Listen: It's All Lies - B.A.P.

“Good morning! Your DJ for this morning is back! How was the start of your day? Wake up now and feel the morning vibes!” A sweet voice was heard from the radio as soon as Suho turned it on. He skidded to the kitchen counter and poured some cereal and milk to a bowl. A small smile crept up on his face.

A groan was heard when Suho sat on one of the chairs, “Hyung, you’re still listening to her radio show? Come on.” Chanyeol stretched his arms as he just woke up. He opened the fridge and took a carton of milk. “Seriously, just when will you stop listening to her crappy radio show?”

Suho eyed him, “It’s not crappy! Come on, just her voice will send you to heaven early in the morning.”

“I thought she sent you to hell when avoided you years ago.” Chanyeol sipped on his milk. Suho fell silent. In some ways, he knew that Chanyeol was right. Chanyeol sighed and glanced behind Suho, “Especially when you got her.” He nudged at the front door. Suho looked behind him and saw Taeyeon.

She smiled at him, “Good morning!” She greeted him and walked towards the kitchen. She sat across Suho as Chanyeol shook his head at Suho before leaving the two alone.

Taeyeon started telling him random stories. Suho glanced at the radio that has been ignored since Taeyeon arrived. He sighed but paid attention to what Taeyeon was telling him. She had always been there for him. In fact, people could consider them dating. However, even if Suho knew how nice of a person Taeyeon is, he still couldn’t forget the person he loved the most—Seohyun, who’s currently a part-time DJ on a radio show.

“Earth to Suho, hey.” Taeyeon waved her hands in front of Suho’s face. He blinked twice before realizing he spaced out just thinking about Seohyun.

“Oh, I’m sorry.” He forced a chuckle.

“I was saying I got this from your mailbox outside.” Taeyeon handed him an envelope. “Tell me if it’s a good new or not.” She batted her eyelashes.

Suho tore the seal of the white envelop. His eyes lit up when he read the content. He looked up at Taeyeon, “I got accepted. Work will start tomorrow night.”

Taeyeon cutely clapped her hands, “Congratulations!” She threw her arms around Suho and let go after a few seconds. “But I’m still wondering why you chose that network...” She pouted. “Anyway, I’ll head to the office now. I’ll just call you.” She hopped off the high-chair before leaving.

Suho sighed to himself. Why did he choose that radio network? It’s because that’s where Seohyun was working.

Back in high school, Seohyun and Suho were close friends. However, Suho was part of the normal high school students together with Chanyeol and others. Seohyun and her circle of friends were those who are popular in school. This became a huge hindrance for them to continue their friendship.

There was a time when Seohyun was being teased by her friends...

“Well, what can we do? Prom night’s approaching! Our maknae here rejected all the campus heartthrobs because she’s waiting for a loser to ask her to be his date!” Yuri teased making Yoona, Sooyoung and Tiffany giggle.

“Come on, you just rejected Kyuhyun. What the hell?!” Tiffany said while checking her newly polished nails.

Seohyun hissed, “Just stop, okay? It’s none of your business.” Seohyun sighed, “I’m not a romantic person to wait for someone forever. It’s just that I have no plans going to the prom with Kyuhyun.”

Sooyoung shook her head, “More like you like someone else.”

Yoona nodded in agreement, “How about we make a bet?”

“A bet? A bet that is!” Yuri clapped her hands in excitement.

Seohyun looked down. She can always play along with her friends but when it comes to Suho, she wouldn’t.

“If Suho asks you to prom, the four of us loses.” Yoona said. “But, if he doesn’t, that’s going to be on you and—“

“You’d have to ask Suho to dance with you on the first love song during the prom!” Yuri giddily added.

“What?!” Seohyun’s eyes bulged out.

“We’ll look forward to prom night!” Sooyoung mocked, almost singing.

“Don’t you guys realize it’s not only me that will be humiliated by asking him to dance with me?” Seohyun complained. “What do you think the guys will see him as? A coward? Lame? Guys, no. I’m not doing this bet.” Seohyun went to the other table to get her things.

“Girl, that’s the point.” Tiffany rolled her eyes. Seohyun just ignored them as they threw more conditions on the bet. She just walked out of the secluded room.

Seohyun felt sad that her friends never appreciated her friendship with Suho. Because of this, she always had to secretly meet Suho every after class. Because if she’ll meet and talk to Suho at school, her friends would bully Suho. She wanted this to stop that’s why both of them agreed to just meet after classes.

