My Heart
Spring ScentBona and I were now looking at each other’s eyes as we both pulled apart from our initial kiss. Bona leaned her forehead against mine and I gave her a reassuring smile. Bona had one of her hands cupping my face, the other touching my neck with much care as I slightly tilt my head. She gave me a quick peck on the lips before slowly leaning in for another kiss. Our lips made contact once again making us both close our eyes. Bona started running her hands through my hair and I soon found myself wrapping my arms around her waist as she adjusted herself on top of me without breaking our now fervent kiss. She was now straddling on my lap much to my delight but it was a bit too hard to keep our balance on this small but irreproachable loveseat sofa. As much as we wanted to keep this moment to last a little bit longer, an unexpected knock was heard on the door of Bona’s apartment.
Knock-knock-knock!
“I think I heard a knock on your door, Bona.” I whispered as we both broke free from the kiss.
“Really? I wasn’t really expecting anyone else today.” Bona replied as she began to plant kisses towards my neck.
Knock-knock-knock!
…
“Jiyeonie? You home?”
…
This made Bona sit up and looked at me with a surprised look on her face.
“It’s my roommate, Eunseo! She’s back!”
Bona quickly stood up and looked quite excited but accidentally knocked over our drink on the side table.
“It’s okay, Bona. You go get the door and I’ll clean this up.”
Roommate? I thought Bona had lived alone all this time. I walked towards the kitchen counter to look for some tissues to wipe the spilled latte. Bona proceeded to open the door.
“Néih hóu!”
Nay ho? She’s Chinese? Wait… She somehow pronounced it softer than the usual nǐ hǎo…
“Seongso!!! I miss you so much!”
Seongso!? No way!
“I miss you too, Jiyeonie!”
I was taken aback by what was happening right in front of my eyes. Cheng Xiao was standing in front of Bona’s door with a luggage behind her. Bona hugged Cheng Xiao and was now clinging on to her much to my surprise.
“It’s been a while Seongso! Why didn’t you tell me that you were coming back from China? I could have picked you up at the airport.”
“It’s fine, Jiyeonie. I wanted to surprise you. I actually went by the school campus but you weren’t there so I figured that you might be skipping classes again. I didn’t expect you to have company though. Did I come at a wrong time?”
“Oh no. Not at all Seongso. Come in!”
I couldn’t move. I wanted to run away but my body refused to listen to me. Cheng Xiao was now standing in front of me as Bona helped carry Cheng Xiao’s luggage inside.
“So uhm.. Eunseo this is Cheng Xiao. She’s my roommate. She’s an exchange student from the other class. We started living together around autumn last year but she had to go home last winter to spend time with her family.”
Cheng Xiao extended her hand for a hand shake which I hesitantly took.
“Nice meeting you here, Eunseo.”
Cheng Xiao smiled and tightened her grip on my hand.
“Same here, Cheng Xiao.”
I gave Cheng Xiao an equally awkward smile.
“Do you guys know each other?” Bona asked as she glanced back and forth at us.
“Uhm.. well..”
“Eunseo and I met last year around August while I was still new in the campus. I didn’t really know anyone at that time and I didn’t know how to speak the language. I got lost but then Eunseo found me. She happened to know how to speak Cantonese which was quite helpful as she gave me a quick tour around the campus.”
