Ch. 9

See You Again

[A few months later]

Eunha no longer feels chest pains. Jaehyun and her are still working together for Boss. It was awkward at first, but they came to an agreement of just being friends.

Mr. Lee on the other hand is in the process of finishing up his documentary.

One night, when he is working late, he receives a phone call from Hyojin.

“Hey,” he says.

“Hey, I was cleaning and found one of your favorite shirts in my closet,” she says.

“You can toss it,” Mr. Lee says. “I have plenty of shirts.”

“Alright,” she says.

“Hyojin, thank you for being so understanding. I can’t thank you enough.”

“I can't say that I'm happy with the decision I made,” she answers. “But I do hope you’re happy.”

“Thank you. I’m sorry I was never a good boyfriend to you.”

"Goodbye.”

Hyojin hangs up.

Mr. Lee puts his phone down and continues to work.

Eunha comes out from her bedroom. She looks around for her phone and spots her phone on the coffee table. She walks over to it and stubs her toe on the table. She winces in pain.

Mr. Lee winces in pain. He clutches onto his chest.

“What was that,” he asks himself. “Why did you suddenly hurt?”

Eunha sits on her couch and looks at her toe. “Ouch,” she says. Eunha picks up her phone and heads to her bedroom.

The pain subsides leaving Mr. Lee confused. He finishes his work and heads home.

Sangyeon inserted the ring into her finger.

She cried in joy.

He pulled her in for a hug, and she hugged him back.

“This is the happiest moment of my life,” Sangyeon said.

“Me too,” she replied.

Mr. Lee opens his eyes. His heart is fluttering from the dream. He climbs out of bed and prepares for work.

Eunha is still sleeping peacefully, but that comes to an end when her phone rings. Eunha looks for her phone with her hand. When she finds it, she answers the phone. Eunha places the phone on her cheek and puts her arms inside the blanket.

“Hello,” she asks groggily.

“You’re still asleep,” Jaehyun asks.

“It’s my day off,” Eunha pouts. “Let me sleep.”

Jaehyun chuckles. “Call me when you wake up. I’ll come make you breakfast.”

“Mmm.” She hangs up and throws her phone beside her pillow.

Mr. Lee fixes his tie and checks in the mirror one last time before he leaves the house.

In the office, Mr. Lee is working at his computer when he receives a phone call.

“Everything is completed, sir,” the voice says.

“Thank you,” Mr. Lee says. “Please send me a copy immediately.” He hangs up the phone. He smiles and picks up his cellphone. His heart is racing from nervousness and excitement.

Eunha is in dreamland, but she wakes up when she hears her phone ringing. Eunha groans and answers her phone. She places her phone on her cheek again.

“Jaehyun,” she groans. “I told you to let me sleep.”

“I’m sorry,” Mr. Lee says. “Did I wake you?”

Eunha opens her eyes. “Mr. Lee,” she asks.

“Yes.”

Eunha grabs her phone and sits up.

“No,” Eunha says. “I. Mean.” She stutters. “I’m sorry.”

“I can call back later.”

“No. It’s okay. Why did you call?”

“The documentary is done,” he says. “I have a copy for you. I was wondering if I should mail it to you or if I can come and give it to you. I have something else I want to give you.”

“I’ll come to you,” Eunha says. “Give me about two hours. I’ll be there.”

Eunha is in Mr. Lee’s office. Mr. Lee hands the documentary over to Eunha.

“Thank you,” she says.

“It’s about two hours long,” he says. “All the pictures that you took are in there.”

Eunha smiles. “Sounds good. You must be busy, so I’ll go.”

“Umm. Have you eaten yet?”

Eunha shakes her head. She’s embarrassed to say that she just woke up.

“Let’s go have lunch,” he says.

“Sure.”

Mr. Lee heads out of his office.

Eunha feels her heart racing. She smiles and follows him out.

They enter his car, and Mr. Lee drives away.

“What would you like to eat,” Mr. Lee asks. “All I know is you like pork belly.”

