A Reminder
Once Bitten, Twice Shy
It was really early in the morning, but Hoya was already in her room, watching her pack for school. She eyed him as he flipped through his phone, one hand absentmindedly wrapped around that little teddy bear he'd given her, and she couldn't help but smile.
"What are you looking at?" she asked.
He chuckled. Unbeknownst to her, he took a picture of her while she slept, and he was admiring it. "Nothing."
He got up from the bed, and she watched as he approached her corkboard, where she kept reminders for upcoming college app deadlines and a scattering of cute character stickers.
He dug into his pocket and retrieved a piece of paper. He unfolded the paper, took an unused pin, and stuck the paper to the corkboard.
"What's that?"
He grinned. "A reminder." She peeked over his shoulder and saw. It was the first drawing they'd made together. A boy holding an umbrella over a girl, and a heart with a question mark over it.
She smiled but remarked. "Ugh, don't make me gag."
"What? You don't like it?" He turned to her and playfully took her waist, hugging her to him. "Next, I'll start thinking you don't like me!"
"Of course I don't!" She joked, and then leaned into his soft lips.
The way that they kissed made her stomach flutter with excitement. Each time, it was like her heart thudded a little harder than the last. She could feel herself falling for him... and admittedly, she liked it.
"I love you," he said against her lips.
She smiled. "Gaja. We don't want to be late."
*******
One day, school let out, and Hoya took Yoona's hand as they began their usual walk back home. He had embarrassed her during the pep rally, blowing kisses to her after his performance, and she was punching him in the shoulder playfully.
"Too! Public!" she said between punches.
"Arasso! Arasso! I'll tone it down!" He leaned away from her, but she was so little, that he felt like he was getting attacked by a chipmunk. He grinned at her, making her frown and punch more.
Suddenly, she froze, her hand tightening in his. He followed her gaze.
There, at the next crosswalk, waited a boy with fluffy hair and a sharp nose.
This is it, Hoya thought to himself. Woohyun's finally going to confess. He always told himself that he would let them talk and figure it out, but now that the moment had arrived, he wasn't sure. All of a sudden, he wanted to whisk Yoona away. Keep her by his side. Steal her for himself.
But he knew better. She needed to choose, honestly. Otherwise, she might never truly love him.
He sighed deeply, and then turned to Yoona. "I'll go first, and wait for your call."
She looked deep into his eyes and nodded. "Kumawo, Hoya."
He lifted their conjoined hands to his lips, and kissed her fingers gently. "I love you. Don't forget that."
"Mm."
Then, he let her go and walked away from her and Woohyun, hoping that letting them talk like this wasn't a mistake.
