Late nights
Pleasant Imagines, Jinjoo"Look here please!"
"How was Taipei?"
"How was the concert?"
"Please tell us how you feel!"
Waves of reporters shot their questions at IVE who has just landed back in Korea. Though the flashes were overwhelming, they kept their distance from the artists who were exhausted after the two-hour flight.
Exiting the airport, they bid goodbye to the journalists and entered the white van.
"I don't think I can last till Friday." Rei plunges into the back seat, holding onto the back of her neck. She might've regretted taking a nap that only causes her to be drowsy. "I'm going to sleep the moment we reach."
Jiwon squeezes next to her. "Sleep now. Use my shoulder." She brings Rei closer, letting Leeseo sit with them.
The rest of the members managed to fit a single van—different from their usual arrangement since it was late in the night.
Wonyoung takes off her hoodie and turns to Gaeul. "Unnie, do you have lip balm?" The older girl fetches one from her purse and hands it to her. "Thank you." Flights are dry.
While moisturising her lips, she glances at Yujin who has been on her phone from the moment the van doors closed. The girl was smiling, light reflecting off her face.
"What is it?" She asks out of curiosity.
Yujin turns to her. "Hm?"
"Why are you smiling like that?" She returns the lip balm to Gaeul who peeked from the back.
"Why else? There's only one person who could make her smile like this after our hectic schedules." She snorts, leaning back into her seat.
"Minju unnie?" Wonyoung got answered with a nod from Yujin. "She's still up? At 2 am? Why?"
"I don't know." Yujin waits for a reply from the said girl.
Yujin fails to keep her smile to herself, still getting the butterflies after five years. Wonyoung didn't bother asking and decided to take a short nap.
The girl was beyond exhausted. But the thought of seeing Minju kept her awake. A white lie could really help her.
Yujin pockets her phone, toes wiggling out of excitement. She looks around the van and realises they were all knocked out. A rare sight for her. Usually, the first thing they do is check their phones for updates but that wasn't what she was seeing.
"They must be tired." She concludes and asks the manager to turn off all the lights.
...
Reaching their dormitory, literal zombies were seen stepping out of the van. The manager hurriedly helps them with their bags.
"As usual, good job for today." He voiced his gratitude, appreciating their hard work that isn't going to end so soon. "Make sure to rest and don't be late tomorrow."
The girls walked but Leeseo felt something missing. She turns around to see Yujin talking to the manager. "Unnie, you're not coming?"
Yujin sees the younger one waiting. "You guys go ahead, I have something to do."
Gaeul takes Leeseo's wrist and brings her along. "Don't ask. You won't get it. I can't believe she's still asking to see her when Yujin's so tired..." Their voices soften as they entered the lift lobby.
Yujin thanks her manager for today out of habit as he opens the car door.
"Don't get caught. Make sure to rest. I don't want things to happen." He earns a nod from Yujin who was already waving for him to go.
When he left, she takes out her phone to call Minju. But a tap on her shoulder stops her. She turns around and lets her eyes take in the person she has been dying to see. Minju was a foot away from her rather than a few thousand miles.
Without a word said, she pulls the older girl in and wraps her arms around her. She misses Minju more than her own bed. Yujin shoves her face into her shoulder, tightening the hug. "Oh, you smell so good." She inhales deeply as the scent of baby lotion enters her system.
"I just showered."
"I haven't," Yujin mumbles into her shoulder, using a second to absorb the warmth into her soul. Someone has been using her baby lotion. She only leaned back so she could look at the face of her girlfriend, wondering if anything had changed after a mere week. "It's still you."
"Of course it's still me. Do you have another girlfriend?"
Yujin shakes her head and smiles. Her presence was enough to make her year. "You're only getting prettier each day." She stares into those orbs that seemed to glisten for her.
Yujin cups her face and examines every inch of Minju. The latter was wearing all black despite Yujin telling her not to during the night. She hums. "Beautiful," she said. "You're way too perfect. I'm so lucky." She tilts her head, watching Minju's eyebrow go up.
"Did you eat something wrong? What's with all the compliments?" Minju still blushes, feeling those chilly hands on her cheeks.
Yujin's smile had no intention of going away. "I just, really missed this face of yours. I've seen so many faces the past week but I only look forward to seeing yours."
"Your fans are going to kill you if they heard that." Minju gently nudges her stomach, feeling the cool breeze inviting between them.
"They won't if they know it's you." Yujin lets go of her face and intertwines their hands. "Do you know how many Where's Minju? Do you still meet Minju? questions I got wherever I go?" She brings the girl to walk.
Minju was a little surprised. "They ask you that?"
Yujin hums positively. "They never fail to ask."
"Then what do you say?" Minju lightly swung their hands. She loves their usual stroll at the most unholy hours of the night.
Yujin cups the side of and whispers, "Here." She then points at where her heart lies, earning an amused look from the girl. "You don't believe me?"
"As if you did that."
"Watch the videos and you'll see. I always do that." Yujin received a light slap on the shoulder from the brunette. "What have you been doing the whole week?" They do text but Minju keeps it to a minimum since the latter was too busy to reply.
Yujin always makes sure to send one message, telling her she'll be away from her phone.
"Nothing."
"Nothing?"
"Just the same thing. Lessons." She looks at Yujin and remembers something. "I did something new."
"You're in a new drama?"
"That too but I learnt tutting." Minju's eyes beam, wanting to tell her all about it. "At first I found it boring. But it's way more fun than I thought. Although it would've been better if you were there. I think you would've made learning it more fun. I didn't know our joints could move like that." She goes on and on, wondering why the latter stopped walking.
"Why?"
"You're in a new drama?"
Minju realised she hasn't told her that either. "We did script reading last week."
A long gasp escaped the younger girl's throat as she covers dramatically. "You're in a new drama?"
"Is it that—"
Yujin starts squealing, forgetting how late in the night it was as she shakes Minju, hugging her out of excitement. She holds onto her shoulder, a wide smile illuminating in the dark. "Really? You're really in one?" It was as if Yujin forgot about being tired with the way her eyes lit up.
"What are you playing? Cameo? Side?" Yujin tries to recall all the different character types Minju has told her about. Her jaw drops when she missed out on the most important one. "Lead?"
"Well..." Minju couldn't stop the anticipation Yujin was showing. "It's a small series." She drags her along to continue walking.
Yujin's gaze stayed on her. "Whatever it is, big or small, as long as you're in it, I'm watching. I'll watch everything." She drew her hand across their front.
The brunette chuckles, shaking her head. "Are you hungry?"
"Now that you ask, I am starving," Yujin said. "The plane food was terrible." Food wasn't the priority for short-distance flights.
"You hate it."
"Very much." The younger girl turns to her. "Unless they have a special menu."
"Wonyoung told me you stole her steak two days ago."
"She told you?"
Minju nods. "She said she's never going to sit next to you ever again."
