Why You?
The Red StringNothing felt right about this. It had to be a mistake. It had to.
After all, how could I be paired up with a guy? And not just a guy, a guy who has a girlfriend? This string, wrapped perfectly around my finger was, without a doubt, a lie.
I kept my head down in my arms, letting them rest on the surface of the counter beneath me. It hasn't even been 3 days since I found out who my soulmate happens to be. But luckily, I didn't get his information or anything.
Maybe we'll end up never meeting each other ever again.
Maybe this is all just a nightmare, and I'm still dreaming.
Maybe this isn't reality at all.
"You okay?" A familiar voice broke my train of thought, causing me to jerk up from my slumped position. I settled my attention on the new figure beside me.
To my surprise, and bad luck,
it was Chunji.
"What are you doing here?" I asked in a slightly skeptical tone with squinted eyes.
He rested in the empty stool beside me, chuckling to himself, "Me? I happen to work here, silly." He explained, pointing to his work uniform, "L.Joe, right?"
Before answering him, I took my time eying the coffee shop I was in, forgetting why I went in here in the first place, "Uh, yeah...." I started, then remembered the fated string that tied us together which caused me to stand up in a hurry, "I should go now though."
"Yah, hold on a second. It's okay. I'm on break. Sit back down!" He waved his hand around in the air, gesturing me to take my seat again. I did as I was told with a somewhat unhappy expression.
"Yah, you really don't like me, do you?" He let out, noticing the face I was making and slapping my shoulder lightly.
"How'd you know?" I asked as a reply, giving him a slap on the arm too.
"But why?"
"Why not?"
We stayed there, staring at one another with some kind of tension between us. There was a slight glare in his eyes, as well as mine.
"I should be the one disliking you." He began again.
"Why's that?"
"You were checking my girlfriend out."
In a heartbeat, my body jerked up from the seat, "I WASN'T!!"
"YOU WERE!"
I gave out an agitated sigh, tugging harshly on my somewhat messy hair, "I wasn't. God damn..."
"Then explain why you were trying to talk to her the other day." He followed and stood up after me, crossing his arms.
"I told you, I liked her shoes."
"Don't give me that bull, L.Joe."
"Too bad."
"Yah! Just tell me already!!"
I shook my head and grunted from discomfort, "You wouldn't understand it anyway. I'd just be wasting my breath on you." Then, I headed towards the exit before I could see the confusion in his eyes, the confusion in his voice.
But his confusion couldn't even compare to mine.
And that was, Why?
Why him?
