Her Name

An Artist's Heart

~ Chapter one ~

Chanyeol was lazily sitting at the back of the class waiting for the period to end. He was staring at the clock at the front, glaring as the hand moved slower and slower to the twelve. The teacher was rambling on about some crap he couldn't care about.

As the last minute of class began to count down, Chanyeol felt a piece of paper hit the side of his head. He cocked an eyebrow at the crumpled little note sitting on his desk. Turning to his left, he saw Jongin ushering him to read it. The tall boy sighed as he unraveled the paper. He cringed at the terrible writing, but once he read it, a small smirk played across his lips. He looked back at Jongin and nodded his head. His friend grinned back in response before getting up from his seat right when the bell rang. The class erupted in chatter as each student made their way to their friends. Chanyeol stood up from his desk, right away being greeted by Jongin.

“Let's go,” the tanned boy said, making his way to the door with Chanyeol following behind. As the two boys walked to the front of the class, Chanyeol couldn't help but notice a girl sitting alone at the corner of the room drawing in her sketch book. Her head was held low in concentration as her pencil glided across the page. Chanyeol heaved a tired sigh as he looked back at Jongin who was currently leading the way. A couple girls hanging around the door were whispering to each other, probably bad mouthing some innocent soul.

“You see that girl over there?” one of them pointed, presumably to the loner in the corner drawing. The other two girls nodded their heads. “She's so ugly,” she snickered, while the other girls agreed, “what a loser.” Chanyeol heard as he exited the class with Jongin.

--

Chanyeol on the tip of his cigarette letting the calm sensation fill his body. He watched as Jongin started to get stoned on the amount of smoke he was inhaling. Chanyeol leaned against the tall brick wall of the school, tilting his head up to the sky. Snowflakes were gently floating down from the clouds above meeting with the earth just beneath his feet.

“Dude, check out that chick,” Jongin pointed, as a long legged curvy female walked passed them from across the street. Chanyeol rolled his eyes at his friend and stared off to the clouds. “She's hot,” Jongin smirked as he threw his shortened cigarette to the ground. Chanyeol didn't answer as he followed Jongin's lead and discarded his cigarette to the snow covered floor. They heard the school bell ring as it echoed through out the campus. Chanyeol unwillingly got off the wall.

“Let's go,” he sighed, letting out a breath of cold air.

“But I don't want to!” Jongin complained as he grabbed on to Chanyeol's arm and groaned. The taller male glared down at Jongin.

“Get off,” he hissed, yanking his arm away from the shorter. Jongin just scoffed at the moody boy and followed him into the school.

All the students were walking to their classes chatting with their friends, some finishing off the remains of their lunch on the way. Chanyeol just kept his hands in his pocket and walked along side his friend as the girls began giggling and blushing at their presence.

“None of these girls got ,” Jongin mentioned, scanning the females in the hall that shyly looked away when he made eye contact.

“Is that all you're looking for?” Chanyeol scoffed as he observed Jongin check out every girl he saw.

“Yeah pretty much,” Jongin half-heartedly answered back, eyeing one particular girl with a low cut shirt. He winked at her when he passed by. She just rolled her eyes and turned away. “She's got some stuff going on,” Jongin grinned, complementing the girl he just observed.

“You're such a ,” Chanyeol laughed.

“But I'm a y ,” he winked.

Both boys walked into their class and made their way to the back. Chanyeol sat in the middle of the row while Jongin sat next to the window. The taller male took out his phone and began deleting some of the many texts he received from random girls. He didn't know how they always seemed to find out his number, but he was pretty sure that Jongin had something to do about it.

--

As time passed and the class was coming to an end, Chanyeol successfully deleted all of the messages on his phone, but he knew that there would be tones of new ones coming tomorrow. He slipped his cell into his pocket and looked up form his lap. While scanning the class in complete boredom, he noticed the girl from before doodling inside her agenda. It seemed like she couldn't help herself from drawing all the time.

For the remaining period of the class, Chanyeol fell asleep on his desk. The bell rung, successfully waking him up.

--

“You going to the club tonight?” Jongin asked as he leaned against the locker next to Chanyeol's. Chanyeol just shrugged and grabbed his bag from inside his locker swinging it around his shoulder. “Why not? It's so fun! I hooked up with a girl yesterday and she said she's going again today!” Jongin exclaimed with a big smile.

“I don't know,” Chanyeol mumbled, closing the creaky door then hooking the lock to the locker with a click. He began making his way to the exit down the hall. Jongin ran to his side narrowing his eyes in frustration.

“Oh come on!” Jongin pleaded clasping his hands together to add emphasis. “I won't drink this time I promise!” he said. Chanyeol raised an eyebrow at his statement.

“Yeah, sure you won't,” Chanyeol muttered sarcastically while shaking his head in the process.

“Please Chan? You're missing out on all the fun!” the tanned boy whined, “you don't even need to pay the girls to get laid, they do it for free!” Chanyeol stopped in his tracks and turned to Jongin with an unpleased stare.

“Listen, I don't want to be responsible for you, and no matter what you say, somehow you're going to end up like crap,” he explained. Jongin rolled his eyes at his friend before smirking.

“Fine, whatever. Do what you want, but don't come crying to me because you haven't had a little fun in a while,” Jongin replied. “I'll see you later then,” he waved and swiftly ran out the door. Chanyeol sighed at his immature friend before continuing his stroll down the long hallway.

