The One to Decide

Last Stop

It’s been four days since that Sungjong had talked or seen Myungsoo. Four days since what happened in the music room. He hasn’t gone home and seemed to have skipped school too. Since Myungsoo’s parents got divorced a year ago he had been living alone in their house. His mom accepted the job offer in New York and his dad had always been away working as a pilot off an airline company.

Even Hoya tried helping but it was hard for him since their school schedule differs of that in lower years.

“Have you asked his classmates?” Sungjong asked while they were in the cafeteria eating lunch.

“Yeah, but they have no idea. What about his house?” Hoya asked between bites of his sandwich. “ I asked his classmates but they said they didn’t know”

“Nothing, he hasn’t been home. I’m worried” Sungjong said.

“Don’t be, you know how moody that guy is. He’ll come around. Besides he always does things like this all the time. He may be feeling guilty because he never told us of him leaving.” Hoya pats Sungjong’s head. “Anyway, should we go to that movie this Sunday?”

“Oh that. Sure, I bought another ticket yesterday so the three of us can go but I haven’t seen Myungsoo. He’s not answering my calls and haven’t even texted me back” Sungjong sighed.

“It’s alright; when we see him we’ll punch the daylights out of that guy” Hoya smiled to encourage his dongsaeng.

Sungjong’s POV

Sunday came and I still haven’t seen Myungsoo. When mom asked me why he suddenly stopped coming at our house I couldn’t tell her. It’s not I’m hiding something; I have nothing to tell her. I’m thankful hyung keeps on cheering me up, I know he’s worried too but there’s nothing we can do. Since he confessed to me last week he never mentioned once about it. I haven’t given him a proper reply either.

I couldn’t tell Hoya-hyung what happened at the music room either. Telling him would’ve been no use. Because if he would asked me why I did that, even I don’t know the answer.

Myungsoo’s never been the type of person to tell what he really feels. I thought if I drag it out of him I can finally be able to sort out my feelings. But instead I made things worse, I hurt him and I would probably continue to do so.

End of POV

Hoya and Sungjong met at the train station and they went to the mall together.

“I have something I need to buy, just wait here I’ll be right back” Hoya said as they got into the third floor where the movie theatres are.

“I’ll just at the coffee shop there” Sungjong pointed out. Hoya nodded and left.

Sungjong settled at a two chaired table near the shop’s window. He had been glancing at his phone now and then, it clear that he’s waiting to something to at least happen. Myungsoo hasn’t replied to any of his messages and calls can’t get through either. It’s been a week already and there has been no light coming from myungsoo’s room. No reply, no calls, it’s as though Myungsoo just left and disappeared somewhere. It’s not the first time, but this has been the longest one since.

“Sungjong! What are you doing here?” A familiar cheery voice greeted Sungjong.

“Suzie! How are you? What are you doing here?” Sungjong smiled upon seeing a beautiful woman approaching Sungjong’s chair. She’s Myungsoo’s older cousin and she used to with them as kids until they had to move away. The last time they saw each other was when Minho, Sungjong’s teacher and Suzie’s boyfriend proposed to her. “How’s the wedding plans going on?”

“Oh well” Suzie was smile was bright as the sun as she flaunts her engagement ring.

“So the wedding is on December huh” Sungjong confirmed.

“Yeah, even though we plan to push the wedding for early next for next year so it won’t be hard for Myungsoo, that cousin of mine still insisted not to change the date” Suzie sighed.

“Why would that be hard for Myungsoo?” Sungjong gave a soft chuckled. “Did you change your phone number? I wasn’t able to contact you when I wanted to ask if Myungsoo came over at your house.

“Sure. Ring your phone through mine” Suzie took her phone and gave it to Sungjong, “He came almost a week ago before his flight to new York for his treatment. I think he’ll be coming home tomorrow”

“New York? Treatment?” there was a small thud as the phone fell on the table. “What do you mean?”

“Myungsoo didn’t told you that his treatment was transferred overseas?” Suzie asked.

“Treatment? Why would he need treatment?” Sungjong’s eyebrows knit into confusion. “It’s not like he’s sick in the first place right?”

Suzie covered her lips as she look at Sungjong with a horrified look on her face. “You mean, you didn’t know?”

“Didn’t know what? Jeez is this one of your pranks again” Sungjong tried to laugh but deep inside he wished he hadn’t seen that surprised look followed by a worried expression on Suzie’s face.

“Sungjong, please don’t hate him. I’m so sorry” Suzie said as she left after their conversation.

When Hoya came to look for Sungjong, but the latter was gone. He tried calling but Sungjong’s phone just kept ringing. Hoya tried to send a message and minutes later a reply came through.

“Hyung I’m sorry I have to leave you. I suddenly felt ill and went home”