“Hey.” She greeted Suho. He was already on the coffee shop while reading a book. He looked up at her and smiled.

“Oh, you’re there.” He said while glancing back down to the book he was reading. Seohyun just sat across him and looked around.

“Why in a coffee shop all of a sudden?” Seohyun asked. Whenever they hangout, they usually watch movie or just walk around the park. Suho smiled and looked at her.

“I just wanted to see you. That’s why I asked you to come.” Suho said. Seohyun almost blushed but then he added, “I’m waiting for Taeyeon to arrive, I’m going to ask her to be my prom date.”

Seohyun was taken aback. For being this close with Suho, she had always believed that they shared the same feelings. But in the end, she finally understood that it was just a one-sided love. She realized that Suho saw her as a friend in return. He only treasured their friendship.

Seohyun looked away, her tears gleamed in her eyes and she tried avoiding Suho from seeing them.

“You think she’ll accept?” Suho asked.

Seohyun faked a smile, “Of course. Who would reject someone like you?” her tears were already playing behind her eyes. So she decided to stand to and leave, “I hope she would. I have to leave now. Got some works to finish.” She patted Suho’s back before leaving.

“A-are you sure? I was supposed to treat you a coffee.” Suho pouted.

“Save that treat for Taeyeon.” Seohyun smiled and left. As soon as she was outside the coffee shop, tears streamed down her cheeks.

She dialled Yoona’s number who connected the call to Tiffany, Sooyoung and Yuri. “What’s... are you crying?!” Tiffany asked.

“No, silly.” Seohyun lied but her sobs were audible.

“Lies. Lies. Lies.” Sooyoung said. “What is it? Did your puppy die or did you fail our exam in Math or what?!”

“I’m accepting the bet.” Seohyun said making everyone on the joint call silent. “I will do it.”

There was pause in a matter of seconds. Until Yoona cleared , “Okay, then. That’s good. We’ll see the results—“

“I’m going to ask him to dance.” Seohyun said. But her friends were actually just playing on her for the bet. They all hoped that Suho would ask her to be his prom date. They did not expect Seohyun to lose on the bet. Yoona, Yuri, Sooyoung and Tiffany couldn’t say anything. “Anyway, I’m going to pick up my dress for the prom. I’ll just see you guys on that night.”

The prom night came. Everyone’s dressed elegantly.

Though Seohyun felt bad about it, as soon as the first love song was played. She headed towards Suho. Suho was with Taeyeon that time.

“I know this would be stupid.” Seohyun said blocking their way to the dance floor. “I’m just going to ask you, Suho...”

Suho smiled innocently and glanced at Taeyeon, “Sure, what is it?”

Suho had to stop reminiscing. That night was one of the worst nights he had. That night, Seohyun asked him if he likes Taeyeon—right in front of Taeyeon. Honestly, Suho only saw Taeyeon as a friend. But in order not to offend Taeyeon, his answer was ‘Of course, who wouldn’t like her?’

Seohyun obviously did not do the bet. She left the party right after asking Suho that question.

He regretted it in the end. Seohyun became distant from him. They stopped seeing each other every after class. He was a coward. He treasured their friendship so much because he didn’t want Seohyun to be awkward around him once he admits that he likes her more than a friend. He kept all his feelings for a long, long time. But because he’s too coward, even their friendship wasn’t saved.

Years had passed. The only way for Suho to reach or get in touch with her was by listening to her radio show every morning. It had been a routine for Suho. Chanyeol would always remark him as a hopeless romantic.

“A new DJ?” Seohyun asked the manager of the radio station. He nodded at her.

“He’s going to cover late night shows. It would be training for him before we put him on your morning show. He came from the same high school as you, I bet you know him.” Shindong said.

The mention of this brought one person to Seohyun’s mind… It could be Suho. She was afraid her guess could be right.

“Oh, I see.” Seohyun meekly nodded. There was a knock on the door.  “I’ll go get it.” Seohyun said as she headed towards the door.

Her heart almost skipped a beat when she saw a familiar face before her. They stared at each other for a few seconds before Shindong broke in.

“Oh, Kim Joonmyun-shi!” Shindong put an arm over Seohyun. “Welcome, welcome! By the way, this is Seo Joo Hyun!” Seohyun awkwardly smiled.

