Happy Birthday

An Artist's Heart

~ Final Chapter ~

Chanyeol frantically ran down the street in full speed dodging all the innocent civilians. His heart beat was racing one million times per second as he approached his destination. He could feel his hands getting sweaty in anticipation. He had been dreaming about this day every night. The more he thought about it the more he wanted to give up and lose hope. But no, today was the day. He was going to do it. He had prepared and organized his speech for so long. He wasn't going to back down now. It was about time he took the next step.

It took Kyungsoo and Jongin some time to convince him, but, in time, he finally grew to this point.
He had rehearsed what he was going to say probably one billion times, yet he still didn't feel the slightest prepared. He honestly couldn't remember what he was supposed to say. He didn't bring a script or anything, he was going to say everything from his heart, but his heart was too busy beating like a hyper school girl for him to focus properly.

Pulling at his red tie for more comfort, his hands and legs were shaking as his veins pulsed in anxiety. Jongin explained to him all the details; how he should act, how he should dress and how he was going to use his soothing deep voice to make him look cooler. Kyungsoo kept reminding him that they would already be there, waiting for the right moment to pop out and congratulate him. And the biggest rule was to not lose confidence.

In Chanyeol's opinion, that was the most difficult thing to accomplish. How could he ever feel confident when all that was running through his mind was failure?  What if things didn't go according to plan? What would happen then? Would Chanyeol have to cry his eyes out at how stupid he was? No! He couldn't back out now. He couldn't lose hope. Not after all that annoying shouting from Jongin, not after all the scolding from Kyungsoo. He was going to do it. Whether it meant he had to it up and be the one of the bravest men on earth.

Scaring the day lights out of him, his phone buzzed.

Annoying :

Where the are you?

Chanyeol :

I'm almost there! Has Chinsun arrived yet?? Is everything ready? Are our families there? You didn't forget to anybody, right? I hope you didn't because I'll smack you! Oh crap don't forget to hide! I don't want Chinsun to see any of you, It has to be a surprise. Wait, is she already there? Crap am I running late? I am aren't I?! , these stupid dress shoes!!

Annoying :

Whoa calm down buddy, everything's set. We got all the decorations up, oh hey! Chinsun just got here!

Chanyeol :

Crap! I'm about ten minutes away!

Annoying :

Chilax. She can wait ten minutes for her knight in shinning armor ;)

Chanyeol :

Shut up Jongin! I'm really nervous, don't make it worse.

Annoying :

Aww, don't be nervous Chan. Everything's going to be perfect, trust me :)

Chanyeol :

I can't trust you, you dip.

Annoying :

Of course you can trust me, I'm the one who practically prepped you up for all of this.

Chanyeol :

Whatever! Oh, is Chinsun wearing that dress I bought her?

Chanyeol ran across the street, almost bumping into an old woman as he stepped over a pile of snow. Waiting patiently, he checked his phone every three seconds for a response.

Annoying :

Wow Chan, you got to hurry your and see her. She's wearing it. And damn, I've never seen her look that good in her life.

Chanyeol blushed at the message.

Chanyeol :

Really? I can't wait to see her

Annoying :

Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!

The tall male slipped his phone into his pocket, breathing out a breath of air. Chanyeol could smell the aroma of the simple coffee shop as his steps became larger. He was extremely excited to see her, but at the same time, this was going to be one of the most scariest moments of his life.

Taking one more stride. He stopped right in front of the entrance. His shoulders were rising and falling at an incredible pace. Staring at his shoes, he waited until he retained his normal breathing. Looking back up through the little window, he could see Chinsun sitting at the far corner of the shop. She always chose the corner. He could clearly see the deep red colour of her dress, and just by awkwardly admiring her from outside a coffee shop, it made butterflies rise within his stomach.

Chanyeol took a deep breath and smiled as he opened the door and stepped inside the building. It was a lot warmer, it made him feel a little better. Weirdly enough, he noticed his stupid friends hiding underneath a table, Kyungsoo waved at him as Jongin gave him two thumbs up. Chanyeol rolled his eyes as he then averted his gaze to Chinsun.

He straightened his back and cleared his throat, ping his jacket and fixing his tie. Glancing one more time towards his friends and around the restaurant to all the civilians doing their best to stay anonymous, he made his way to Chinsun.

