Three Broken Hearts
“So this is it? This is what I did whenever you cried?” Kyuhyun asked the girl in front of him who was (If it’s possible) inhaling the strawberry ice cream in front of her as fast as she could
They were at the ice cream café nearby Nana’s school
“Ckckck… look at that” Kyuhyun shook his head while watching the hungry creature sitting in front of him, “I wonder how you stayed that small when you’re eating like this” he said looking at two empty bowls tucked neatly in front of her
Hearing what Kyuhyun said, Nana stopped for a while… she grinned…
“What?” Kyuhyun asked her
“Usually oppa have to force me to eat, but now you’re telling me that I’m eating too much” she said
“Ck…. I’m sure doesn’t know what healthy eating back then…” he said looking at the ice cream stain all over
“Ck… you’re such a baby” he said again and took one of the tissues and helped her to wipe …
“Don’t move!” he said when she struggled to get back to her ice cream
“Aigooooo… is this your boyfriend?” she heard someone talking behind her…
Ackh! Those girls from the class earlier…
Kyuhyun frowned looking at a group of girls that now standing so close to their table… “Who are you guys?” he said coldly
“Are you her boyfriend?” one of them said
Kyuhyun’s anger boiled up… how dare they were speaking banmal (Informal) to him, who is clearly years older….
“YAH! Watch your language” he hissed
“Ahjussi! You haven’t answer our questions” another girl said
“WHAT??? AHJUSSI?” Kyuhyun was in shock, he put his hand at the back of his head to reduce the pressure
“Yeah, ahjussi! Are you her boyfriend?” said the girls, didn’t seem to care that Kyuhyun was furious with them
“That can’t be… he’s so old… I don’t think that’s her boyfriend” another girl said
“Uhmm.. that’s true” another voice was heard
What? Old??? These girls have no manner! Kyuhyun was getting angrier by the minute… He’s may be 24, but he’s not old!
“May be we should check his name? Anyone remember his name?” they were talking in their own group… completely ignoring the flushed face Kyuhyun
“Are you Kyuhyun, ahjussi?” another girl asked suddenly
Kyuhyun was surprise that they know his name, Do I know them from before the accident?
“You are, right?” one of the asked again
Kyuhyun finally nodded, “How do you guys know my name? Do I know you from somewhere?” he asked
The girls shook their head but now looked visibly happy… “So he is her boyfriend” they said
“Na-yah! I didn’t know that you’re into older guys” one of them smiled at her
Nana could only hide her face… She was so embarrassed… not to her friend, but to Kyuhyun… how she’s going to explain all of these to him?
“Ahjussi, thank you for the information…. Please continue your date” they said and bowed before him, before fleeing to the other side of the café
“Yah! I’m not an ahjusii… I’m still 24!!” he yelled, though no one seemed to listen to him
“Ck….. How disrespectful, kids these days!” he said, clearly upset
While Nana was still focus on her ice cream, hoping and praying that Kyuhyun will be too preoccupied with the word “ahjusi” and didn’t remember the word “boyfriend”
As God answering her prayer, Kyuhyun asked, “But why did they thought I’m your boyfriend? And they said that we’re dating?”
Sigh! “A…. I… I don’t know… I… I think because we don’t look like sibling?” she offered the most logical reason
“But how come they even know my name?” he asked again… Kyuhyun is a genius, to think that she could fool him… is… a bit nonsense
“I… I think you misheard them… I think they said “Kwee-hyun” (ear), they commented on your big ears” she said, praying that somehow, just somehow… Kyuhyun would believe her
“Whattttt?” Kyuhyun was shocked to hear that… he unconsciously rubbed his ears, “My ears are not big” he said, obviously hurt by the comment… however, quick to realize that she just wanted to divert the subject
“Well, if you don’t want to tell me that’s fine” he finally said which Nana found really odd… Kyuhyun wasn’t someone who gave up so easily… but again, maybe this new Kyuhyun is not as determined as the old one?
