Jessica had her arms folded across her chest as she watched Onew trying hard to connect with Yoogeun.

Only a small smile appeared across her face.

My only question is why. Why Onew? Why did you want to do this?

Jessica walked away for a moment.

 

Onew saw Jessica sneak off and he felt panicked.

He didn't know what to do.

Yoogeun pointed towards the way Jessica went with a curious look. "Eomma?"

Onew tried to touch him. "Eomma will be right back."

Yoogeun had a frown. "Eomma."

Onew got a little startled. He thought Yoogeun would start to cry or something.

Yoogeun tried getting out of his seat, while whining.

He jumped back, standing up from his seat. "Uh. Yoogeun-ah."

The young toddler was able to get free from his seat and he got down.

"Yoogeun-ah," Onew called.

The child was already taking off. He ran towards the hallway.

Onew ran a hand through his hair. He felt foolish.

Yah! Get yourself together, Jinki! This isn't going to get Jessica's attention. If she see's that I'm not getting along with Yoogeun, she's not going to like that.

Footsteps came from the hallway.

Onew looked up and found Jessica carrying Yoogeun into the room.

Onew tried to smile. "Oh. He found you?"

Jessica giggled. "Neh. Looks like he isn't really hungry."

Yoogeun held on tightly to Jessica.

Jessica looked at the innocent child. "What's wrong, my angel?"

Yoogeun turned away.

She pursed her lips. "Yoogeun. Tell Eomma what's the matter."

Onew bit his lip. I want to hold him, but I'm afraid.

Jessica saw him. "Jinki, do you want to hold him?"

Onew was shocked by the sudden question. "Uh."

Jessica walked towards him with the little one. "Oh. Come on."

His legs got weak.

She came up to him, looking him in the eyes. What a cute eye-smile.

Onew chuckled nervously. "It's okay. Really."

Jessica touched his arm. "It's alright, Jinki. There's no reason to be afraid."

She looked to the toddler. "Yoogeun? Do you wanna go to Appa?"

Yoogeun looked at Onew. He held out one arm.

Onew was a little surprised that he wanted to be held by him. He didn't really know what to do.

Jessica was ready to pass the child. "Arasso. Jinki." She was gesturing towards him.

Onew tried to open his arms out to take the child, but was weak.

"Aniyo. Aniyo." Jessica held Yoogeun. "Just like this. Just make sure you have a good grab." She tried again.

He sighed and was thinking to himself. I can do this. Just relax.

Onew took the child, a little weakly, but was able to get a hold of him.

Yoogeun was in his arms.

Onew smiled to the child. I did it!

Yoogeun looked at Onew and touched his face. "Appa."

Onew nodded with an eye-smile. "That's right."

Little did he know that Jessica was taking a picture of them.

This just has to be saved. It's a wonderful moment to remember.

She saved the picture in her phone, as she stared at it.

Onew carried Yoogeun throughout the area, letting him wander.

 

As the weeks went by, Onew had dropped by everyday after work.

Jessica always invited Onew to stay with them, but Onew would decline the offer.

Yoogeun couldn't have been happier. He had a father figure around him now.

 

One morning, Jessica woke to the sound of her ringtone. "Waeyo?"

She tiredly answered the phone. "Annyeong?"

"Oh. Did I wake you?"

It was Onew's sweet, delicate voice that rang in her ear.

All she could do was smile.

"It's okay. I need to get up. What's up?"

"Just wanted to say a good morning to you and Yoogeun."

"Oh. Well, good morning."

"Also, I wanted to know if you wanted to go out tonight?"

"Like us, as a family?"

"Oh. Aniyo. I meant, just us two."

Jessica thought about it. This is just so sudden. But it's also so sweet.

She finally answered him, "Ah. Neh. That would be lovely. I will have to drop Yoogeun off at my mother's."

"That's great. I will pick you up around 8pm sharp. Good?"

"Neh. That would be great."

"Neh. Alright, I must go now. I will see you tonight."

"Yes you will."

"Annyeong."

"Annyeong." She hung up the phone after hearing him hang up. "Arasso. I must drop off Yoogeun as my mother's."

Jessica got herself out of bed, going to Yoogeun's room. "Yoogeun."

She opened the door and found Yoogeun had risen from sleep.

"Oh. You're already awake."

Yoogeun looked up at his mother that was entering his room.

Jessica sat on his bed. "Yoogeun." She caressed his hair.

Yoogeun requested to be picked up by the outreach of his small arms.

Jessica picked him up, setting him on her lap.

"Yoogeun, do you want to visit Halmoni today?"

Yoogeun formed a smile. "Mm."

Jessica smiled. "How about you stay with Halmoni for the night?"

"Mm."

Jessica kissed his forehead. "Great. Cause Eomma's going to go out tonight."

Yoogeun stared at the ground.

She put him down. "Okay. Let's go call Halmoni."

Jessica walked out of the room and went to retrieve her phone.

She called her mom.

"Annyeonghaseyo?"

"Mom?"

"Ah. Sooyeon. What is it?"

"I was wondering if Yoogeun could come stay the night."

"Of course he can! I love seeing my grandson!"

Jessica laughed. "Arasso. I will bring him after lunch."

"Good. And what do you plan on doing tonight, Sooyeon?"