“Anything is fine,” she says.

“Then, how about chicken soup?”

“That sounds fine.”

The two of them sit together in a restaurant.

Eunha waits for Mr. Lee to eat first. Once he does, she picks up her spoon and starts eating.

“Mmm,” Eunha hums.

Mr. Lee smiles. “This is my favorite restaurant. I used to come here with my grandma, but I stopped coming. I recently started to come again.”

“Why did you stop coming?”

“Hyojin didn’t like eating here.”

“Ahh. Well, you can start coming again.”

“I’m glad I can.”

They eat in silence.

Eunha finishes her bowl. She sighs and smiles.

“That was great,” she says.

Mr. Lee looks at her surprised.

“I’ve never seen a lady finish a big bowl of soup before,” he says.

Eunha is suddenly embarrassed.

“But it’s nice to see you eat so heartily,” he says.

She smiles in embarrassment.

“Do you still suffer from chest pain,” he asks.

“No,” she replies. She places her hand on her chest. “The pain stopped like a miracle.”

“That’s good to hear. Since we’re done, let me take you home.”

“No. You have work you need to do. I can take the bus.”

“It’s okay,” he says. “Let me take you home.”

Mr. Lee parks in front of the apartment building Eunha lives in.

“Thank you,” Eunha says. “Sorry for troubling you.”

“You’re no trouble,” he says. “Please don’t apologize.”

Eunha smiles. “Drive back safely.”

She climbs out of the car, and Mr. Lee follows her. He quickly walks over to her side.

“Wait,” he calls.

Eunha turns around.

Mr. Lee reaches into his shirt pocket and pulls out a container of perfume.

“This is for you,” he says.

Eunha stares at the container. Then, Mr. Lee.

“I can’t accept this,” she says.

“It’s okay,” he says. “This is a present.”

“For what?”

“For your hard work. Thank you.”

Eunha accepts the container.

“Thank you,” Eunha says.

“No problem,” he replies.

She awkwardly smiles and starts walking away.

“Ms. Kang,” Mr. Lee calls.

She stops and waits for Mr. Lee to continue. He walks over to her.

“I have something I want to tell you,” Mr. Lee continues.

“Go ahead,” she says.

“Are you busy tomorrow?”

“I have to work,” she replies.

“Oh. What about the next day?”

“Work.”

“How about this weekend?”

“I should be free.”

“Great. Will you go out with me?”

“What?” She looks at him surprised.

“I would really like it if you can go out with me,” he says.

“Umm.”

“You don’t want to?”

“No! I want to.”

Mr. Lee smiles. “I’ll pick you up at nine on Saturday.”

Eunha is in a daze. She nods her head.

“Bye,” he says. He waves to her, and she does the same. Eunha slowly heads to her room.

Mr. Lee watches. He feels his heart racing. He takes a deep breath and heads back to his car.

As Eunha enters her room, she feels her heart race. Suddenly, her phone rings.

“Hello,” she breathes.

“Are you still sleeping,” Jaehyun asks. “It’s two in the afternoon.”

“No. I’m awake.” She is still in a daze.

“What’s wrong? Why do you sound like that?”

“Huh? Oh. Nothing.”

“You said you’d call me,” Jaehyun says.

“I’m sorry. I had to meet Mr. Lee,” she says.

“Oh. About what,” he says.

“He gave me a copy of his documentary.” Reality slowly hits her, and she smiles.

“Eunha,” he says. “What’s wrong? You don’t sound like yourself.”

“Jaehyun, I have a date,” she pauses, “with Mr. Lee on Saturday.”

“What?”

“He just asked me, and I said yes.”

She puts her hand on her beating chest. “I feel like my heart is going to come out of me.”

Jaehyun gasps.

“Jaehyun,” Eunha says. “This feels like a dream.”

“I didn’t know you liked Mr. Lee,” Jaehyun says.

