Chapter 5
A Love, Everlasting
The sun glowed with a fierce brightness making me close my eyes before putting on my sunglasses. Birds flew overheard,
chirping, while the buzzing of cicadas creating an orchestra of slight chaos. A slight breeze brushed gently past in the warm, spring
morning. “What a beautiful day.” Taeyeon murmured. “It is, isn’t it?” I replied, pulling slightly on her hand. “Come on! We have to go
eat. I am starting to get hungry as well.” I pulled slightly on her hand once more, getting Taeyeon to move forward. Together, we began
our walk to the café. Our journey lasted about 15 minutes before reaching the café. The smell of coffee and cinnamon rolls began to
drift towards us, making both mine and Taeyeon’s stomach growl. We walked a little faster into the café and made our way to the
register. The sales assistant looked up, a smile on her face. “Hi! What can I get for you guys this morning?” She said in a loud voice to
reach over the cacophony of restaurant noises. “Can we get two cinnamon rolls and two cups of coffee?” Taeyeon spoke to the
cashier while I reached to get my wallet. “Two cups of coffee and two cinnamon rolls? That will be $5.54.” The cashier informed us
while setting down two mugs for coffee on the counter. I pulled out $6 from my wallet, telling the cashier to keep the change before
grabbing the two cups of coffee and our table number and walking away.
Taeyeon and I sat across from each other, gently grasping hands and making light conversation. Steam rose off our cups of
coffee seasoned with hazelnut. Finally, our cinnamon rolls reached our tables and without waiting, we began to eat. “Mmmm. This ij
amajing-“Taeyeon said through a mouth full of food. I began to laugh, nearly choking. “Whad?” Taeyeon said looking confused. “It’s
nothing, sweetheart.” I said smiling and shoveling more food into my mouth, then taking a sip of coffee. We finished the rest of our food
in silence, enjoying the sweet aromas of the cinnamon and hazelnut. I looked across at Taeyeon, who seemed absentminded. “Do you
want to go to the park today?” I asked Taeyeon, tilting my head a bit. “The park? What would we do there?” Taeyeon asked. I thought
a moment before answering “We could have a picnic. We will just have to go to the store first. What do you think?” I asked once again.
Taeyeon smiled showing her beautiful ivory white teeth and nodded. “That sounds lovely!”
Together, we walked through the grocery store holding hands, our fingers laced together. “What kind of snacks should we
get for our picnic?” I wondered aloud. “We need things for sandwiches. And we also need something to drink. And maybe some
cookies also.” Taeyeon answered before wrapping her arm around my waist. I let go of her hand and put my arm around her shoulder.
Our store trip ended with us getting turkey for our sandwiches, as well as lettuce, mustard and mayo, and cheese. To drink, we picked
out 2 large bottles of water, and for our dessert, we settled on chocolate chip cookies. We began to walk back towards the house, the
sun now high in the sky, and the heat feeling nice on our skin. Together, we made our way into the house, and made the food, packing
the drinks and sandwiches into an ice chest in order to keep them cool. I grabbed a sheet from the linen closet and grasped Taeyeon’s
hand before beginning to slowly walk to the park.