"It's nothing, Mom. Just taking care of some things."

"Ah. It's a boy now. Isn't it?"

"Mom!"

"Alright. I won't ask. But I know it's a boy."

"Ugh. Bye Mom." She hung up the phone before her mother got even more suspicious.

Jessica sighed before going off to Yoogeun's room, packing his things.

 

Later that afternoon, Jessica drove Yoogeun to her mother's house.

Her mother was already outside. "Ah! Sooyeon! Yoogeun!"

Jessica got Yoogeun out of the car. "Yoogeun, go greet with Halmoni," she said as she grabbed Yoogeun's bag out of the car.

Yoogeun ran to her mother. "Halmoni!" He had his arms open, ready to hug her.

Her mother hugged Yoogeun, taking him in her arms as she picked him up. "Yoogeun. How's my favorite grandson? How much did you miss Halmoni?"

Yoogeun showed her. "This much."

"Wow. That's a lot!"

Jessica brought his bag to her mother. "Here's his bag for the night. It has everything he might need for the night."

Her mother smiled. "Jess, it's alright. He'll be alright with me. Cause Grandma always is prepared for her grandson."

Jessica laughed. "Arasso. I need to get going." She kissed her mother's cheek and then looked to Yoogeun.

"Yoogeun, are you going to be good for Halmoni?"

Yoogeun nodded. "Mm."

"Good boy." She kissed him goodbye. "Annyeong!"

Yoogeun waved back to her. "Annyeong!"

Jessica went back off to her house.

 

It was around 7:57pm.

Jessica glanced in the mirror once more, staring at how she looked in her outfit.

She hadn't dressed this fancy for a long time, since her ex-boyfriend.

She frowned at the moment, remembering all the times she had with him.

The star-gazing nights, the romantic sunsets, the breezy afternoons, and the brisk mornings.

It all came back to her.

"Oh. How amazing you were. But now you're just a memory."

She then heard the doorbell ring.

She jumped a bit at the sound of a ringing bell.

Jessica carefully walked towards the front door, opening it and finding the handsome, young man standing there with a bouquet of white carnations in hand. "Jinki, these are beautiful."

He handed them to her, with a smile as he felt his cheeks blush. "Just like you."

Jessica giggled and smelt them with its spicy and sweet scent.

Onew felt himself blushing super hard so he looked away for a moment.

Gosh. She's so darn pretty. Jinki, try not to look like an idiot.

Jessica finished admiring the carnations' beautiful look and scent and said, "Let me put these inside."

Onew nodded and watched her as she disappeared into the hall. Aigoo. How am I going to survive a whole night with her?

Onew stopped daydreaming as he heard Jessica's heels click away coming back towards him.

"Are you ready to go?" He asked her politely.

Jessica nodded with a smile.

Onew held his arm out as a true gentleman. "Then shall we go, my lady?"

Jessica felt herself blushing. "Neh." She took his arm like a lady, holding onto her clutch.

He led her out the door, guiding her to his car.

Of course, like a gentleman, he opened the car door for her and then closed the door after she got in.

He hopped into the driver's seat, starting the car.

Jessica looked at him. "So where are we going?"

"You'll just have to wait and find out, Cutie."

Jessica giggled. "Arasso. But now you made me so anxious." She pouted at him, showing him her aegyo.

Onew looked away with a smile, beginning to drive on the road to avoid falling for her aegyo. "Your aegyo won't work on me."

Onew actually had different thoughts. Ahh! She's killing me! She looks like Yoogeun, who is absolutely an aegyo prince.

Her and him drove for around a half an hour, arriving in front of a restaurant.

They parked the car and then Onew led Jessica to the front entrance.

"We have reservations for Lee Jinki," Onew politely said to the head at the front entrance stand.

The lady looked over the charts and then smiled. "Ah. Neh. Right here. Lee Jinki at 8:30pm. This man will take you to your table." She gestured towards a gentleman that stood next to the podium with menus at hand.

He simply stated, "This way, Sir." He turned to walk off.

Onew and Jessica followed him as ordered.

The gentleman stepped inside a small room with a table setting for two ready for them. "I hope you enjoy your meal."

Onew walked Jessica over to her seat and opened the chair for her to sit.

Jessica sat down, scooting her in as Onew scooted the chair closer to the table.

Onew sat down across from her, finding her eyes glancing around.

Jessica looked at him, "So you used Jinki now?"

"For formal reasons."

"Understandable. Should I just call you Jinki now?"

Onew smiled. "I prefer Onew. But you can call me whatever you like."

Jessica blushed, making her cheeks noticably rosy, and it wasn't just the blush color.

As they waited for the meal to be served, they talked for the moment.

Jessica stared at Onew. "You know what?"

Onew looked at her curiously. "Wae?"

She smiled. "Yoogeun missed you."

He was shocked to hear that. He couldn't believe that a child that didn't belong to him, missed him. Actually missed him.

"Jinjja?"

"Neh. You're really becoming his appa."

"I am, aren't I?"

"Neh. Like I've said before, Yoogeun never had a father figure. He never knew his father."

"I'm just wondering, but whatever happened to Yoogeun's biological father?"

Jessica's eyes became vacant. She had words, but only tears could answer that question.