Many girls eyed him as they came into view. Some would wink or blush and look away in embarrassment, but Chanyeol didn't care. He seriously couldn't care less if some wimpy little girl liked him or not. He wasn't the relationship kind of guy, and he wasn't a one night stand like Jongin either. He just didn't flow that way. Love was just a waste of time and he learned that the hard way. The only thing that really mattered to Chanyeol was to graduate from this hell hole and finally do something meaningful in his life.

Life , is what he always told himself. Nothing ever interested him. Everything was just boring. Nothing popped or stood out in a way that would grab his attention. He just seriously didn't care. At all.

“There she is,” a familiar girl whispered to her two friends. Chanyeol glanced at what the person was signaling at, his pace slowed down slightly when the loner girl came into view. She was kneeling down to the ground carefully putting the last of her stuff into her school bag. She zipped up the top getting up from the floor lifting her bag with her. She strapped both straps around her shoulders and reached into her locker. She pulled out the sketch book Chanyeol had seen her draw in before, holding it in her hand. She closed her locker and started walking to the exit. “Come on,” the girl suddenly spoke to her two friends.

Chanyeol curiously watched as the three girls stalked up to the victim. The talker of the group slammed her shoulder into the loner causing her book to fall to the ground with a loud unattractive slam. Instantly the poor girl bent down to pick up the sketch book, but one of the other girls accidentally kicked it farther away from her. Chanyeol could hear them giggle as they left the building. He rolled his eyes at their stupid behavior as he observed the girl silently watch the three bullies walk out the door.

As he got closer, she weakly stood up and walked to her sketch book a couple steps away. She brushed the top and the bottom of the book sadly holding it close to her chest for better protection. Then she walked out of the school a couple seconds before Chanyeol did. She was going in the same direction as him, he slowed down his steps to gain a distance from her to avoid any awkward encounter.

Both of them reached a crowd of people waiting at a red light. Instead of waiting as well, she turned the opposite way and crossed the green light. Chanyeol stopped at the group of people with his hands deep in his pockets as he waited for his turn to walk. For some odd reason, he couldn't help but feel sorry for that girl. She looked really hopeless. He didn't understand why he was worrying about her, he didn't even know her name. He just brushed it off and focused on what was important.

--

“You're such a ,” Chanyeol sighed as Jongin came crashing on the couch. Jongin mumbled something through the cushion, but Chanyeol had no clue what he said. The taller male walked out of the kitchen and into the living room where Jongin had presumably passed out. “Damn it Jongin, you're such a ,” Chanyeol mumbled to himself as he lifted the drunk boy onto his shoulder.

Chanyeol dragged him down the hall of their apartment and pushed Jongin's bedroom door open. He carried the boy to his bed and threw him on top. “Your welcome,” he hissed, shutting the door behind him. Chanyeol walked into his room and fell onto his bed. I'm so tired, Jongin better not be a in the morning...Chanyeol thought as he covered himself with his blankets. He closed his eyes and sighed at the crappy life he had.

Nothing was interesting. Everything was the same, all the time. It was boring. Damn my life ...Chanyeol thought before drifting to sleep.

--

“Chanyeol!” Jongin yelled from the kitchen.

“What do you want?” Chanyeol asked in his husky morning voice. He trudged into the room with heavy steps as he started to wake up.

“I feel like ,” Jongin whimpered as he rested his chin on the table. Chanyeol opened the fridge and pulled out the milk container. He closed the door and placed the carton on the counter.

“That's what you get for drinking at midnight,” Chanyeol retorted as he poured himself some cereal. Jongin just grumbled in response as his hang over started to get worse. Chanyeol turned to Jongin and sat across from him. Chanyeol ate while Jongin rubbed his temples to ease the pain. After a couple moments of sweet silence, Chanyeol decided to speak up.

“You know that girl in our class?” he began. Jongin narrowed his eyes at his friend.

“There are many girls in our class,” Jongin chuckled, but quickly stopped when a jolt of pain sprang in his body.

“Yeah I know,” Chanyeol lamely answered, “but you know that one girl who doesn't have any friends?” he continued, munching on another spoon full of cereal. Jongin pursed his lips in thought.

“Um...I think so. Why?” Jongin questioned curiously.

“Do you know what her name is?” Chanyeol pondered. Jongin smirked at Chanyeol, slowly sitting up and crossing his arms.

“Why are you so curious all of a sudden?” Jongin questioned. Chanyeol just cocked a brow in confusion.

“I just want to know her name,” he replied while dipping his spoon inside his bowl.

“But you don't care about a thing! Why would you want to know her name?” Jongin exclaimed, slightly wincing at the headache he had. “She's not even the least bit hot,” he added. For some odd reason Chanyeol's heart clenched at the insult that was just said.

“What the hell man, I just want to know her name,” he defended.

“Fine, fine, but why?” Jongin inquired very evident that he was clearly surprised by Chanyeol's random question.

“I don't know,” Chanyeol flatly answered while finishing his breakfast.

“You don't know? Come on dude!” Jongin whined as the elder walked to the sink and washed his dishes. “Do you like her or something?” he then spoke.

“No,” Chanyeol truthfully answered, “I just want to know her name. That's it.” As he turned off the sink and dried his hands, Jongin slowly got up from his chair and made his way to the kitchen door. Before leaving, he turned to Chanyeol.

“I think her name is Chinsun.”