She sure knew that she was wrong when she heard the next sentence, “Well, I can just ask those girls, right?” he said and rose from his chair
“Oppa….” she caught his hand that instant, her eyes were looking at him, pleading…
“So you will tell me what happened, right?” Kyuhyun asked her before sitting back down
Defeated, she nodded reluctantly…
And here they are, back in the car with her munching her fifth cups of strawberry ice cream while telling him the story… she doesn’t want to risk that her friends might overheard them… so she chose to tell the story in private…
“So you’re saying you pretended to have a boyfriend so that they’ll leave you alone?” Kyuhyun asked her to sum up her story
Nana nodded in between slurping her ice cream
Kyuhyun shook his head, “I can’t believe that those girls are Yunho’s fans…” he said, “Girls these days don’t have a good taste” he added, “Or a high standard”
“You’re just mad because they called you an Ahjussi” Nana slipped it out
Kyuhyun felt embarrassed, “Yah! I’m still young… I’m not an ahjussi yet!!! Do you know that I’m very popular in the office? Lots of female workers in the office always secretly glancing at me” he said
“Yeah, right” Nana said
“I’m telling you the truth! You can ask Donghae hyung! I’m not interested with high school girls… they are so immature and I’m not a e!” he said
Hearing what Kyuhyun said, Nana felt offended, she raised her face from her ice cream bowl… “Not all high school girls act like that! Some of them are very mature!” she said
Looking at her with mouth full of ice cream stains, Kyuhyun couldn’t help but to chuckle, “Yeah, some of them indeed are very mature” he said while helping her to wipe
“I’m serious!” Nana felt like Kyuhyun treated her like a five year old again
“I know… I know…” he said softly

When they arrived at home, their dad’s car was parked in front of the house…
“Appa is already home?” Nana said, it’s very unusual for her dad to be home before night
Kyuhyun shrugged his shoulders, “May be because he went to the office early?” he said… he found that as much as he’s drawn to Nana…. He became less and less interested in his dad… he doesn’t really care about him as much as he cares about his dongsheng… he doesn’t know why… he doesn’t know whether their relationship had been like that since before… or he just simply changed…
They went inside the house….
“Oh, that’s him!” they heard his father said
“Kyuhyunieeeeeee…” Kyuhyun heard when a familiar figure jumped at him and gave him a tight hug
“Sooyoung?” He couldn’t believe his eyes…. Sooyoung was there, in Korea… in front of him…
“Yah! I didn’t know that you’re this tall… you’re actually taller than me?” Sooyoung … “All this time you were sitting in a wheelchair or using the crutches, I thought that you’re short!” she added
“No I’m not!” he said and a familiar blushed showed up on his cheeks whenever she
Nana froze behind him… who is that? Why oppa smiled so brightly at her? Why she hugged him so tightly? Why was oppa blushing at her? Who is that lady? AND why did she called him Kyuhyuniee??????
“Kyuhyun-ah, is this your dongsheng?” Sooyoung asked when her sight fell on Nana who stood awkwardly behind him
Kyuhyun nodded, “Na-yah, this is the nurse who used to take care of me in Japan… her name is Choi Sooyoung… and this is my sister Cho Nana” Kyuhyun said introducing the two girls
Upon hearing that Sooyoung is the person who took care of Kyuhyun for months and that she’s someone she should be thanked for… Nana immediately light up… she bowed to her… “Onnie… thank you so much for taking care of Kyuhyun oppa… It’s really nice to finally meet you!” she said brightly
“Aigooo… your sister is so cute and nice… unlike her oppa” Sooyoung said
“Ck…” Kyuhyun pouted, “By the way, what are you doing here in Seoul?” he asked rudely
Sooyoung smiled, she’s used to the rude side of Kyuhyun. “Your father contacted me this morning and said that you need an immediate assistant… So I came here as soon as possible… but it seems that you’re doing fine… You can walk just fine now…” she said confusedly and looked back at Mr. Cho who was still sitting on the sofa
“I asked Sooyoung to come to assist you if you need anything… and to take care of you” he explained
“But Aboji, I’m completely fine” Kyuhyun said, disagreed… he’s sick and tired of being treated like a patient… he feels fine now…
“Then just take it as Sooyoung taking a break from her job” Mr.Cho said again
“Did you dislike me that much?” Sooyoung
“Ck… do what you want” Kyuhyun said and went to his room on the second floor
“Sooyoung will live with us in the mean time, she will use the empty room next to yours. Can you show her the room?” Mr.Cho said to his youngest daughter
Nana only nodded, she showed Sooyoung the way excitedly to the second floor.
Mr. Cho looked at them and frowned… he could only hope that things will turn out the way he wanted it to be

The next morning….
