He jerked up, breathing hard as his heart raced in his chest.
“Jongin?” She murmured, stirring and eyes half-lidded. Chaeyeon looked exhausted, and he probably woke her up just as she was about to fall asleep. Her eyes were swollen, her hair was messy, but she looked goddamned beautiful. “You okay?”
He nodded, collapsing against the pillow, and she snuggled closer, her head against his chest, which she only did when either of them had nightmares. He tried to control his heart rate, and it’s only when her voice filled the air that it worked, “Jongin?”
“Hm?”
“Can you sing for me?”
Jongin’s voice is low as he complied, singing a tune from a ballad that he had heard a few days ago, and his pulse slows to a slow throb. But then he heard the door to the apartment open and he frowned. Kyungsoo was the only other one who had the keys, but he never came in the middle of the night.
“Did you hear that?” He whispered into her hair.
“No,” she murmured back, her ear against her chest. “What did you hear?”
“I heard the apartment door.”
She pulled away, about to get up and he pushed her back down. It was unlikely that it was Kyungsoo. “I’ll be right back.”
He padded out, flicking on the lights to the front of the apartment to find Kyungsoo sheepishly pulling off his shoes. “Hey.”