Quietly sneaking his way to his girl. He cupped his hands over Chinsun's eyes. The female gasped in surprise, rapidly stiffening up at his touch. After a brief moment, Chinsun's cheeks heated up.

“Your hands are cold,” she commented shyly. Chanyeol chuckled, releasing his hands and hugging Chinsun from behind. The male took the seat beside the girl and smirked at her beautiful face.

“Sorry I took long,” Chanyeol smugly scratched the back of his head, “I had something to do...” he told her.

“It's okay,” Chinsun responded, “I just got here.” Chanyeol grinned as he stretched his arm over the back of her chair.

“Did you check out the menu yet?” he asked, peering over at the open book. Chinsun's face flushed at his little show of affection. The girl nodded her head, lifting the menu so he could see.

“Yeah,” she answered, “I ordered this for myself and this other one,” she pointed, “for you.” Chanyeol couldn't help but kiss her cheek. She knew exactly what he wanted. Chinsun became all bashful at the familiar kiss, fumbling with the rim of her sleeve in embarrassment. Despite all the times they had spent and grown with each other, Chinsun couldn't control her shy side popping up ever once in a while. Chanyeol didn't mind though, he loved her with all his heart and today, he was going to prove it to her.

--

After a very amusing meal, Chanyeol knew it was now or never.
Clearing his throat, Chinsun looked up from her chocolate cake and waited for him to speak. Their eyes locked, Chanyeol couldn't feel any less nervous. “Chinsun,” Chanyeol began, “I have something I have to tell you.” Chinsun's smile quickly faltered, worriedly swallowing her food. “For a long time now, I've been thinking about...us,” he continued, “you're the greatest thing that's ever happened to me. Since the first time I met you I thought you were different, I thought you were special. I was really confused with my feelings because I cared for you, a little too much for it to just be friendship.” Chanyeol then felt heat raising to his face. “That's when I realized I loved you, a lot. And I don't think anything could have changed my feelings for you then, and not even now, not ever. It took me a long time to finally get the courage to ask you out, and when you said yes,” Chanyeol couldn't help but gleam, “I think I became the happiest man alive. I couldn't believe the girl of my dreams actually felt the same way as I did for her. Every living moment with you is just like a day in heaven. Whenever we're not together, I can't help but think about you. Every day, when I wake up, I always smile and hurry up to get to school because I know you'll be there, waiting for me at the entrance. But now,” Chanyeol then took a deep breath as he continued in his deep heart melting voice, “high school passed a couple years ago and we're getting older. I can't live without you. You're the light of my world. You're my everything. I love you so much. More than anything in the entire universe.” Chanyeol hesitantly reached into his back pocket. “You are the most beautiful angel on this planet, there's nothing more I can ask for,” he then stood up from his chair and kneeled down on one knee, in front of Chinsun.

Chinsun's mouth fell agape as her face burned red. She cupped her hands over . Slowly lifting the top of the small container, Chanyeol looked up in Chinsun's eyes and smiled. “Happy twentieth birthday,” he spoke, “will you marry me?”

Chinsun furiously nodded her head. Chanyeol let out a breath of relief as he reached for her hand. Nervously, he slipped the diamond ring on her ring finger. Chinsun didn't bother looking at the jewelry as she hugged Chanyeol with all her heart. Chanyeol's heart beat was screaming in speed as he hugged the love of his life back.

“Congratulations!” everyone cheered as they clapped their hands at the scene. Chanyeol's family and friends all stood up from their seat and continued their applause with bright smiles on each of their faces. Kyungsoo and Jongin ran up to the couple and tackled them in a group hug.

Chanyeol kissed Chinsun on either of her cheeks as tears began streaming down her face. Looking up, he noticed a teary eyed Kyungsoo and a laughing Jongin. “Are you crying?” Chanyeol chuckled.

“Shut up!” Kyungsoo whined, “this is a beautiful moment,” he concluded. Chanyeol rolled his eyes as he faced his fiancé.

“I love you,” he whispered in Chinsun's ear.

“This i-is the best birthday present,” Chinsun sniffed, “I've ever received.” Chanyeol could feel his heart do a couple flips at her words.

Smiling down at his princess, pecking her lips for the first time, he muttered, “Nothing's better than stealing an artist's heart.”