“Sooyoung-ah, thank you for helping me to prepare the breakfast” Mrs.Lee said
“It’s okay Ommoni, you guys are kind enough to let me stay here” Sooyoung said
“But you’re helping us taking care of Kyuhyun… this is nothing compared to what you had done” Mr.Cho said
All three kids finally came down to have breakfast…
Kyuhyun’s eyes light up when he saw his plate… Sooyoung’s homemade scrambled egg
“Kyuhyunie, do you like your breakfast?” Sooyoung asked him
Kyuhyun nodded in between inhaling his breakfast… When he was in the hospital, he was so tired of the hospital food… Sooyoung’s scrambled eggs are one thing that he always craved for…
Nana observed her oppa who looked like he had not been eating for days… “That’s weird, oppa didn’t really like eggs” she said
Donghae nodded, “He’s not an egg person… it’s weird what amnesia could do to you” he said while also looking amused by the view
“But this scrambled egg indeed different Sooyoung-ah! You’re a good cook” Donghae added after tasting the food
Sooyoung could only giggled when she saw how cute those three siblings are
“Kyuhyun-ah, you can take Sooyoung around the city today… I’m giving you a day off” Mr. Cho suddenly said
“Sooyoung-ah, what did you do to my aboji? He was never this kind to anyone!” Donghae
Kyuhyun only nodded, “I’ll take her after I drop off Na-yah at school” he said
“No need for that… I can drop her at school with Mr. Kim” his dad said
“A….” Kyuhyun was going to say something; however, he got cut off… “Take Sooyoung to see the morning museum… if you’re too late it will be full” his dad said
At that, Kyuhyun could only nod.. Unknowingly to him, Nana was feeling disappointed beside him… she is very grateful and thankful to Sooyoung, however, she could feel that her heart doesn’t feel at ease… she took a deep breath and let it slide…
Donghae who saw it immediately said, “I don’t have any meeting today… I can drop Na-yah off” he said
Donghae thought that he made Nana felt better, however, she felt even more disappointed… The old Kyuhyun would fight to take her to school… but as she waited for him to say something, he didn’t…
Kyuhyun clenched on his chopstick tightly.. wanted to say something… however, he couldn’t… what is he going to say? Donghae hyung, you can take Sooyoung to the museum, and I will take Na-yah to school? That would sound weird and suspicious….
As they were on their way to school, Donghae could sense a grim aura coming from the seat next to him…. He chuckled, “Yah! Do you hate me that much? You don’t like it that your Donghae oppa take you to school?” he said
Nana who realized that she’s not being fair to Donghae, regretted her childish behavior… “I’m sorry oppa….” she said and kissed Donghae’s right cheek lightly, she knows that will melt Donghae’s heart
As she could have guessed before, Donghae smiled again…
“Do you think Sooyoung onnie is pretty?” she asked him
“Uhm.. I can’t say that she’s ugly” Donghae answered, “She’s tall, small face, skinny, long legs, a really good cook….” He went on and on to list Sooyoung’s good quality when he felt a punch on his right arms and laughed
“I’m serious….” Nana pouted
“Are you jealous??? Jealous that someone is closed to your number one oppa?” he again, “That’s why I told you! If I’m your number one oppa, you won’t have to worry at all… I’m not as popular as he is” he said jokingly
“You always loved to tease me!” she said clearly annoyed by it
Donghae smiled, “Don’t worry about it!” he said before letting her off at the school’s gate
But things are easier to be said than done… Nana couldn’t concentrate at all that day… Everything seemed to pass by in a blur… she couldn’t concentrate on one thing that the teachers said, or when Yunho asked her what was wrong with Kyuhyun the day before, she only apologized to him and continued to be in daze… She might never realize it, but Kyuhyun took over everything from her… her mind and body only focus on him alone…
It’s not that she doesn’t trust Kyuhyun… but this is an amnesia Kyuhyun… he doesn’t remember her as his girlfriend… let alone remember that he had fallen for her and that he loved her… she’s afraid that he might ended up falling in love with another girl… Donghae or anyone might not understand what was she worried about, because they don’t know that they were a couple… and the fact that she couldn’t even share this problem with anyone, let alone to Kyuhyun, whose she usually rented her anger to, really frustrated her
And true to her fear, when she was waiting for Kyuhyun after the school’s over… she couldn’t find him… instead, she found Mr.Kim waiting for her…
“Mr. Kyuhyun is taking Miss Sooyoung to a concert” what the old driver told her when she asked about her oppa
Dissapointed? Fear? Sad? Her mix emotions disturbed her… she has to do something before it became too late… But did she overreact? This was just merely a day… Things surely will come back to normal once Sooyoung onnie back to Japan, right?

A week later…
But things were not back to normal yet… Nana missed Kyuhyun too much… a week has passed and Kyuhyun spent most of his free time with Sooyoung… Nana only saw him a couple times at breakfast… he went to show Sooyoung around Seoul… Isn’t Sooyoung onnie grew up in Korea… she’s only been gone for at the most 5-6 years only… what difference could Seoul become in those short period of time?
