The only person I'll listen to
Pleasant Imagines, JinjooA girl in a bathrobe walked down the stairs, ruffling the towel on her head as she looked around the luxurious penthouse she has been staying in for the past year.
"Why does my head hurt?" she mumbled to herself and saw her boyfriend looking up from the couch that could probably fit three families. "What is it?" he asked, standing up as he made his way towards her, getting greeted by an uneasy expression.
Yujin slipped his hand around her neck, using the other to touch her forehead. "Do you want to go to the hospital? You've been feeling drowsy for the past few days." he gently asked, seeing how the girl furrow her eyebrows.
"You, you. You're the one that's keeping me up all night. Passing me your headaches..." Minju lightly smacked his chest, earning soft chuckles from him.
Why is he keeping her up all night? Their story and how they got here in the first place? Well, they met under a circumstance where feelings bloomed within a night.
The man, a Mafia leader, unknowingly fell for her mystic charms that he himself couldn't believe was possible since he goes to his suite almost every day, girl after girl.
That's until Minju arrived. Someone who wanted to know more about him even after knowing what he does for a living. Yujin didn't know he needed someone like that. A girl who cares.
He did seem intimidating to her the first time they met. Being in a foreign, not so foreign place, alone with a tall, unknown man. But Minju being Minju, that enthralled her. That was her job anyway.
"But it's okay as long as you're good." the girl said and brushed her hair back with Yujin pulling her closer. "Mm..." he hummed, examining her face to see subtle eyebags.
"I still think it's better for you to go get checked up," he said, affectionately drawing his thumb across her cheek, knowing how she has been cranky recently. "Go get dressed, I'll send you there."
Yujin nudged her to go up and heard a small sigh from Minju who nodded. "Don't you have work today?" she asked, slowly going up the steps while he headed into the kitchen.
He paused on the spot. "Oh yeah..." Yujin remembered, wondering why his memory has been lagging lately. Maybe it's because there's someone to always remind him of his work schedule.
"I'll go to the hospital myself," Minju said, earning a nod from Yujin. "I'll get Do to send you."
The man took out his phone, calling his secretary. "Yes, Mr Ahn?"
"Get the car ready, I need you to send her to the hospital," he commanded and hung up the phone with his secretary getting to work right away.
Minju got into the back of the car with Secretary Do heading towards the driver's seat. She blew out a breath and looked at the guy who was starting the engine, driving out of the basement.
"Where is he going today?" she asked while the guy timidly glanced through the rear-view mirror. "He's going down to the field, ma'am." he looked forward, avoiding how Minju was giving him a death stare.
If he could admit, his boss's girlfriend intimidates him more than the actual Mafia himself. They say if a man falls in love, no matter how strong or how egoistic he is, the woman behind is always in charge. Yujin turns into a total puppy in front of Minju despite having an appearance of a canine dog that could rip you into pieces.
Minju started smacking his shoulder. "I. Told. You. Not. To. Let. Him. Go. Anymore." he flinched towards the car door, eyes focusing on the road, not wanting to get into an accident because that'll be equivalent to digging his own grave.
"I did try to stop him but he insisted and I couldn't do anything." he softly spoke and heard a sharp sigh coming from Minju.
You may be wondering, why is the Mafia leader going down to settle things on his own when he has a bunch of men who works for him? Yujin doesn't trust people so easily, probably only his secretary and mother.
And yes, he might seem like that big guy who is merciless when it comes to his area of work, but deep down, he hates having his men get injured for the dumbest reasons. The selflessness within him still lingers, which explains why he has many loyal subordinates.
Now that Minju is involved in this life of his, she doesn't like seeing him get hurt when there are many people who are willing to sacrifice for him. But hearing how he's down at the field today, she needs to get ready for whatever that she'll be heading home to.
"We're here." the guy said, halting right outside the hospital's roundabout with bodyguards quickly surrounding the car, ensuring Minju doesn't get hurt from enemies Yujin might have.
That was one of the considerations Minju had when she stepped into this man's life. But if it provides safety and a roof over her head, she was fine.
She got out of the car, obviously attracting the eyes of citizens who were curious upon her arrival, wondering who it was, might be a celebrity of some sort. But, it's just Minju.
Still, her visuals do instinctively lure many. "You guys can wait out here," she politely told the guards who just stared at her, the one in charge coming towards her. "You sure ma'am? You know how we'll get beheaded if anything happens to you."
Minju nodded with a small smile, still trying to get used to this new life of hers. "Yeah. Just wait here. Nothing could possibly happen in a hospital." the guy quickly shook his head, talking to some of his men.
"I'll come with you." he insisted with Minju agreeing anyway.
Minju may have been deemed as a goddess when chanced upon in bedrooms with a figure curated to relieve certain men's desires. People might think she wanted to do this for a living, being a girl to play with just to get money in return. She does have fun, she does. To an extent.
Her childhood was what caused this to happen. Desiring people's attention.
Ever since she was young, she's been in and out of foster homes, being abandoned by her young parents who couldn't afford to look after her.
She lacked that affection from adults, always not speaking up or talking to families who wanted to adopt her. She was a sweet kid, looks like a sweet kid but she doesn't open up quickly with strangers she doesn't know. It hurts. It hurts if you crave love but don't receive any, even worse when you can't.
She was traumatised having to experience people throwing her away. She was afraid those adults would do the same when they come to know her better.
Love for her was, delusional.
It was all in her own imagination to be able to receive love from someone. She never thought how it was possible and that's when she discovered making money using her body.
She perceived that was love. She thought love was when someone wants you, desire you till the point they couldn't take it anymore. Eyes have been laid on her ever since she entered this part of the world.
She was expensive in her line of work.
That's why she did it. That's why she slept with countless men preferably for one night. That way, she wouldn't have to feel what it was like to be thrown away if she's the one leaving first after pleasuring them.
Why wouldn't she do this when she gets everything she wants with people who actually want her instead of forsaken by those who don't?
The doctor came into the room with Minju sitting on the chair in front of the office table, the guard standing right outside the door to give them a little privacy.
Minju softly gulped when she saw the lady sitting down on the swivel chair, examining the document she had in her hands. Her heart slowly raced due to her own suspicions and maybe Google's diagnosis.
She heaved in a breath of air while the doctor took off her glasses and looked at her. "Is it what I think it is?" Minju anticipated an answer. The lady gave her a nod. "How long more do I have?" she asked.
"8 months," she answered and clasped her hands together.
Minju walked out of the doctor's office, immediately having the guard walk after her. "Is everything alright?" he asked while the girl nodded. "You can send me home now and don't tell Yujin what the doctor said. I'll tell him myself," she spoke, knowing that Yujin's men will pass him any news about his beloved girlfriend. The guy gave a quick nod.
She entered the car that was waiting for her outside, heading out of the hospital with several black sedans tailing behind. "Can you drop by the pharmacy for a while? I need to get something." Minju told the secretary who peeked behind.
"I can ask Ms Jung to get them for you, ma'am, what do you need?" she shook her head. "I'll go get it myself. I know she's resting today." Minju thoughtfully spoke, knowing how their housekeeper, or more like her helper, specially allocated for her. Yujin doesn't want her to get uncomfortable around men despite her previous status.
They drove to the nearby trusted pharmacy, a block away from the penthouse. The man parallel parked the car along the road while Minju went in to get her supplies.
She told the pharmacist what she needed, eyeing a few boxes of bandages and antiseptic. Do we still have enough of those? she wondered, asking for those which the lady immediately took for her.
Minju paid for everything and went back into the car, going back to
