CHAPTER 14 ~

[3rd Person POV]

                “Jiyong, can I talk to you?” he nodded, already realizing that she had heard everything. “Jiyong, I’m not mad at you but I wish you had approached me about what happened. It wasn’t Sunye’s fault. I was there. I saw everything happen before my eyes. I liked you too Jiyong but things changed when I met Seunghyun. Even if you had asked me to be your girlfriend that day, I would’ve had to reject you…but only because I had asked Seunghyun out prior to the whole fiasco.” Jiyong was astonished at her confession.

                “Seunghyun told me this just a while ago, but that was the day Sunye and Daesung broke up. She was really heartbroken. It was her first relationship Jiyong and Seunghyun was the one that took her to that club. He saw a friend and left her at the bar for a while which is when we showed up.

                “Sunye dated Daesung? Why’d they break up?”

                “I don’t remember the details but that’s not the point. Seunghyun rejected me that day because he didn’t want to start a relationship with me on the day Sunye just got out of one. And Jiyong, he happened to see you and Sunye kissing and after that, he asked me out himself. But Jiyong ah, I saw the whole thing; I saw the guy push her onto you. She wasn’t fully conscious. It wasn’t her fault so please stop blaming her. “Jiyong shook his head. This revelation was just too much for him. Yoobin pulled him in for a hug, slowly patting his back. “I’m sorry Jiyong ah, but it would’ve never worked out for us. I hope you’ll forgive me and Sunye.”

                “Yoobin, I’ve never been mad at you-and as for Sun-”

                “Are you guys done? Class is over,” Sunye walked back onto the scene with Seunghyun trailing behind her, hands in his pockets.

                “Yah! Choi *namchin, can you drop me home?” [namjachingu – boyfriend]

                “Yes Binnie. I’ll be back Sunye.” Sunye nodded.

                “I’m sorry. I’m really sorry for being a jerk to you for the past 2 years. I know it wasn’t your fault but I guess I was looking for someone to blame.”

                “Jiyong oppa, you’re not mad at me anymore?” he shook his head.

                “So truce?” he held out his hand but instead of shaking it, she enveloped him into a hug. He patted her head

                “Oh, oppa, now that we’re on good terms, can you tell me why Youngbae oppa is so shy? And that Sohee girl, I thought she liked you.” He gave his infamous boyish smirk.

                “Yah! Are you already beginning to use me for personal gain?”

                “Ani! That’s not what I meant. Why are you twisting my words?”

                “I’m not. Why are you so curious about those two?” he teased.

                They started walking to the parking lot. “Just because…unless you want to tell me about how you started liking Yoobin unnie.”

                “Do you need a ride? Tell Seunghyun I’ll drop you home.”

                “Stop changing the subject!” she yelled as she took out her cell phone.

                “Oppa! Take me out to ice cream…please! I promise I’ll go home after that and you can get back to your dates or whatever,” she claimed while rubbing her hands together in front of his face.

                “Aish. Fine! You’re lucky I feel guilty or I would’ve just left you on the side of the road.  Yah, don’t touch anything,” he smacked her hands which were reaching for the radio.

                “Oppa, *ahpo,” she whined like a little kid. Jiyong, on the other hand just ignored her and parked his car before unbuckling his seatbelt. [*apha - it hurts]

                “Stop being a baby and hurry up. I have a date to go on, like you said.”

                Sunye opened the car door, making a face at Jiyong. “I get it oppa, I’m only asking for 20 minutes of your time.” They walked into the store together and approached the young girl at the counter, who couldn’t take her eyes off of Jiyong. She seemed to be around their age and had fairly large doe-eyes and long hair. No doubt, the girl was pretty. *Ahem* Sunye cleared , snapping the girl out of her trance.

                “Um we’ll have one mint chocolate chip and one chocolate chip cookie dough,” Jiyong ordered while reaching for his wallet in his back pocket.

                Sunye poked his arm. “Why did you order for me?”

                “Why, did you want something else?” he asked confidently while eyeing her with a smirk.

                “No…but what if I did?” The girl at the counter followed their argument back and forth with her head, her eyes wide in fascination. 

                “Well I know you and I know what you like. That’s why I ordered,” he passed the bills over the counter to the girl and then faced Sunye. “And I’m paying aren’t I?”

                “Well you do owe me,” she sneered with her arms crossed. The girl at the counter handed back the change to Jiyong and he rewarded her with a warm smile.

                “Um…we have a free toppings promotion going on for couples. Would you guys like anything on top of your ice cream?” the girl politely offered. Sunye slowly pondered the decision and decided to take advantage of the misunderstanding.

                With her hands latched onto Jiyong’s arms, she suggested, “Oppa, I want some hot fudge.”

                Jiyong observed her accusingly. “Okay, can you just put some hot fudge on both?” The girl nodded and disappeared behind the counter. Sunye dragged Jiyong to the nearest table by the window. “You know, I was paying. You didn’t have to lie.”

                “Technically, I didn’t lie,” she retorted, “the girl made the assumption herself. And I just saved you some money; shouldn’t you be thanking me instead?” Sunye sat down with her chin resting in her hands. “So oppa, about that Sohee girl…does she like you or Youngbae oppa?”

Sunye lay in her bed, faced down, with her hand reaching out at the lamp on her bedside. The light had been switched on and off at least a hundred times. The clicking noise had become somewhat soothing. She couldn’t get the conversation with Jiyong at the ice cream parlor out of her head.

*Flashback*

                “Do you like Youngbae?” he asked as she almost spit out her first spoon of ice cream.

                “What? Why would you ask that?” she looked at him wide-eyed.

                “Oh, come on. It's pretty obvious. Besides, I think he likes you too. He’s just shy; you know how he is.”

                “Youngbae oppa likes me?” She blushed. “Really?” Jiyong nodded calmly, eating his own ice cream. Sunye suddenly stopped smiling. “But what about Sohee?” she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.

                “What about her? Like you said, it’s me she likes.”

                “But what about that day…at your house? Why was she stuck to Youngbae oppa like glue and why was he so comfortable with her?”

                Jiyong could only laugh at her questions, wondering if he should mess around with her or just tell her the truth. “Yah, are you jealous? If it makes you feel better, they’re more like siblings helping each other out.” He pushed his bowl aside, propped his elbows up on the table, and rested his own chin on his knuckles, slightly imitating Sunye. “Would you like to enroll in Jiyong’s Youngbae 101 class?” he teased. She pushed his forehead in retaliation and pursed her lips. “Free of charge,” he added.

                “You’re mean! And that’s silly.”

                “Not really. Think about it. If you like Youngbae, you know how shy he is. Even if he likes you, he still won’t approach you. You need to break down his barriers. And who do you think can teach you how to do that?” he said as he popped his collar. “Seriously, do you think anyone knows my best friend better than me? I’m willing to help you. Think of it as me making it up to you for the past two years.”

*End of Flashback*

                “Argh!” she screamed in frustration.

                “Yah, Min Sunye. *Kwenchana? Get ready, we have to go to the airport.” Her head shot up. She was so absorbed in her own problems that she had completely forgotten that her beloved oppas were coming back. [*Are you okay?]

                “I’ll be down in two minutes!” She quickly grabbed a black sweatshirt to pull over her Mickey Mouse t-shirt and sprinted down the stairs.
