Foreword
“You were the only survivor after all your classmates died.” Jungkook pressed on, willing every cell in his body to ignore the younger girl’s approaches. “Busan High School February 2017. Remember that?”
Hwasa’s lips remained sealed. It was Jungkook’s turn to tease. His large hands reached out to grip Hwasa’s chin, tightly and domineering. Hwasa’s blue eyes widened in shock but did not resist against the older detective.
“Come on Miss Ahn. It just happened last year. Don’t tell me you forgot everything?” Jungkook added on, lips tilted into a smirk.
Soon enough, Hwasa slapped away his hands. And with gritted teeth, spat out. “What about it? The Chief Lieutenant closed the case a week after it happened. My friends died and you cops didn’t do jack about it.”
A pause. Hwasa shot a menacing glare at Jungkook. “Why would you want to reopen the case now?”
Jungkook pushed his hands in his pockets. “Someone’s forcing me to. And for the record, I’m no longer a cop.”
Hwasa put two and two together. “A private investigator then?”
The detective nodded. “Something like that.”
The young woman’s face turned stern. “I’ll strike a deal with you. If you want info from me, find the guy selling Moonshine. Then I’ll talk.”
