Chapter 3
PollutedLondon stared at Jaebum, she couldn’t believe it, after looking for him so many times, what is more surprising is the fact that he remembered her! She couldn’t believe it. He told his version of the story and it matched her memory exactly. She now knows he managed to outrun the patrollers. She also found out a lot about him over the simple dinner he prepared of soup and some homemade soda bread. He was born in 94; it means he was only a year or two older than her. He worked in the reforestation area. He has no siblings. And he has 2 moles on his eyelid. That his eyes are sharp but soften warmly when he smiles.
Jaebum had told her to get some sleep. They compromised with her on the bed with his coat and him on the floor with the pillow and blanket. It was at moment like these when she remember that she was not in the elite District, but in the workers district. She turned around and looked at Jaebum sleeping with his back towards her. The bustling sounds around her contrasted the stone silence that normally envelopes the elite District. The noise actually made her too excited to sleep. The next day she woke up alone in the house, she panicked for a moment, how strange and new the house felt without Jaebum in it. She got up and wondered around the house hoping for a note of some sort that he might have left for her. Her search was unfruitful, which didn’t surprise her although it was still disappointing. However her search wasn’t for nothing, she found two plates of food with her name on it, which London actually thought was better than a note actually, she ate the one that looked more like the oats at home, it tasted quite different, not in a bad way, but plain compared to the cream and honey she is used to having at home. After she ate, she didn’t know what to do with herself. Jaebum had asked her to stay in the house, or else ‘I won’t go looking for you when you get lost.’ were his exact words. She lounged on the bed, sat on the table, rolled on the floor, peeped out the window. A washing line waved in the wind and she suddenly had an idea.
“London?”
When silence was the only reply, Jaebum started to worry.
“London! Are you here?”
“Yes…” Came a soft squeak and her face popped out from behind the door.
“What’s
