Six months ago

Not a single tear would be shed on this night, Yena had made sure of it. Every bone in her body ached as if she had been rolled over in a sleeping bag and beaten senseless with a baseball bat. But still, the plentiful night stars outside her hospital room window that night were able to numb some of her pain. It was fascinating really, how timeless and at ease, the constellations hung within the darkened sky above her. Even though the stars on this side of the hemisphere were strange and unfamiliar, it soothed Yena enough where her heart hurt just a little less, and she could withstand the ache from her surgery just a little longer. 

It was at this moment however, thoughts of home rushed through her mind. She thought of the time she spent with all her best friends in their tiny and dusty apartment. She imagined Nayeon’s bright smile, re-lived the feeling of how Mina played with her hair. And then, she reflected with a heavier heart, the girl she had forsaken and put 2000 miles worth of distance from her own self.

Before she had left for the States, Yena had told the girl she loved, that she wouldn’t be returning, and that Chaewon should move on and find somebody else. At first, Chaewon’s eyes were laced in anger, she knew the younger girl was ready to fight such an absurd request...but Chaewon didn’t, more so; she couldn’t.