“I didn’t know either, but why do I feel so excited?” She takes a deep breath. “Jaehyun,” Eunha says. “Will you help me pick an outfit for Saturday?”

“Of course!”

“Thank you!”

Saturday comes by quickly. Eunha is awake trying to find an outfit. She runs to the living room wearing a dress.

“How’s this one,” she asks Jaehyun. She does a spin.

He shakes his head. “You’re too inviting,” he says.

“What do you mean?”

“When a man sees a woman wearing a dress or a skirt, they have nothing but dirty thoughts. I’m happy for you, but I still don’t trust Mr. Lee. Put on pants instead.”

“Yeah?”

Eunha changes her clothes. She comes out and shows Jaehyun.

“Perfect,” Jaehyun says. He walks up to Eunha and fixes her hair. “Please be careful,” he tells her. “If anything happens, call me.”

Eunha nods her head.

Jaehyun feels his heart breaking, but he can’t do anything but wish Eunha happiness.

“I feel like I’m sending my little sister on her first date,” Jaehyun says. He tries to hold his tears back.

Eunha smiles. “I’ll be fine, so don’t worry.”

She gives him a hug.

“Thank you, Jaehyun,” Eunha says. You’re always a great help.”

Jaehyun hugs her back.

“You’re welcome,” Jaehyun replies.

Eunha’s phone rings. She breaks the hug and runs over to her phone and picks it up.

“Hello,” she says.

“Hey,” Mr. Lee says. “I’m outside.”

“I’ll be right there.” She hangs up and looks at Jaehyun. “He’s here.”

Jaehyun walks over to Eunha and fixes her hair. “Have fun,” he says.

“Thank you,” she replies happily.

Eunha is sitting on the passenger's side of Mr. Lee’s car. The air between them is awkward. The two’s hearts are beating rapidly, but they try not to show it.

“What do you want to do,” Mr. Lee asks.

“It doesn’t matter,” Eunha replies.

“How about a movie?”

“Sure.”

“Ms. Kang, may I call you Eunha?”

Eunha nods her head. “You may.”

“You may call me Sangyeon.”

“Sangyeon,” she repeats.

At the movie theaters Sangyeon buys them a bucket of popcorn and two drinks. As they watch the movie, the two of them bump hands when they reach into the bucket of popcorn.

“Sorry,” Eunha whispers. She tries to remove her hand, but he grabs her hand. Sangyeon interlocks their fingers together and brings their hands to his lap.

Eunha’s heart starts racing. She blinks rapidly and tries to calm down.

Sangyeon’s heart is also racing, but he tries not to show her.

After the movie, Sangyeon is still holding onto Eunha’s hand. They walk out of the theater.

“What did you think of the movie,” Sangyeon asks.

“Uh.” She can’t answer his question because she couldn’t pay attention. “It was good. What about you?”

He also finds it hard to answer her. “Yeah,” he agrees. “It was good. Are you hungry? Should we go for lunch?”

“That sounds nice.”

After the date is over, Sangyeon takes Eunha home. He walks her to the front of the apartments.

“I had fun today,” he says.

“Me too,” Eunha replies.

“Thank you for coming out today.”

“You’re welcome.”

They awkwardly stand around.

“Can we hang out again soon,” Sangyeon asks.

Eunha nods her head. “Definitely. Thank you for driving me home. I should go in.”

“Of course.”

“Drive back safely.”

Eunha waves goodbye to Sangyeon, and he does the same. Sangyeon makes sure that Eunha enters her building safely before he climbs into his car and drives away. She enters her room and smiles widely. She goes to her room and lies in bed and puts her hand to her beating heart. Eunha’s phone rings, so she picks it up.

“Hey,” she says.

“How did your date go,” Jaehyun asks.

Eunha smiles. “Great,” she replies.

Jaehyun can tell she is happy.

“I’m glad,” he says. “Tell me about it.”

That night, Eunha couldn’t stop talking to Jaehyun about her date, and how happy she is to have experienced it with Sangyeon.