“Yes, yes. I know her.” Suho said. Seohyun’s eyes widened. She wasn’t expecting that Suho will say this.

“Really? That’s good.” Shindong said. “Joohyun-ah, maybe you can teach him some technical matters. And don’t forget to drop my by office to hand me your papers.” He said before leaving the two. It was very awkward, good thing Suho cleared his throat.

“So, how are you?” He asked.

“G-good. I’m doing well.” Seohyun looked away. “How about you?”

“I’m better now.” Suho flashed her a smile. But Seohyun just continued fixing some documents. “It seems that you’re very busy.”

“Not really. Today’s my last day of work. I’m just fixing my things. What to throw and leave behind…” She continued sorting some papers.

“Leave?”

Seohyun paused and looked at him. “So they didn’t inform you…”

“Inform me what?”

“Suho-shi—“

“Drop the formality, Seohyun. We were friends before.”

Seohyun blinked twice, “Right. We were.” Then she looked down at the papers on her hand. “You’re going to be trained through a late night radio show. After a week or two, or maybe a month, you’ll be taking my place in my morning show.”

“I—I don’t understand.”

“Of course, you don’t.” Seohyun sighed. “You’re not listening to my radio show. I’m not surprised. I just announced yesterday that this morning would be the last airing of the show.”

“But I just came here and—“

“Suho, let’s get to the point.” Seohyun interrupted him. “You came here to work. It’s not about me. So who cares if I leave now or not?” Suho gazed at her. She almost softened. “Anyway, I have to leave now and catch my flight. I shouldn’t be running late. You can ask for assistance from the other staffs.”

Suho held her wrist, “But I do. I care.”

Seohyun sighed, “Suho, you’re a DJ now. You’d have to know how to lie to please the listeners. I prefer you’d be lying right now as a practice.”

“No… no.” Suho shook his head. “You think I’d believe you this time? You said it yourself. A DJ lies. And you are one, yourself.”

“I still have to leave.” Seohyun turned to twist the knob open but Suho held her back again.

“I was a coward before. I couldn’t tell you how I really feel. I listen to your show every morning, that’s a fact. I missed you.” Suho said. But Seohyun left the room and he was left chasing after her. “Seohyun! Just believe me, please!”

Seohyun stopped on her tracks when she saw Taeyeon from a distance. Her heart cringed. She stopped walking and faced Suho who was chasing her.

She shook her head, “Everything is a lie. Those are just words you said, Mr. DJ.” Suho then saw Taeyeon approaching from a few feet away from them.

“I’m not lying, Seohyun. If it’s about Taeyeon—“

“Seohyun-shi!” Taeyeon tapped Seohyun from behind. “It’s nice to see you here!” Suho looked down, shaking his head.

“Y-yes, it’s nice to see you.” Seohyun greeted back.

“I heard you’re leaving?” Taeyeon asked.

Seohyun nodded, “I am.”

“Why so sudden? I thought you could lend a hand to Suho since he’s a new dj here.” Taeyeon nudged at Suho.

“I-I’m getting married in the States.” Seohyun said. She glanced at Suho whose eyes widened in surprise. “Actually, I’m running late for my flight. It’s nice to see you, both of you.” Seohyun forced a smile.

She walked towards the exit.

Taeyeon walked towards Suho, "I thought it'd be nice to visit you-"

But he stopped her. “I’m sorry, Taeyeon.” Without any hesitation, he ran after Seohyun. He was lucky she was still outside the building.

“Seohyun!” Suho called out. Slowly, Seohyun faced him. “You’re lying, right? You’re not going to marry anyone else. Right? Say, yes. I’ll forgive you for lying.” He held her arms, slightly shaking her. But Seohyun couldn’t look at him.

“I’m sorry, Suho. I’m sorry.” A tear escaped from her eyes. “I’m really getting married.”

Suho’s shoulder slumped in defeat. “Back in high school, when you asked me if I liked Taeyeon…" He wiped her tears. "Seohyun, look at me.” He lifted her chin. “Even a high school student can lie. Everything was a lie. Those are just words I said, Ms. DJ. I lied to you. It’s all lies.” He kept on saying.

Seohyun slowly removed Suho’s hands from her shoulders. “But I’m not lying this time, I’m getting married.”

This is so heartbreaking.
How it could change a lot if they declared their loves years ago and not too scared/ afraid to confess it.
Anyway, this is an open ending, right?
