CHAPTER 2 - IT COULDN'T BE HER
ANGEL“Wake up!” Kris flew off his bed and landed on the floor at the sound of his sister’s voice. “God she’s worse than mom” he said as he got up. “I’m coming!” he yelled back as he walked towards the door and opened it. “Victoria, what do you want!” he yelled at his older sister for waking him up so rudely. Why did she have to live with them, she’s too old to still be living with her mom.
“Get ready for school it’s almost seven” she crossed her arms. He had forgotten it was Monday and he overslept. Without a word he rushed into his bathroom to brush his teeth then back to his room and he got changed. He came running down the stairs and paused a little when he saw Lay sitting down with his sister eating breakfast.
“Look who’s awake” Lay said when he saw his friend. This wasn’t unusual since Lay practically lived there. But today was different. Seeing Lay reminded him of last night and that girl. “Morning” he slowly made his way towards the kitchen table and pulled the sit next to Lay. “What’s wrong with you” Victoria asked although she really didn’t want the answer. “Are you still mad about your car” Lay added. Kris shook his head.
To be honest he had forgotten about the car. There was only one thing on his mind. Kris couldn’t stop thinking about that girl. He could still remember her. Her beautiful face her soft skin her smell. Last night he couldn’t put his finger on it but now he remembered he scent. She smelled like gardenia a flower that grew every spring in the small town Kris lived in.
Kris grabbed the newspaper and actually started reading an action which surprised both Victoria and Lay. They looked at each other puzzled. “Now I know something’s up. Is this about the car because mom said she would pay for it to be fixed since she’s kind of responsible for the crash” Victoria tried to reassure her brother. “I’m not mad about the car” he said not looking up from his paper. But Victoria just carried on “and don’t blame yourself, lots of people have had incidents at that exact spot by the lake on Hollow road. They say it’s haunted” Victoria made spooky noises which lay giggled at.
Kris’ head shot up remembering something. “Is that the same place Jessica’s dad had that accident” Kris said now looking at his sister. Victoria thought for a moment “Oh yeah it is. He also said he saw someone by the ledge that’s what caused his car to smash into a tree” she made an illustration with her right fist smashing into her left palm. “It was probably the ghost of the woman who died there” Victoria said munching on piece of toast.
“What woman?” Kris was now interested. Victoria gave her brother the look “you mean you don’t know”. “Nope” Kris replied turning back to his paper. “It was a cold rainy night’” Kris rolled his eyes knowing one of his sister’s tales was coming along “an out of Towner was driving along Hollow road at the speed of light when her car started slipping on the road. All of a sudden she was heading for the ledge” Kris was actually paying attention now. “She tried to hit the brakes but it was too late. Her car went flying passed the ledge and into the lake then splash” Victoria made another illustration with her hands. “And she was dead”.
“Bull” Lay burst out not believing a single word of it. “It’s a true story just ask anyone” The two carried on arguing. Kris on the other hand was in deep thought. Could the girl from last night be the woman from Victoria’s story? “When did all of this happen?” Kris broke Lay and Victoria’s argument. “I’m not really sure on the time frame”
“Come on I’ll give you a ride to school” Lay got up and headed out the door. Kris grabbed his back pack and followed Lay completely brushing off the story. Little did he know it was kind of important for the events about to take place in the next few days. Then he thought to himself “It couldn’t be her”.