Donghae didn’t help either… he’s gone most of the time… with meetings and lots of things that come for being both the President and Vice President of UPI… It’s not like she could tell Donghae either that she was indeed jealous or that she wanted her man back…
Kyuhyun maybe intentionally made a distance with Nana… sometimes he missed her too… it’s incredible how he became to feel attached to her even though they’ve only been together for a short time… Maybe there were so many familiar and warmth feeling that he felt whenever he was with her… However, he knew that it has to stop… He made a promise to himself that the now him is just too dangerous to be with her alone… One day he was lusting over her, secretly kissed her in her sleep… another day, he was jealous of other guys and ended up hurting her in the process… He felt that if he spent more time apart from her, he could be back to his old self… not the one in Nana’s mind, but his old cold self whenever he was with Sooyoung…
It would be a lie if Kyuhyun said that he’s not attracted to his own sister… and the same thing goes with Sooyoung… Kyuhyun knows that he likes both Nana and Sooyoung… for many different reasons…
With Nana, he felt warm, welcome, wanted… he felt attracted to her… every little thing she does for some odd reason attracts him… Kyuhyun knows that Nana likes him too… he could sense it… although at this point, he’s not sure if because he is her oppa or due to something else… he knows that he doesn’t need to prove himself in front of her… because she’s already think so highly of him… in front of her, everything he does are good, he’s a hero… he felt like even though he’s a homeless, a thief or a killer, she would still be there rooting for him with all of her strength… however, Kyuhyun hated the version of him when he was with her… Unlike the Kyuhyun in Nana’s imagination, he wasn’t strong, respectable and kinds person…. In front of Nana, he couldn’t control his own emotion, he became vulnerable and weak… he doesn’t know who to lean on… and one thing he certain of is that he doesn’t want to be a e… Kyuhyun can’t help but to think what if one day he disappoint her? What if one day he crushed this perfect image she builds for him? It scares him….
With Sooyoung on the other hand, Kyuhyun can be his cold self, he would never felt vulnerable… He wore a mask all this time… and he is sure that Sooyoung wouldn’t be able to pass through his defense…. Though, Sooyoung had seen him on his worst state, he knew that she won’t leave him… In front of Sooyoung, he could be mean, grouchy, selfish…. he doesn’t have to maintain any image in front of her… With her, he could hide behind his cold mask…
“Kyuhyunie…. What are you thinking about?” Sooyoung asked him, they were watching a movie when Kyuhyun didn’t even laugh while everyone in the theater were laughing
“Huh?” he got startled when she called him
“I asked, what were you thinking about?” she repeated the question
“Nothing” he said, reassured her and moved his gaze to the big screen
However, even then, he lost in his own thought again…
“YAH! Are you okay?” Sooyoung asked him when they exited the cinema
Kyuhyun nodded to answer…
“But you don’t seems okay” she said insisted
Kyuhyun only shrugged his shoulders…
A pair of arms wrapped around him from the back… “Kyuhyunie… you can tell me if you have any problem… you know that, right?” she said, burying her face to his back
Kyuhyun somehow felt comfortable… he couldn’t help but comparing himself when he’s with Sooyoung and Nana… With Sooyoung, he could really act like how he wants…
“I know” he said softly and smiled faintly….

Kyuhyun and Sooyoung arrived home pretty late, however, Kyuhyun was still in daze... He was quite the whole trip home, claimed that he was listening to Sooyoung.. While he was actually thinking about a particular young lady.. He doesn't feel that it's fair, even so, he couldn't help but to compare her with Sooyoung... In his defense instead of comparing them, he was only comparing himself when he was with them... How he reacts? His feelings? Their warmth?
"Yah! Kyuhyunie, why are you always lost in your own mind... You have a lady with you!" Sooyoung said and smacked him on the head. Without him realizing, they were in front of Sooyoung's room already.
"Yah! Choi Sooyoung! Why you always smack my head??? Just so you know, only you and Donghae hyung that likes to hit my head.. Other people wouldn't dare to do it!" And with that, the infamous cute pout from Cho Kyuhyun resurfaced
Sooyoung could only chuckle, "Your cute! Kyuhyunieeee... " she said while now squishing Kyuhyun's cheek, "Just look at it as I'm someone special who can smack your head" she added
Kyuhyun blushed when he heard the word 'special', well he wasn't sure if he was blushing or it was just an effect of Sooyoung's deadly claws. "You ARE special, Sooyoung-ah" he mumbled while blushing again. Sooyoung is indeed a special person for him.. She's the first person he opened up to... She never gave up when everyone else just labeled him a brat and a meanie... Sooyoung had always comfort him.. And he would forever in debt for his recovery to her...
"Aigooooo, you're blushing.... Our Kyuhyunie is so cuteeee" she said again
"I'm not... It's because you pinched my cheeks, remember?" He said and looked away from her
"Aigoooo" she said again and cares Kyuhyun's cheeks softly with her thumbs... Something that always calm Kyuhyun down in the past...
Kyuhyun's face leaned closer to her... Closing the distant between them bit by bit...
When their faces inches apart, Kyuhyun closed his eyes...
"Oppa..." someone said and they got startled
Kyuhyun pulled his face from Sooyoung that instant and saw his sister looking at them in front of her room
