hyerin's schedule because ugh the obvious chemistry and sparks flying everywhere < 3

I wonder though, is the money/time excuse the real reason behind Mr. Wu Sr's decision?? For all they know, it's a sort of 'test' or something (okay maybe I'm over-reading into the situation now /shot).

I KNOW THIS IS GUNNA SOUND ANNOYING (AND BRATTY LIKE SEHOON) BUT UPDATE SOON PLS. I NEED TO READ ABOUT THE AUCTION PREPARATION/PROCESS K.
